JvB-moto celebrates 30 years of the V-Max with the Yard Built "INFRARED"
The legendary Yamaha V-Max celebrates its 30th anniversary, and it doesn't take much to turn 2015 into a very special year. When it was launched in 1985, this generously-sized machine made a big impression on motorcycling circles thanks to its exceptional power.
To mark this special moment and pay tribute to it, Yamaha decided to collaborate with the famous German Yard Built tuner JvB-moto.
Based in Cologne, the designer is an unconditional fan of the V-Max, and admits that it has been the source of his passion for motorcycles since the age of 15, in 1985. Although it was not marketed in Germany at the time due to its excessive power, it immediately inspired Jens vom Brauck. And today, he has the opportunity to express this fervor through a spectacular creation.
For this special preparation, JvB-moto came up with the idea of creating a half-dragster, half-Café Racer concept, while highlighting the machine's raw power. The tuner also wanted to incorporate elements of the original 1985 model, to pay tribute to its already three-decade-long career.
At the front, an aluminum mudguard is superimposed by a carbon fiber headlight - a JvB-moto trademark - and integrated into the fork. Motogadget turn signals tower above the carbon wheel flanges created especially for the occasion. Wristbands add a Café Racer touch, while the rider benefits from an authentic American dragster-inspired tachometer made by Autometer.
A magnificent carbon fuel tank cowling dominates a revisited airbox and electrical circuits, complemented by aluminum scoops borrowed directly from the first V-Max model.

This stunning creation also features an aluminum sub-frame made from stock parts, and a custom aluminum fuel tank located under the seat.
The rear of the machine is not to be outdone, with another emblematic element from the workshop on the other side of the Rhine: a carbon rear unit handcrafted by Jens vom Brauck. A bike this splendid has to sing in tune. Here again, it doesn't disappoint. The exhaust system is modified with a custom 4-in-1 manifold and a raucous-sounding Termignoni silencer.
Last but not least, the paintwork is a thing of beauty. Always keen to pay homage to the history of motorcycles and Yamaha, JvB-moto has chosen retro colors inspired by the 1985 Yamaha GP 500 team colors for added authenticity.
Every aluminum and carbon part of this special Yard Built was designed and crafted by JvB-moto, further enriching the V-Max's long history with the German tuner's highly personal vision.
"Since its appearance on the roads in 1985, Yamaha's V-Max has been, and will remain, an indomitable tourer with dragster-like performance," says Shun Miyazawa, Product Manager at Yamaha Motor Europe."It has quickly become an icon and gathers fans all over the world, both in its standard form and in its customizable version. To stay true to the image of this icon, we have chosen to celebrate 30 years of the V-Max by working with three extremely reputable tuners, to create three special editions of the V-Max that will inspire Yamaha, but also V-Max owners and anyone else who would like to own one. We begin this anniversary year with the model designed by the famous German inventor JvB-moto. We're all big fans of his work, and we think his minimalist industrial style is a perfect match for the V-Max. The result is unmistakable: the Yard Built "INFRARED" pays homage to the V-Max's origins, while giving a glimpse of tomorrow's performance."
This model will not be marketed, but completes Yamaha's YARD BUILT collection.
