presentation of the DSR Black Forest Edition 2020
The DSR Black Forest is back. After a first run as a limited series in Zero Motorcycles' 2018 range, the "adventurer" takes up residence in the 2020 range. This DSR with backpacks offers a set of integrated panniers and electric riding provisions. On a single charge, adventure-seekers can take full advantage of the environment, with a range of 262 km in town and 126 km on the freeway. Still not enough to make a combustion-powered Adventure flinch, but it wants to believe... in its own way.
as an option, the DSR can be fitted with the Charge Tank rapid charger (which charges batteries 6 times faster). This charging technology rapidly recharges the battery, providing up to 152 km of range per hour of charging. Riders can also power their bikes using the extensive network of Level II charging stations throughout Europe.
the Zero Motorcycles DSR Black Forest Edition offers a hefty 146 Nm (almost 15 mkg) of torque, capable of propelling the whole package with striking vigor. No clutch or gear changes are required, thanks to Zero's Z-Force direct-drive powertrain. What's more, performance can be customized using Zero's mobile app to suit the needs and experience levels of as many riders as possible.
the model includes a whole range of accessories and options developed for adventure. The Zero Motorcycles DSR Black Forest Edition is equipped with :
- Black aluminum top and side bags
- Touring windscreen
- Touring saddle
- Crankcase cover
- LED auxiliary lights (for off-road use only)
- Headlight covers (for off-road use only)
the manufacturer's approach follows the trend of big machines dreaming of treks, frontiers and adventure. But the utopia is total. How can you travel the world and cover long distances with a machine whose range is limited not by fuel, but by charging stations? With the DSR Black Forest, you can tickle the forest, but don't go too big.

i'll try to answer your questions as clearly as possible.
The DSR does weigh 190kg, including around 80kg for the battery (for 14.4kWh).
this is not such a heavy weight for a trail bike with such high acceleration performance.
The range is good (for an electric two-wheeler) and obviously depends on how you ride.
Personally, on the road in the Beaujolais region, I have a range of between 150 and 180kms.
In the mountains, customers with the PowerTank and a 2017 DS (16.3kWh) came to Val d'Isère on a charge from Annemasse.
Then on the way down you regenerate a (small) part of what you've spent.
but it's true that many of my customers use their car mainly for commuting. Personally, I did an electric road rally in 10/2017 (the France Electrique Tour) and the daily stages were between 320 and 400kms.
One of my customers is taking part in the green expedition: electric rally in Argentina in April 2018. 5000kms from south to north along route 40 in 20 days.
