presentation of the Europa 125 1992
In the early 1990s, Aprilia and Cagiva were locked in fierce competition across the board in the 125cc class: sport bikes, trail bikes, custom bikes—every style was represented and offered in various versions.
Sporty roadsters were no exception. But while Cagiva had gone all-in on sportiness by simply marketing a Mito stripped of its fairing, Aprilia had chosen a slightly different path.
The Europa, although built on the general architecture of the Futura sport bike, was designed as a less exclusive motorcycle.
Rider comfort (and, incidentally, that of the passenger) was prioritized with a rather thick two-up seat, and the handlebars were positioned slightly higher. These modifications allowed for a more comfortable riding position that was less tiring on the forearms, although at high speeds, this benefit was significantly diminished by the lack of fairing.
