Motorcycle specifications Yamaha TY-E 2018 Excited bumps

Roadsters, sportbikes and even trials are going electric. Designed to make the most of the unique advantages associated with electron power, this new TY-E will take part in the 2018 Trials-E FIM Cup, first at the Auron event in France on July 14 and 15 and then in Comblain au Pont, Belgium, on July 21 and 22.

Rider Kenichi Kuroyama - currently engaged in the Japanese championship in the IA Super class - will represent the Yamaha Factory Racing team in 2018. The TY-E is also on display on the Yamaha Motor stand at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show, which kicks off this March 23 at Tokyo Big Sight.

Featuring cutting-edge technologies, the TY-E is a direct offshoot of the Group's "Evolving R&D" program, which enables employees in the Research & Development department to devote 5% of their time to innovative concepts not directly related to their day-to-day tasks.

It is within this framework that Yamaha has focused on developing a test model for competition, striving to overcome the difficulties typical of EV electric vehicles - small, lightweight components, but high performance. The aim: to deliver high torque, a consistent engine character, responsive and easily controllable.

To date, the Trial-E Cup is the only FIM competition that allows electric trial machines to compete. This event, held for the first time in Lourdes (France) on June 24 and 25, 2017 with eleven riders at the start, saw Spaniard Marc Colomer come out on top. In 2018, the FIM Trial-E Cup consists of two rounds. The first in France at Auron (July 14/15) and the second in Belgium at Comblain au Pont (July 20/21).
