Touring

it began with a sports bike comparable to the CBR 1100 XX (sorry); it continued with the world's most powerful roadster with a surprisingly large face; and now it's confirmed with this big new GT: the new-generation K 1200 base model, with its road-facing 4-cylinder engine and unique chassis, is the impetus for a real BMW revolution. After the S and R, here's the K 1200 GT. A machine dedicated to touring that benefits from BMW's latest technology. The famous chassis with its Duolever front axle (no more telescopic forks), the new Paralever, the ESA handlebar-adjustable suspension system (optional), and its big, powerful engine. In this GT definition, the block has been downsized to 152 hp, a reduction that benefits torque and mill availability: maximum power and torque are obtained 750 and 500 rpm earlier respectively. Compared to the first K 1200 GT, the 2006 version delivers 17% more power and 11% more torque, with 3/4 of the maximum torque available from 3000 rpm. Incidentally, this is the most powerful grand touring machine on the market. This is because the K 1200 GT has to carry more luggage and offer more protection than the S. Hence the new fairing. Hence its new fairing, more massive and significantly less harmonious than theold K GT it replaces. The mechanical and chassis base is the same as the K series - it's the fairing panels, headlamp unit, integrated indicators and windscreen that have changed. Protection seems to have improved, but design-wise, the Honda 800 Pacific Coast is the closest thing to a refrigerator we've seen since.

between 2 generations, the K 1200 GT has gained range (+17%), lightness and payload (19% increase in capacity). The K 1200's standard equipment perfectly meets GT expectations: adjustable seat and handlebars, electric bubble, pannier system, brake pad wear indicator and partially integral ABS are all standard. After that, it's up to you to spice up your K 1200 GT. As BM would say:"BMW Motorrad also has a range of tailor-made options and accessories available to customers." These include heated saddle and grips, high bubble, ESA electronic suspension control, RDC (air pressure control system, scheduled for autumn 2006) and cruise control.... and if that's not enough, here's the full list of options and accessories with their specific features(click here).

French Detomaso Model 2006
I sold my 2006 k1200 without any regrets after 22,000 kms on it in 3 years, after having bought it 1st hand with a complete BM follow-up.
I won't go back over its oft-mentioned general qualities, notably its great versatility.
On the other hand, its reliability isn't worthy of a Prenium bike, and BMW France doesn't deserve to be praised.
ABS box, cardan transmission, fuel pump, speedometer ... a whole host of known faults at prohibitive prices ( 1800 euros for an ABS box!!! )
At BMW, you're welcomed as if you were in a car dealership (I know that the motorcycling spirit has changed, but thank you for the atmosphere), and the prices of servicing reflect this. Bmw is good if you buy a new or used bike with a concrete warranty.
For me, BMW is finished. There are much better and less expensive alternatives.
In the series of defects the gearbox is unpleasant (close to the tractor) the long wheelbase does not facilitate agility, hard clutch control, seat adjustment not terrible ..

Hello, I've just got rid of my K1200GT, a very good bike, a real beast to ride (that's what a BM is for) with 152hp at full throttle, excellent road bike, 80000 km. before an RT, a very good bike, also very easy to handle. I'm moving on to the K1600GT, I hope to be as satisfied. Rating : 5/5
French Alban Model 2006
I wanted to try BMW. It's true that the K12 GT is a good tourer, but it has a lot of electronic problems. It consumes more fuel than my previous bike. And above all, a road bike with a 6-speed gearbox is a real shame. So I'm selling. Rating : 3/5
French rick Model 2006

transponder, brake pad warning light (new) that stays on, mapping, frequent change of
cartography, frequent suitcase

i own since the 25/07/2012 the k 1200 gt and well I am delighted she is easy to handle and comfortable she has sin for 100 hp are defect she is hard to handle at the stop you have to make gaff before I had a ducati 1098 it's great too but madam has a bad back so snif ... snif ...! to return to our sheep it's a good machine and I have already done 4000 km highway and national in a month that good Rating : 4/5
French DeadMan44 Model 2006
I sold my R1200RT after trying out the K1200GT. I do 20,000Km/year and I was looking for a bike that protects like an RT, with RT suitcases and RT handling, but with a real torquey engine!!!! Voila, it's done, it's the K1200GT
I love its noise (it's a bit sad on the RT), its torque, and its geule without the suitcases
I've read about the problems encountered, but BMW has made up for it in the last 1 year with these new models. 1.2% of workshop returns under maintenance the 1st year is less than on the RT :)

Bonjour a tous

I bought 9 months ago a k 1200 gt 2006 17000 kms, I came out of a 1200 gs, 1150 gs adventure, 1150 rt, 1100 rt and before japanese (including a super 1100 zzr) at the start very disappointed, engine, stability at high speed, stability just put the right pressure which was not the case, for the engine, the dealer simply unlocked the handle, it's night and day, it now has 30000 kms and if the seat were more comfortable it would be perfect, great engine, powerful and very torquey from 3500 rpm, extra noise when you rev it up, sufficient protection ( 1.84 m )supper eclairage meme sans le xenon et aucun soucis ( je suis tombé en panne avec les 2 rt precedente) . Bonne route a tous

K 1200 GT, great GT Sportive?
GT certainly, sporty certainly not or you're going to "break everything" without needing to spread yourself all over the tarmac...
Owner of a 2006 model, 39000 Kms, it's for sale. Very good deal, lots of new parts including an axle, an ABS computer, and soon (because at BM it's imperative that the part breaks) a universal joint (obvious given the state of the axle before replacement), a clutch and in my anger I'm forgetting.

i'm generally satisfied with my K1200 GT
very good handling
very good braking, lively engine, too bad you can't take advantage of the freewheeling engine
the complaints are that the seat is too hard and the protection insufficient
i bought the high windscreen but it's still not enough, especially for the rear passenger
today I ordered an aeroflow windscreen
which gives good results ....

6000km this summer without the slightest hitch from Versailles to Vienne; low consumption, safe and secure. Since then, two recalls by the manufacturer, clearly explained, and an excellent welcome at the dealership; the gearbox, which was hard to start with, has become smoother and the gears now shift smoothly. I'm delighted with my purchase. The tire pressure gauge accessory was not recommended to me by the workshop manager, who admitted that for the time being, it's not very reliable. A delight on roads and freeways where many sports cars are blued... Rating : 5/5
To buy a motorcycle at 18,000 euros is to be treated more often than not like a sucker or a pain in the ass a few months later by the dealers. Believe me, this will put a damper on your interest in this brand, think twice before signing up with this exclusive network (because you should know that only BMW will take it back if it's new), and don't think that with a BMW you won't have to visit your dealership often, because that's the end of the reliability of BMW motorcycles, especially their new series. I also miss my R 1200 RT, on this serie K only the braking is perfect, the rest: engine, driving, comfort, and protection Bmw me enormously disappointed. Rating : 5/5
French petitjean Model 2006
What sadness, this K 1200 GT has nothing to do with my R 1200 RT, I hope that all these defects will be resolved before the end of the warranty, I do 2 to 3000 kms per year, already 2 times in the garage, the gears are hard and it turns like a tractor, I see that I'm not alone
Happy New Year!

I've always had flats, I had the misfortune to buy this K 1200 GT and I'm very disappointed, I'm thinking of buying an R 1200 or leaving bmw which is starting to seriously take the piss out of their customers, modifications need to be made quickly on this series, the engine runs badly, churns at mid-range and vibrates at all costs (the chassis is too hard)

French Pascal Model 2006
Hello,
I think this K 1200 GT looks great. According to the 1st comments, it should give all the happiness I expect from a real GT.
The only fly in the ointment is the PRICE. How can you design a machine at this price and add a whole series of options, which are presented as almost indispensable? With this few extra options, the bill exceeds €20,000 (?). Today, I'm riding a 900 Diversion GT (a rare GT machine), which offers unbeatable value for money
But you have to change, and I'm thinking of adopting this new bike very soon
With pleasure

voila, i've decided today, i've just ordered the new k 1200 gt, after 8 months of trying out the 1200 st (which i'm selling by the way), i hope it will live up to my long-distance backpacker expectations. Rating : 5/5

I loved the R1200RT: handling, stability, protection, comfort and looks. Much less so the engine, but I compare it to the Yamaha FJR 1300, which I consider to be its opposite. Highly anticipated, this K1200 GT delights me on the technical side, but its design is really disappointing. And given the machine's price, I'll have to be convinced by its superior road-holding qualities...but that's not impossible. Rating : 5/5
French armand29 Model 2006
I didn't think the R1200 RT was very pretty before I saw it, and I made my mea culpa when it arrived in the showcase. Well, I still don't like twins, but to each his own. I'm looking forward to the arrival of the K 1200 GT and RS, and I don't think I'm going to be disappointed by this photo, superb and classy, much less truckish than the last one. I'm already paying my dues in anticipation of the next RS, so tell me it's going to come right after it...eh?
If you've got anything on it.......ca reminds me of when I was dreaming of my 1st 350 CB...what a blast!!!

Having seen it in charcoal gray, it's not all that close to a fridge..
And there are at least 2 of us who are "apart", since I've been riding the R1200ST for 6 months and more than 7000km, and I'm delighted with it (with a particular fondness for Corsican roads!)
The only downside for me is that all these machines are marketed in France with a stupid 100hp clamping instead of a clamping based on the weight/power ratio... Grrrr ;)
