presentation of the 125 VAN VAN 2011

widely used in Japan, the Suzuki Van Van finally arrives in France. The idea dates back over 30 years: a simple, reliable, 2-stroke-powered machine with large wheels for comfort and the ability to go anywhere. Yamaha was largely inspired by this idea and, after designing the TW 200 based on the same concept, the manufacturer went on to produce a 125 version, which is as successful as it is today. You'd be forgiven for thinking that Suzuki had copied the TW when in fact the opposite was true... The Japanese market is not our market! So, while the Van Van doesn't offer much in the way of new features, it does take up the same good ideas, namely a fun, pleasant machine that will delight the owner for city and beach rides. This little trail benefits from a slightly livelier single-cylinder engine than the TW, as well as a 6-speed gearbox. In 2007, compliance with anti-pollution standards led the VanVan to swap its carburetor for an injection system. Will this be enough to counter the already well-established Yam?

Having started motorcycling in '71, I'm reminded of my youth, when I had a CB125S, but wasn't attracted by the VanVan, which was already available in 2-stroke.
The large-displacement motorcycle was abandoned because of house construction, so I wanted to keep a cheap and fun 2-wheeler for short trips. Bought new, no worries for 6 years, very reliable.
Comfortable, economical (es, insurance, maintenance), not sought after by thieves, for riding at legal speeds.
I'm very happy with it. It may be replaced by a new bike, a medium-displacement trail bike, but that's not certain...

Cool, timeless look, fun to ride, ideal for great cruising. Yes, speed is limited on roads, as with many 125s... J\'adore avaler les km vallée de chevreuse, ou elle est, en toute modestie, à son aise. Rating : 5/5

nice little bike, well finished.
except: top speed of 110 km/h
is a lie.
count on 80km/h and be careful on roads where cars and trucks are at 90 and over, which is funny when a semi-trailer passes you.
braking a bit tight.

Nice little bike, with its retro styling that retirees will love for exploring the countryside in total peace and quiet, thanks to its good roadholding. The mirrors need a bit of work, though, as they're too short. Rating : 4/5

This trail bike isn't made for speeding, I own one and I enjoy riding it by the sea and in the countryside, its look is charming and its vintage side is trendy. Admittedly, the equipment is rather limited, but you can't go back a few years and have all the equipment of today. Injection is present, fuel consumption is ideal (3 liters), safety devices on the stand exist, in short, vintage modernism = success. Rating : 4/5

I've been driving a Vanvan every day in Paris and the suburbs for the past year (7000Km). I can't imagine a better means of transport, simple, economical and fun to drive. Fuel consumption 3.2L/100k on average. Handling very good and safe: just one rule in the wet: don't brake while turning (or downshift) like on most motorcycles. Rating : 4/5
French rene Model 2013
What a good idea to have rebuilt this bike (with a 4-stroke engine), I'd be tempted to have one if the engine is as pleasant as the first dr's. Ideally, it would be a 200 or 250 displacement. Rating : 4/5

My Van Van dates back to June 2003. I bought it 7 years ago. Currently 33758 on the odometer. Excellent for beginners, low and easy to ride. Check the chain tension when you do a bit of riding, that's its little problem.
Lacks tone on climbs, otherwise a delight in town.

it would be so much more attractive in 200 or 250cc, a rear wheel a little less "sand bike", a seat less uniform ... it would go just as well everywhere, with more punch. Rating : 3/5

I've had a 125 vanvan for 2 years and it won't start, I don't have any contact on the speedo, I've checked the battery and it's fully charged, could someone tell me where this could be coming from? Thank you in advance. Rating : 1/5
Well, we've corrected the problem, and it's true that a van's fuel consumption is closer to 3L than to 5 as initially stated.

We are sorry for this inconvenience, if you notice other problems, please let us know.

Bonne route

Don't be fooled, a 125 van van never consumes 5 liters per hundred; at the very most, 4 liters when driving at full throttle, but normally around 3 liters when driving normally. Not a very reliable planet bike. Rating : 5/5

While it's easy to get the hang of and a safe bike for beginners, handling in city traffic is hampered by the large handlebars and fat tires, and the overly light steering is unstable at very low speeds. Sluggish engine (normal) with a useless 6th gear, decent brakes
One year on, no mechanical problems (thank goodness), but a cheap finish: electrical wires sticking out, paint on the package holder peeling off at the slightest touch, etc. Nothing serious, but a shame for a bike like this. Nothing serious, but a shame for a bike that's all about looks... Still, what a pleasure to park a yellow vanvan in the middle of the grey and black X9s in Parisian parking lots!
I'm leaving the vanvan with no regrets, but it made me want to take my A license, so it's still a good 125!

French PIPOU Model 2003
TB for the loock, ease of use and value for money
You need to change 1 gearbox sprocket at 1st service (smaller), the exhaust (Devils for example) and the particulate filter to get a more responsive, faster bike
I can confirm that a 200/250cm3 (16hp) engine + rear disc brake would be ideal for mixed road/city use

i'm very happy with it, it's 1 cool, supple ride, with 1 superb look, for anyone who wants to get into motorcycling without a big cube license, it's the ideal machine! much better than 1 TW I tested. It's a bit soft (especially when you're breaking it in), but it's not made for nervousness, but rather for the babacool class spirit Rating : 5/5

Super little machine, a few minor adjustments are required
-install a shoe (susuki option)
-change the fork oil to make it firmer
-put a mud flap at the bottom of the mudguard so you don't have to wash it every time you go out
-as for the exhaust, it's true that I do a lot of trail riding and it's always the same surprise when I come across one (silence is king)... . .

Bought in June 2005, I've been riding it all summer on the small country roads of the south-west of France, now totalling 4500km. Quick to get the hang of it, reassuring except in the wet!
For the lack of peach, I quickly removed the pot and installed a crd, which transformed my machine, especially in acceleration and a 600 noise, for the top speed, a little 100km/h cruising. Viva van van!

I've been the happy owner of this little machine for two weeks now, and use it regularly to get to work (50 km AR) and to ride around the Paris region

On the plus side, it's very easy to get to grips with, with a pleasant riding position. The chassis is very nice. It feels like riding an ATV with really big tires. The gearbox is precise and fun in terms of power, especially in 3rd and 4th gear. At this stage, opening the throttle gives a real feeling of pleasure and a semblance of engine torque

On the downside, the engine vibrates a little too much at high revs, and its sound is sometimes curious or even unpleasant (metallic vibration noise). This is a small bike that's very comfortable up to 80-90 km/h. Beyond that, you feel you're pushing it a little hard, and it's also a little difficult to maintain power in 6th gear at around 100 km/h
Finally, the switch to reserve at the tap is a little surprising, as the breakdown is "really" cuttlefish, even though it consumes very little

In conclusion, the assessment remains very positive, the machine is quite original, pretty and very endearing.

Same thing: a little gift for my other half,
but don't tell her, I intend to use it often (;>)
Very easy and cool looking,
1100 tires and scooter height,
it's a real 125
All the mechanics are modern and well-designed, only the look is deliciously retro
As for watts, it's true, it's still a 125, but it's fine for touring
By the way, has anyone tried to "decatalyze" the huge pot and win normally 2 drunks?

I gave this Brelon to my wife and use it occasionally. It's a great little machine, very maneuverable, low-slung, fun, versatile (you can even do a bit of trail riding), reliable and inexpensive. The only regret is that the 13.5 hp are a little weak on the road, and taking 4-lane roads at 100 km/h at full throttle causes a few cold sweats when you have to overtake trucks... Rating : 5/5
