Motorcycle specifications YamahaYZF 1000 R THUNDERACE 2002 Sport compromis

driven out of the big-sport category by its turbulent R1 sibling, the Thunderace now expresses itself in a niche more suited to its pretensions. First of all, comfort is surprisingly good: the suspension is efficient and enhances the bike's performance while respecting the occupants' backs. Yesterday's sports car is close to today's sport-GT. The driving position is far from radical, making it easy to get to grips with and enjoy its qualities on all types of road. Less nimble than the current canon, it's easier to tame, with flawless roadholding (even on uneven surfaces) and a torquey engine. Full-bodied in the low to mid-range, it delivers fabulous acceleration and top-level performance. It's a pity that the gearbox, which is very well spaced, isn't more pleasant to use. Much less demanding than the R1, it also has a wider range of action; its weight will handicap it somewhat on the track, especially in comparison with its sibling. We regret the lack of protection, but let's not forget that the Thunderace is basically a sports bike. Its conversion to touring is not a choice, but the result of the evolution of the species.

I've just sold my very demanding and turbulent (and without electronic aids!) carbureted 98 R1, which I couldn't ride any more: my hands tingle and my body aches as soon as you try to get into it! Not to mention the perennial humility lessons and handlebars!
So I got myself a Fazer 1000 (which is still a very good bike), but the footpegs that scrape the ground when you're not at the limit of the tire make me tired. And then I remembered that I'd experienced "sport friendliness" with my previous 3 Thunderaces, some time ago. So, BANCO! I remembered, it's decided, I want her
I'll just make an effort not to complain about its heaviness, it's not as agile as the Fazer 1000 and even less so the R1 98. But what 1000cc sports bike can offer 300 km of range when you're on the move (or 240 mini when you're shouting at it)?
A thick seat that's not too hard on the wrists, a 4-legged engine that drinks oil but is so torquey that you forget to grumble about the 5-speed gearbox, and above all, an ability to make you happy and a face that leaves no one indifferent. A very stable and reassuring chassis (even if it's not a gazelle)
To sum up -> I LOVE it Rating : 5/5 Respond to Fazerman

Owned the 1997 model between 2002 and May 2006, red and white. It was my very first bike once I had my driving licence. Sold it after 50000km. It consumed quite a lot of oil, and I always had a can under the seat. It got really hot in town, but came back to life as soon as you got off it. I'm 1.95m tall and I rode without a problem. The creases in the pants became a bit annoying behind the knees over long distances, but I think that's the same on any bike for tall people like me... otherwise it was top-notch, even for novices like me. Today I'm thinking of buying a 1000 cbf for a more comfortable body position. Rating : 4/5 Respond to Nonohtc1973

i've never had any complaints about this bike, which I hope will double this mileage again, with the same form and reliability!
very easy to maintain, with few electronics, economical to ride, only the passenger could complain about the relative comfort
if I had to do it all over again...without hesitation! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Cyrille
Your bike has 149000kms or is it a printing error? Sincerely Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
I'm delighted with this machine
I'm not very tall (1.69m) and my feet are very flat.
The only problem is a 5-speed gearbox, why????
Although the gearbox is very well spaced, we would have liked a 6!
Handling is very good
Misses a watch and a gauge for a gt sport it would have been the top
Not very greedy when driving cool
In short, a very good machine Rating : 5/5 Respond to Olivier
How old is the petrol in your tank and in your carburettors ???
Do you have sparks at your spark plugs?
Did you accidentally press the red engine stop button?
If your fuel line isn't clogged, if your jets aren't clogged, and if you've got spark at your spark plugs, it should start. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
thank you for the information Rating : 5/5 Respond to mickeymassart

Fuel consumption a camel (5l/100)
Performance is far from ridiculous, and looks good too
What versatility!!!!
I'm keeping it
only fault oil consumption and missing 6th gear
Caution on the road

Cheap to maintain, in short, a real winner! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Stéphan
very good sport-GT machine
no vibrations
exemplary stability
aircraft engine: torque and power
56000km
burned 1l of oil in 4000km, which is the only fault
i'll have to do the consumables: air filter, spark plugs, oil change to see if it burns less semi-synthetic 10w40 API SL

Good machine in every respect, reliable, with acceptable comfort for a sports bike (except for the width of the fuel tank, in my opinion, which forces you to spread your legs quite wide).
Noisy and not very pleasant gearbox.
Nothing to criticize, but nothing to glorify either. A reasonable choice rather than a passionate one! Rating : 3/5 Respond to Titi

fabulous roadholding, devilish acceleration, she's a joy to behold. well, she eats oil, so we'll have to find her a flaw

i've just exchanged my thundercat 600 for the thunderace 1000 it's a real head turner, although the thundercat is the top of the 600 powerful flexible and not too tiring on long trips, on my thunderace I would like to put a handlebar higher because yesterday having done 350 km in a row I arrived broken even this morning still broken, by raising the handlebar I think it will be more pleasant apart from it tears, for the oil I would like to know the best to put, and if possible technical views of this bike
see you soon
