Does that raise any questions? Could it be because of the range?, the charging time, or fear? Too powerful ;)
Alright, let’s be constructive:
- A quiet ride for a Sunday outing—yeah, why not? It’s true that electric bikes have their merits in that regard, but 20,000 bucks for a ride? You’re better off taking a bike or a scooter.
- For commuting to work, it’ll do the trick, right? Ah, there’s the budget... for commuting, a good old 125cc does the job.
- For serious acceleration, there are plenty of great options in the internal combustion engine world, and for four times less on the used market, you can really stretch your budget.
- Maybe the eco-friendly vegan hipster who’s got money and already owns a Tesla, who wants to feel good about himself (without thinking about the little kids digging in sandals in the mines), will shell out over 20,000 bucks to go 100 kilometers, and if he doesn’t have a charging outlet at home, well, he’ll be stuck waiting like an idiot for a long time and will pay more for charging than for 98 octane gas.
Well, he realizes it doesn’t suit him, so he resells it within a year—for 5,000 or 6,000 euros. In two years, how much will he lose? Half the price, maybe more.
Let’s say he keeps it; in 5 years, the battery will start showing signs of wear. How much does a battery for that cost? The price of a brand-new MT07? (And the little kids will still be running around in sandals.)
