presentation of the 1200 Bonneville T 120 "1959 Legends Custom Edition" 2022
Triumph has simply flooded its 2022 range with special series. Some fifteen models in all, in tribute to various celebrations. The latest one stands out for something bigger, for a more-than-honorable purpose, both in form and sound. There's more to the unique "Custom 1959 Legends" model than symbols and cymbals.
Is there a guitar brand as essential as Gibson? Would England have the same flavor without Triumph? Rock, leather, decibels, rhythm, strings and rods... These two icons were bound to meet. They wanted to take it a step further, living out the story of an evening on the stage of a 1200 Bonneville created especially for a noble cause: supporting the next Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (D.G.R.).
The work is suave, almost hypnotic. As is often the case, the fuel tank takes the lion's share of the customization. The work is remarkable, with its delicately warm, sweet amber hue. Almost a huge glass of cognac, but above all a reproduction of the "Sunburst" paintwork - that oh-so-exquisite finish that has long adorned the "Les Paul Standard Reissue" guitar. The affiliation goes even further, with the reproduction of a guitar neck in the middle of the tank. Staying a little above the scent, we can make out the laser-engraved Gibson logo on the filler cap.
The two partners have chosen their most legendary models and associated them with an unmissable date. Why 1959? It was during this year, 4 years after Marty's arrival with the DeLorean, that Triumph presented the first Bonneville T 120. The bike followed Johnny Allen's 1956 Bonneville Salt Lake performance. Its additional name refers to its top speed of 120 mph (193 km/h).

The same characteristics are found in the Bonneville's 1200 cc twin, but in a different range, with a more nuanced interpretation. Its 80 hp don't sound violent, but it's the 10.7 mkg of torque and the acceleration rebound that really grab our attention. The connecting rods express their force with depth, conviction and a breath worthy of a Led Zeppelin song. Of course, the "Les Paul" has a much wider range than the Bonnie.
The two stars multiply the winks to each other. Like wedding rings, each has a personalized patch with their respective logos, almost identical. Other badges adorn the bike: the "Triumph Gibson 1959 Legends" label on the front mudguard, tank and airbox covers.
The leather seat is the same color as the Gibson's case, and is embellished with three mediator holders.

In addition to the 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue certificate of authenticity, the "1959 Legends" edition comes with an exclusive certificate signed by Triumph CEO Nick Bloor and Gibson Brands President Cesar Gueikian.
How much would this Gibson Bonneville cost? We're guessing around €20,000. How much would this Gibson Bonneville cost? Perhaps more than a 660 Trident.
But there's no need to talk price. These two rock stars will not be sold, but offered to the best fundraiser associated with the D.G.R 2022. The second prize will be a Thruxton RS, the third a Speed Twin; the Gentlefolk prize will be a 1200 Bobber.
This Bonneville is a beautiful gesture... and a frustrating one too. Elegant and with a story to tell, it deserves a limited series of several hundred examples. The score would transport us far more than the Gold Line...
