presentation of the R125 World GP 60th Anniversary 2022
It all began in 1955. The year Yamaha produced its first motorcycle. Called the YA-1, it won races in Japan in its very first year.
Seven springs later, exactly 60 years ago, the brand entered the World Speed Championship. This milestone is celebrated on the R125's fairing, with its unmistakable "Speed Block" color scheme. An interesting anecdote: it was also in 1962 that Yamaha bikes were imported into France by Sonauto.
The " Speed Block" color scheme draws much of its identity from these famous stylized rectangles. Strongly associated with Yamaha, they have been used in numerous combinations and projections on the manufacturer's sports models. For tribute versions, it always returns to its original shape. On the R125 60th WGP Anniversary, it tears red through the bike's immaculate white dress. On the face, a yellow plate hints at the spirit of competition. The rims are gilded in a matte patina, reinforcing the special-series approach. A badge on the tank completes the 125's association with this significant edition.
The 124.7 cm3 single-cylinder engine delivers 15 horsepower and not much torque, but it's the only engine in the range to feature variable valve timing. As for the chassis, we can rely on the Deltabox steel frame, aluminum swingarm, 41 mm inverted fork (non-adjustable) and tires 100 mm wide at the front and 140 mm at the rear - my first 500 had a narrower gumshoe.
