presentation of the Bonneville 400 T40 Black 2027
Like every Bonneville, the T40 comes in a Black version. It’s practically a tradition at Triumph to apply this very dark finish to its Bonneville models. Since 2014 and the 865 Bonneville Black, nearly all T100s, T120s, and even the Bobber have been given this “cloak of night.”
It’s not just a color… You’ll find black finishes from every manufacturer and on a wide range of models. But at Triumph, Harley, or Indian, the dark theme extends beyond the bodywork. Let’s take a look at the 400 Bonneville Black: it extends to the rim rims, the exhaust system, the powder-coated engine casings, the handlebars, the foot controls, the mirror stems, the passenger grab bar, and the headlight bezel.
Ultimately, only the levers, the wheel spokes, the Triumph badge, and the fuel injection system covers escape this treatment. But the Black knows how to play with its name and happily breaks away from it with a two-tone fuel tank and a brown seat.
From Black to Nostalgia
“Black” is as much a state of mind as it is a dominant color. Here, the Bonneville T40 becomes a young guy in a black leather jacket. Maybe not tough enough to pick a few fights outside the ACE Café, but confident enough to flirt with the clientele.
Under the hood, it has just 32 chevaux. That’s less than other Triumph models equipped with this single-cylinder engine—and far less than the 400/500 stars of the A2 segment. Not to mention that, at 191 kg, the little Bonnie isn’t exactly light.

But it’s packed with 5 riding modes, traction control, cruise control, cornering ABS, a USB-C port, a beautiful 4-inch color TFT screen for smartphone integration, LEDs everywhere, automatic turn signals, a center stand, a laid-back riding position, and a taillight that flashes intensely during hard braking.
On top of all that, its look, spirit, and retro charm will have done most of the work to win you over. The Bonneville family is finally complete, from college benches to the sophistication of a country estate.
