presentation of the MT-125 2027
The Yamaha MT-125 remains the star of its segment. It’s been around for nearly 15 years now, and since it intends to stay at the top, it’s getting a facelift.
Its front end has become less angular, more reptilian, and still exudes a sense of otherworldly menace that leaves no one indifferent. The front fender has changed very slightly; its midsection has changed significantly, with remodeled fuel tank scoops that blend seamlessly into the body, a new seat, completely redesigned bodywork around the tank, and redesigned radiator shrouds. The radiator flanks are particularly eye-catching: Yamaha has pulled off a unique aesthetic touch by covering them with translucent secondary panels.
More style and less “Dark”
A fun, flashy approach, but not an innovative one. Buell had gone much further with the semi-transparent, colored fuel tank on the XB-9S X Lightning City Cross. The vibe isn’t quite the same, though: the Yamaha focuses on cosmetic touches, while the American model reveled in provocation.
A small windshield adorns the front of this new version of the MT-125, positioned above and around its “third eye”—a feature it just can’t seem to shake. The turn signals have adopted a new, more tapered shape and have been moved closer to the frame.
The smallest member of the MT family has a new design but retains its original spirit. You can tell at first glance, and it becomes clear once you turn the key in the ignition. That’s because the chassis and engine are identical to the previous model. This includes its 15-horsepower engine with a variable intake system, which improves airflow and responsiveness in the single-cylinder engine. Smooth at low RPMs and more responsive than usual, this little engine boasts the VVA system.
The power-assisted clutch also makes for a smoother left-hand lever and a more stable bike when downshifting like a madman.

Just like in its early days, the MT-125 impresses with its Deltabox-style frame. It’s reminiscent of the R-series sport bikes, except that here it’s made of steel rather than aluminum. The swingarm, on the other hand, is made of aluminum. The 41-mm inverted fork also makes an impression, as does the 140 rear tire. On the other hand, traction control on a bike with this much power… What a sense of humor.
Connected to the Street
The color TFT dashboard will see much more use. The lackluster LCD screen was very welcome replaced by this five-inch display in 2023. Much more user-friendly, it offers three display modes, lets you pair your smartphone, control your music, receive notifications for calls and texts, check the weather, and view turn-by-turn GPS navigation right on the screen. Don’t forget to download the MyRide app to get all of this.
You don’t change a winning team! But you can change up your look to stay on trend—or even to express your own style. The MT-125 proves it once again.
