presentation of the 1100 DB5 S 2010
tasting the privileges of Bimota almost always means indulging in the pleasures of esthetes, the wealthy (or unreasonable enthusiasts) and the selfish. This remains the case with the DB5, whether standard or R... but fortunately for the ladies, the factory is presenting a Biposto version of its 100% Italian sports car.
Well, biposto is a big word. Given the look of the foam pouf, your passenger will certainly be delighted to share a gallop on this Bimota, but not necessarily for long.
As for the driver, he or she is free to enjoy this DB5 with its reworked engine. The Rimini-based firm has abandoned the 1000 cc of the Ducati SS in favor of the new 1100 of the Mulitstrada and Hypermotard. More watts, more torque, more trunk space, for a machine that's still as compact as ever, but which has gained a few kilos in history.
Suspension components also change: Öhlins equipment is swapped for a 50 mm-diameter Marzocchi inverted fork and an Extreme Tech shock absorber.
It doesn't benefit from the ultra-light rims of the R version, but gets the same brakes, with 320 mm discs pinched by Brembo radials.
At the outset, I spoke of a pleasure reserved for the wealthy - perhaps I wrote too quickly! With this Biposto version, the DB5 becomes almost affordable, its price dropping below the 20,000 euro mark.
