presentation of the M 1000 RS 2027
You're surprised, aren't you?!?
Do you think the motorcycle in the illustration isn’t the right one? Do you see an M 1000 R? It’s not a mistake—neither in the image nor the name—but a matter of interpretation. We’re going to take a closer look so we can appreciate, understand, and experience this BMW M 1000 RS. Because this roadster embodies a philosophy that stands out: RennSport!
It’s important—a priority, even essential—to clarify what the RS acronym stands for before we go any further. Otherwise, we won’t grasp why this motorcycle is more special than it seems.
For 50 years, these two letters have been associated with ReiseSport—the equivalent of BMW’s Sport-GT, as exemplified by the R 1300 RS and which began with the R 100 RS.
One might reasonably assume that this new member of the M family would be an R 1300 RS with a different frame, the 4-cylinder engine from the S 1000 RR hypersport, and touring-style bodywork……
But not at all, because here, the RS stands for RennSport. And that changes everything. Let’s take a much bigger leap back into the past, this time with the word “Racing” in mind. The DeLorean stops in 1953, when BMW launched the 500 RS 54, its race bike.
Now it makes a little more sense. It’s enough to make your mouth water—the M 1000 RS is actually an even sharper version of the M 1000 R. Or, more simply, a roadster version of the M 1000 RR.
The world’s most powerful roadster
Now, let’s head back to the future. It promises screeching tires and mind-blowing performance. Let’s not waste any time, because the M 1000 RS is battling against itself at every moment and with every bolt. This hyperfighter packs 218 chevaux while weighing just 196 kg!
Look no further—it’s the most powerful roadster on the market. It’s even fiercer than the vast majority of hypersports. Compared to it, a Honda CB 1000 Hornet or a Suzuki GSX-S1000 are mere children’s toys.
To prevent the anti-wheelie system from kicking in constantly, the sprocket has two fewer teeth. That’s enough to boost the top speed a bit without really compromising acceleration; when you’ve got 160 kW under the hood and a redline that hits 15,100 rpm, you can afford to give a Rafale a run for its money.

How do you get 8 ch more than the M 1000 R and 3 kg less weight? As for the power, it’s simple: take the 4-cylinder engine from the sportiest bike in the lineup. As for the weight, BMW has packed it full of carbon fiber from top to bottom. That’s all there is to it, from one end of the bike to the other:
- Wheels
- Spoilers
- Air filter cover
- Front and rear fenders
- Chain guide
- Seat cover
- Tank side panels
- Micro windshield
- Sprocket cover
When it’s not carbon fiber, it’s just as enjoyable—if not more so. Like the brushed aluminum fuel tank, the all-titanium Akrapovic exhaust system, the Alcantara seat with RS embroidery, the blue-anodized M brake calipers from Nissin, the rear loop borrowed from the M 1000 RR, or the various sport-style parts. Like the multi-adjustable footrests, the M levers, and the M Laptrigger GPS system.
It needs a big track and plenty of adrenaline to really shine
So here’s an M 1000 R equipped with the M Competition package and a Superbike-style engine. It’s even more focused on attacking the track with a riding position that tilts the rider further forward. The seat, raised by 20 mm, puts more weight on the front end, ready to carve through every corner on the track.

We won’t list all the onboard electronics here—the scroll would take too long. Instead, let’s focus on the standout features, such as DDC adaptive damping, Pro riding modes, the shifter, controls for traction, wheelie, slide, engine braking, standing start, and hill start, and the 6.5-inch color TFT display with M animations… In fact, it has every possible option. All you can do is add accessories.
The M 1000 RS even has heated grips—as if we needed them with the thrill it’s going to keep pumping through us nonstop…
A madcap ride for a select few
The BMW M 1000 RS will cost an arm and a leg and will be produced only in a limited run: 1,000 units worldwide, with 80 reserved for France. A machine brimming with power and fury, capable of taking on any roadster on the planet. The Streetfighter V4S and the SuperDuke RR Track are going to take this very hard.
