A modern interpretation of an atypical machine from the '80s, La Katananeeds to be sharper. Not really more madness, but a more assertive presence. There's been no shortage of special series recently, with S, Icon, 7584, Jindachi, etc., to put it back in the spotlight.
With the Royal Serie, Suzuki France has gone one step further, enlisting the services of a number of motorcycle preparation specialists. Some of the names chosen to enhance the character of Hamamastu's neo-retro. Who are they?
royal Vintage, a web platform selling customizations from a network of tuners and dealerships.
Speaking of dealerships, Olby Motos, a Suzuki chain in Chartres and a partner in the project, will be responsible for selling the few units that will be produced.
As for the gestation of these machines, Sébastien Lorentz and Olivier Faudière of the Lucky Cat Garage workshop have tackled the task with an almost sober choice of look and parts, while remaining qualitative.
Let's start by embellishing the preparation with parts cut from the mass, such as the high half handlebars, the adjustable rear controls, the steering column nut and the fuel filler flap. Carbon is used for the hull and rear mudguard, chain guard and wheel arch. Don't think of imitation leather or leather for the seat; alcantara is much more tasteful. Ditto for the bolts and nuts: neither low-grade alloy nor steel, but a mix of aluminum, stainless steel and titanium supplied by ProBolt.
Other brands have taken their place on this particular Katana. Rizoma, among others, for the handlebar ends, Lunar mirrors, master cylinder cover and Vision LED indicators. The grips are by Renthal, and the sound system by Yoshimura. The 150 hp 4-cylinder will be more at home with this Japanese appendage, the R11-SQ Black Magic(no relation to the Voxan...).
Keen observers will have noticed the more enveloping shape of the front mudguard. It doesn't come from an accessory maker, but remains part of the family - simply held to ransom by a GSX-S. We end the parts delivery with a special plate holder.
Most of the prepas are exuberant, in form or decorative sheen. By contrast, the Katana Royal Serie appears relatively sober under its Bushido Grey coat with platinum palladium leaves. Hand-painted by Laurence Chatokhine.
Yamaha has its Yard Built models, preparations that metamorphose the original bikes. Suzuki is more coy with this Royal Serie, but also displays a willingness to personalize... to a different extent. Extravagance is not the guiding principle.
Already available for sale, the Suz' can only be purchased in two places: from Olby Motos or on the Royal Vintage platform. Only 10 examples are planned, for 11,000 euros more than the basic Katana.
