presentation of the 1000 TESI 2D 2006
rarely has the motorcycle industry produced such a stunning machine. Is there an even more astonishing machine? The Münch Mammut? No, not even close. Possibly theY2K helicopter turbine or the Dodge Tomahawk? And even then, it's mainly their crazy engines that struck people's minds. The Tesi is a different kind of motorcycle, whose predecessors can be counted on the fingers of one hand: the 1991 Tesi 1D 1ere du nom, and the Yamaha 1000 GTS.
what makes these models so strikingly different is their telescopic forkless front end. As with the 1D, the 2005 Tesi uses a completely mind-boggling swingarm, steering hub and linkage system. More complicated, you die! We'll be coming back to this system in greater depth in the next Bimota Tesi 1D review.
Technical shock, visual shock. Unlike its predecessor, the 2D rides without its fairing. A provocative nudity where the eye scrutinizes and puzzles over every element. The heart of the Bimota is the desmodromic twin from the Ducati 1000 SS (N.R.: the first Tesi from '91 had 2 versions of the desmoquattro from the Ducati 851, with 103 and 113 hp). The mechanics are barely concealed behind the garter belt that acts as the frame, i.e. 2 heavily perforated aluminum plates where the 2 swingarms are anchored. A carbon appendix protrudes from the chest, bringing fresh air to the airbox made of the same material. Under-seat exhaust? Too commonplace. And since mass centering is a Tesi priority, the muffler is located under the engine, as it is on Buell models.
Another interesting feature is the size of the swingarm. Generously dimensioned, too much even for the power announced. Imagine: almost a MotoGP part to support less than 90 grunts... Strange, unless the Rimini factory is planning to upgrade the Tesi with a more powerful engine.
No more details, just the whole package. The vision of the Tesi is that of a particularly complex machine. A veritable gas factory whose notion of beauty remains highly subjective. But is that all we need to remember about this Bimota? Take a closer look at the technical specifications, and in particular the weight. It's enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. 149 kg with full tanks! Exceptional. Barely the weight of a trail bike, and 30 kg lighter than the lightest Japanese sports bike.

Now, what does this highly technical front end do for the machine? Well... The Tesi swings easily from one angle to another, but the rider doesn't have enough feel for what's going on under the straps. The front end doesn't communicate enough information about the work it's doing. Not ideal for a sports bike. So, this big mess isn't as effective as we'd hoped.
don't think of the Bimota Tesi 2D as a track bike, but rather as a creation coupled with an exercise in style. Originality takes precedence, technique intrigues and is aimed at enthusiasts of new solutions. Given the price, it's fair to ask questions. In fact, €46,000 is not the price of the bike, but of exclusivity.
