J.Juan, founded in 1947, began by specializing in the production of brake cables for bicycles. Eighteen years later, under the new name J.Juan S.A., the brand began to diversify into the motorized two-wheeler segment. In the early days, the company mainly supplied local manufacturers such as Amat, Castells and Masferrer, consolidating its reputation in the sector. Over the decades, J.Juan broadened its field of expertise to become a major player in braking systems, while preserving its Spanish roots.
In 2001, the company inaugurated its new headquarters in Gavà, near Barcelona, and modernized its infrastructure to increase production capacity. Although international expansion soon became a priority with the opening of a site in China, J.Juan remained true to its origins and today maintains three factories in Spain.
A decisive turning point came in 2008, when J.Juan began designing complete braking systems for motorcycles. In addition to the brake cables for which it is renowned, the brand expanded its range to include discs, calipers, master cylinders and levers, meeting the needs of the most demanding manufacturers and motorcyclists. This strategy is reinforced by the acquisition of Braktec, a specialist in braking systems for off-road and trial bikes, and by the creation in 2017 of J.Juan Racing, a division dedicated to competition, launched to mark the company's 50th anniversary.
When one brake specialist buys another... In 2021, J.Juan, valued at 73 million euros, joins the Brembo group, world leader in high-end braking systems. This acquisition will enable J.Juan to benefit from Brembo's technological resources and international reach, while strengthening its competitiveness. For its part, Brembo consolidates its position in the fast-growing medium- and small-displacement motorcycle market. This alliance marks a new stage in the history of the Gavà-based company, which is now part of a global dynamic of innovation and development.
