Sport

sSTTOOPP!!! Stop everything! Drop everything you're doing and take 2 minutes to admire the imprint Yamaha will leave on history. With the new R1, everything has been turned upside down, references shattered, numbers staggering, and beauty fatal. - 180 hp - to tow 172 kg! now there's madness. A 1-liter engine developing as much power as the ZX-12R (the most powerful machine until 2004) to tow a machine almost as light as an SVS 650. Today, Yam presents an all-new R1 - the plastic is close to that of 2002, but everything else is new. Aaahh, this beauty! The great features of the bike that reminded us of the MV-Agusta F4 remain, but the aggressiveness underlines them: the forced air intakes and the subtle R1-R6 look give a wickedly beautiful face. The rear end is sumptuous, with its new LED taillight, and the titanium pots under the seat complete this delightful cocktail. The new, reinforced aluminum die-cast swingarm is inverted (as on the Suzuki TLR), the frame entirely new, as is the new 4-cylinder engine. More compact, it develops 13% more power and revs up to 2,500 rpm. No, I'm not mistaken: it's 2,500 rpm. The Deltabox V frame is narrower, further refining the bike, which loses 2 kilos in the process. The riding position has been revised, as has the passenger's - he really doesn't belong on the folding seat anymore. Like the competition, the brake calipers are radially mounted; we can expect the best from the manufacturer with the tuning forks.

YAMAHA YZF 1000 R1New dashboard with red zone at 13,750 rpm, new wheels, new... new... everything is new and everything is better! A new queen is born!

a stylistic benchmark in the world of Japanese sports bikes, the R1 narrowly missed out on the title of queen of efficiency. This crown, held by the GSX-R 1000, is about to change hands. While the designers seem to have gone to art school to design the bike's dress, the engine-makers have been eating a serious dose of Weetabix every morning. The proof is in the strength of the new mill. Power up to mid-rpm is similar to that of the old version, i.e. copious, but a tone below that of the Suzuki. The latter remains unbeatable in terms of trunk space, but the Yam has the luxury of being more "paunchy" than the CBR 1000 RR and ZX-10R. Then, when it revs up, you enter another dimension. Watts galore, power like a 357 Magnum bullet, and immense pleasure. Sensational, oh yes! But not as sensational as the Kawa. The greens have designed a machine that becomes insane as you approach the red zone; Yam puts out almost as much power, while offering a certain delicacy. The R1 sticks your eyes to the back of your skull, but remains serene. As a result, confidence builds up, and the lap times are achieved without too much fighting. On the racetrack, the pistarde is no slouch: it blows away the CBR and GSX-R, but fails to beat the furious ZX-10R (source Moto-journal). Good heavens! How could this happen?
It's quite simple. Rossi's new bosses have tried to square the circle. Not only have they created a superb machine, capable of dislodging virtually anything on the track, but they've also made the R1 more user-friendly. Did they mean it?

Yamaha YZF-R1 1000 2004Well, yes - the bike that used to be considered the most exclusive of all Japanese bikes has put some water in its wine. The handlebars are moved up a little, the steering damper comes as standard... and the bike becomes frighteningly efficient on open roads. Gone are the sticky handlebars of previous generations. Comfort has improved (well, it's still an R1), and wrists suffer less. Granted, the Yam is a little less agile than the Kawa, but the arrival of less disconcerting power limits the risk of a big scare in the corners... especially if you open up like a madman.
Even more beautiful, more powerful, more stable, more comfortable, more sensational... do I need to go on?

i own one from 2005, and i've fitted it with a power commander box, and it really kicks ass. it's a beautiful toy, not to be put in just anyone's hands.
Then I completely customized it with Monster and MoviStar stickers. Personally, I love this bike. People admire it because I customized it so well, and they're amazed when I tell them it's from 2005.

First of all Hi to all I have a small question I have my R1 of year 2004, and my question will be the following arrived at approximately 7 or 8 thousand tour the luminant indicating me the passage of speed light whereas it should light at approximately 12 or 13 thousand tour and thus before bringing it back to the garage I would have liked to have opinions thank you in advance. Rating : 5/5
Hello,

The shiftlight (that little light you mentioned) can be adjusted; no need to take the bike to the garage. Here's the procedure

- Switch the ignition to "OFF
- Press and hold "select"
- Switch the ignition to "ON" and wait a few seconds, then release "select"
- Press "select"
- Press "reset" to select different types of shiftlight
-the light stays on
-light flashes
-the light is deactivated
- Confirm by pressing "select"
- Press "reset" to set the speed at which the light comes on
- Confirm by pressing "select"
- Set the speed at which the indicator goes out by pressing "reset"
- Confirm by pressing "select"
- Set indicator brightness by pressing "reset"
- Confirm by pressing "select"

If after you've carried out the procedure Bestoflooping gave you the shiftlight comes back on at 7 to 8 rpm after a day or two of non-use, it means your battery is starting to die and needs changing. Rating : 3/5

Hello, I've tried what you told me, but the bug is that after the manipulations you indicated, it displays the diagnosis, but then I can't continue the manipulations....
i've read that to unbolt the motorcycle, you need to connect a wire to the battery. Is this necessary for the shift? Well, I'm stuck for the moment... thanks in advance..

Hello, quick question, I've seen on several forums that the 2004 R1 can reach 295kmh max when "bridled". Is it really bridled or is it more a myth than anything else? best regards
benj
Rating : 5/5
Impossible. With 100 hp, the best machines can reach or even slightly exceed 250 km/h.
Beyond that, the laws of aerodynamics dictate that you need plenty of power and good air penetration. With a good cx and a good gear ratio, count on 150 horsepower minimum.

Sublime bike, first-rate performance and a pleasant surprise: fuel consumption is 1.1 l/100 km lower than on the Kawasaki ZX 10 R! But it's still 0.6 s faster from 0 to 100 km/h, which isn't great, but it's good! Rating : 5/5

Opinion from Fred 77
I can confirm because I have one: the 2004 R1 is a pure marvel!!!! She's beautiful and she rides hard!
It's a fighter plane ! I put d akrapovic pots + a power commander + racing filter + akrapovic cata suppressed tube...and it rips !!! Crazy stuff !!!
-it takes 299 km/h in no time (me g took 13 800 rpm in 6°...!!)
-g took 290 km/h at 2 above (still in no time!)
-it lifts in 3° or even 4° without prb on the freeway !!!
-fuel consumption not too bad: about 9 l/100
-it seems reliable..
And another big plus compared with the old R1s: less steering feel (it's more stable) and a smoother gearbox at last...
At last, a beautiful, powerful, reassuring and smooth R1..
We dreamed of it, YAMAHA did it!

Well, Ange91, this new R1 has been completely redesigned from front to rear. Yes, there's a certain family resemblance with the old generation, but the new skirt, the twin headlight snout and the exhaust system aren't different enough for your taste...??? We're talking about a completely different machine!
And even if this R1 is more than "attractive" aesthetically, let's not fool ourselves and turn a blind eye to the competition when it comes to performance. Goodness knows, the GSX-R1000 has always had a much more torquey engine at low and medium revs, and a more user-friendly powerband than the Yam. And when it comes to stability and wheelie balance, the Suzuki has nothing to envy any other bike...not even the new R1

But when it comes to aesthetics, we agree that this is definitely the benchmark!

It's a very good bike, very healthy and terribly powerful, I had the honor of trying it out in Carole (as a passenger but with the honor of the big boss of GMT 94, as a rider) and I still get palpitations (of course when your helmet is at an angle and 30 cm from the ground at 90 kg/h .... it marks. "Look at my knee", I said, and well, I didn't hesitate to do it. All this to say that I dream about it every night and as soon as I have the budget I run out and buy it. Well, I know for old riders you'll think it's stupid, three laps around the circuit is nothing.... But when you've only ever been behind the handlebars of a GPZ 500, that's bound to change. ALLez un V à tous et à toutes!!! Rating : 5/5

I've just bought myself a new 2004 R1, and I'm more than happy with it. It's a real powerhouse, and it's a big change from the 900 Hornet I had before (my 1st bike). I leave the garage where I bought it, open the throttle on a straightaway, lift the yx a bit and I'm already at 230, to get home, blokage meter at 299. it's wonderful, a bomben I recommend it to everyone @+ the bikers Romain Rating : 5/5

so yamaha ripped everything out of this bike, it's a real work of art, as soon as the year is over it should be put in a high security showcase !!!!!!! A motorcycle full of superlatives. Decued a little by the power which remains very usable and therefore seems to be acquired and "not enough" (the real exploitation is something else). The bike puts you to sleep, which is the worst thing, especially when you're riding cool, because a quick glance at the speedometer brings you back to a reality that's no longer legal. It's still a great toy, but should be used sparingly off the track.
