presentation of the 1200 Ace of diamonds 2019
Ariel had its heyday in motorcycling at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, the name is best known for its namesake sports car brand, the Atom. A small sports car capable of atomizing just about anything on the road, as long as it's twisty.
It's the same name, but not the same gearbox... It's a story worth digging up to discover the twists and turns of time.
For several years now, the British brand has been offering the Ace, a large, high-end roadster. It's the kind of rugged good looks and refinement that resurgent brands know how to produce. A limited edition of 10 will be produced in 2019, the Ace of diamonds.
The 1200 Ace makes a strong impression with its huge CNC frame, whose design is reminiscent of that of the car's cousin. The difference with this 'Diamonds' model lies mainly in the construction of the frame. The machining process has been revised to reduce the number of lines and increase rigidity, and the factory has taken the opportunity to revise the column angle to 23.5°.
Not happy with this angle? No problem, you can ask for it to be changed before signing the cheque, just like the color of the trim and many other customizations. Each Ace of Diamonds is made to order, and each one is identified by a numbered plate.
The Ariel is powered by the 4-cylinder V of the Honda 1200 VFR. This gives it an impressive 173 horsepower and over 13 mkg of torque. The swingarm is also taken from the Sport-GT, allowing the roadster to benefit from a single-sided swingarm and universal joint transmission. The Ace benefits from other Honda equipment, such as 43mm upside-down forks, 320mm discs and 6-piston brake calipers. On a more personal note, it enjoys a TFT instrument panel, a minimalist, selfish seat (a passenger seat can be added as an option) and the privilege of being hand-built. For a starting price of £19,982, almost reasonable for the positioning of this machine. After that, when it comes to customization, the price becomes a very relative notion.
