presentation of the DB8 ORONERO 2016
As usual, the DB8 Oronero carries the prestige of the Bimota brand. It's out of the question to make an accessible, efficient and inexpensive sports car. Here, we take the exclusivity and high standards of the Italian sports car up a notch. Already tempting with its quality materials and the power of its 169-hp Ducati twin, the DB8 descends into indecent privilege in this carbon version.
similar to the standard DB8, the Oronero version offers meticulous, expensive and ethereal technical solutions. The frame sums it all up: a set of carved aluminum plates linked to carbon-fiber spars. Sublime. Same solutions for the swingarm. As for the fairing and fuel tank, they too are made of this light, resistant fiber. On this hypersport, everything is designed for the exceptional: either carbon, or machined parts, or one hell of a lot of gear. What's the most stunning thing about it? On the OZ forged-aluminum wheels, the Öhlins inverted fork, the full-digital instrument panel with integrated GPS, or simply its sculptural silhouette?
taken from the Ducati 1198, the twin is coached by Bimota's recalibrated fuel injection. On its release, the DB8 Oronero carried a Walbro unit, replaced since 2015 by an Athena. In 2016, power figures are revised: from 169, engine output drops to 162 hp at 9250 rpm. On the other hand, torque increases from 12.9 to 13.1 mkg, still at 8000 rpm. More than the engine, it's the attention paid to the chassis that will transcend the driving experience. With this manna of carbon and aluminum, the Bimota DB8 Oronero weighs just 159 kilos dry, 5 kilos less than its predecessor, the DB7 Oronero. The Extreme Tech rear shock absorber is replaced by an Öhlins unit. Fearsome rigidity and high-flying peripherals take the owner into another dimension of the sport. Few machines will be produced, for a price that is obviously stifling.
