presentation of the 1670 MT-01 Kit phase 1 2005
and m..., I had always promised myself not to be, to keep things separate and not get attached. But now I'm in love!
back to the reunion..
i'd already done a trial gallop a few months ago (3 hours), but between showers and wet roads, I hadn't been able to realize the Beast's potential.
Saturday 9 a.m., ready to take possession of the bike, this time for 48 hours. The weather was fine, and I got myself in shape: 1.5 liters of espresso, elbow and knee pads, soccer helmet and baseball bat... No, I'm just kidding!
A little tour of the owner, the monster is equipped with some interesting options: single-seater saddle stamped with the MT 01 logo, real carbon rear shell and, above all, the Phase 1 Kit, the 2 Akrapovic mufflers !!!
I'm rather opposed to this style of transformation, but as far as the mufflers are concerned, we have to admit that both aesthetically and acoustically, the result is spectacular.
As for the seat, my opinion is more mixed: the seat is hard and the thinness of the whole lets the heat of the mechanical elements through.
On the dashboard, the mega rev counter (red zone at 55,000 rpm!) is backlit in pale blue, with a digital display at the bottom. Standard features include tachometers, odometer and 2 trip-masters. As usual in Yamaha production, one of these counts down when the bike is in reserve.
And now we've arrived at the moment we've all been waiting for, the moment when you put your finger on the red button (the starter, you vicious bunch!).

The monster jerks on its kickstand, the unstable idle gives a racing atmosphere, but at the slightest rotation (handle a little hard!) the 1670 cc V2 makes the Akrapovic crackle and your heart rate follows the progression of the rpm counter!
In the saddle, there's no pretence: the weight is there, and the 240 kg dry weight is quite high. You'll need to be very careful when maneuvering at low speeds, especially as the width of the saddle means you'll have to spread your legs.
But all that is swept away as soon as you get going; the magic of the V2's phenomenal torque (150Nm at 3750 rpm) stretches the arms with every acceleration, and the sound of the pots when decelerating is just as enjoyable.
Where the MT 01 would win the vote is that, in addition to being beautiful and powerful (a gain of 6 to 8hp with the Akrapovic + 97hp), it holds the road damn well.
The connection with the R1 can be seen in the radial brake calipers, the suspension and the magnificent reinforced swingarm.
The overall balance of the bike compares favorably with many other bikes, and it can be ridden without too much apprehension, except perhaps for the weight.except perhaps for the weight, which should not be forgotten when braking late, and the breaker, which regularly cuts off over-enthusiastic acceleration.
the MT O1 also brings "corporate" bikers closer together: harleys find themselves in the big V2, roadsters consider it their mother, Italians love its lines, and in the end, everyone recognizes themselves in it.

agr j'ai craque 2500km en 17jours le long course le pied
heavy when stopped, weight forgotten as soon as it's rolling, amazing
a big twin that picks up at 1,500rpm and revs up big time
the big rev counter is superb
but it's expensive
but I think the chain and rear tire will suffer with the weight and torque
conclusion worthy successor to my buell x1
