Motorcycle specifications Triumph 865 Bonneville édition Paul Smith Live Fast 2006 The Bonneville in pop art
presentation of the 865 Bonneville édition Paul Smith Live Fast 2006
It' s been a long time since Andy Warhol was around... yet you'd think it was he who designed this Bonneville.
Lost. This is one of Paul Smith's creations. This English stylist worked on the Bonnie on numerous occasions: nine examples were colored, painted, customized and posterized - each in a unique style.
This collection was never intended to go beyond the demonstration stage. However, two models decided to escape to the reality of production. Not many, though. Only 50 examples of the "Live Fast" are brought to life.
First with the 360° pulsations of the 67 hp parallel twin. A slightly underpowered engine with a less than sensational character, but efficient and docile. Above it, the fuel tank is as black as soot. If we were to confine ourselves to these two elements, the Bonneville would seem to be a well-behaved machine..
Except that everything changes around the barycentre. We're capsized in the world of Harlequin, with a yellow leather saddle, Lustrucru blue mudguards, orange juice side covers (standard and blood) and chrome everywhere. Shock vibes guaranteed! This patchwork scratches the eyes at first... but you soon realize that it goes down pretty well. Like a non-alcoholic fruit cocktail, you could do with a second round.
And there won't be many rounds. A "Limited Edition xx/50 by Paul Smith" inscription on the back of the tank tells everyone about the exclusivity of this model and its serial number (the xx). Every "Live Fast" Bonneville comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Paul Smith and Triumph boss John Bloor.
For Union Jack enthusiasts, the other version is the "Multi Union", where the tank becomes a patriotic beard.
