This is the story of a Bonneville that didn't want to be one. Of a little rebel who had to comply with the family doctrine, but was eager to change her style as soon as she left the family cottage. The Speed Twin is a teenager wedged between the Bonnie and the Trident, drawing its origins from one and its desire for lightness from the other.

Is it time to fall in line, or to assert its rebellious spirit? The new Speed Twin 900 didn't hesitate for long. All it had to do was watch its big 1200 sibling modernize, and Triumph's answer was "OK". And the more accessible Speed was off to the workshop in no time.

Between two generations, the change isn't obvious. The public must quickly recognize the spirit and physique of the Speed Twin, while sensing the subtle change. The new headlight, the sloping aluminium plates in front of the injection system, the flatter seat, the small rear light, the redesigned fuel tank: all these elements are directly inspired by the 1200, itself revised for 2025.

Where the new 900 clearly shows its difference is in the suspension. The front suspension is much stronger, with a 43 mm inverted fork. A real change of philosophy combined with increased rigidity. The rear shock absorbers are equally lively, gaining a separate reservoir. The components are by Marzocchi and have only one setting, the preload, for the rear. Adjusting this constraint will allow you to appreciate the black finish of the exhausts, as well as the new aluminum swingarm, which is stiffer, lighter and more qualitative.

The Speed Twin's wheels have been redesigned and fitted with Michelin Road Classic tires. The braking system has also evolved. The front caliper is now radial, still 4-piston, but no longer Brembo. A Triumph logo has taken its place on the jaw.

The Speed Twin rider gains a little legroom, a USB-C socket for recharging nomadic devices, and a new speedometer. The previous one retained a certain nostalgic feel with its needle, while indulging in a more contemporary shape. All this is swept away with modern instrumentation, mixing LCD and TFT. Although encased in a round casing, it's easy to guess where this instrument came from - from the 660 Trident, Daytona and Tiger Sport. On a Classic-oriented machine, this choice is both surprising and jarring. In return (and as an option), it opens up access to smartphones, Bluetooth connectivity and interactions such as music control, calls and turn-by-turn navigation.

in the same technological vein, the Speed Twin "9" is now angle-sensitive. By this we mean that the electronics detect inclinations and can thus inform the ABS and traction control to make them reactive when cornering; cornering, as they say. There are still two Driving Modes, Rain and Road, and a cruise control option.

The British have left the engine virtually untouched. The friendly, lively twin sends 65 horsepower into everyday use, but its character and torque, peaking at 8.2 mkg, are more appreciated. On the other hand, the crankcases have been redesigned. It's the kind of engine you don't want to change because you like it so much.

Triumph has been magnanimous on inflation, with a 100-euro increase for this evolution of the 900 Speed Twin. A refresh to enhance functionality and pleasure. With plenty of accessories to season it to your liking.
