it has to be said that BMW didn't put too much effort into developing this trail bike. Well, to develop... Re-lifter above all. If we were to rely solely on the fork head, which is just as big-headed as you could wish, and on the overall pleasing appearance, the illusion of being in front of a new machine could well become a reality for a while. But let's make no mistake: despite its new name and stick rims, this trail bike is in fact an ex-F 650 GS with a new fairing top and new colors. Engine, chassis, seat, under-seat tank, bucket carrier, dual pot... everything is taken from the trail bike released in 2000. A good deal of black paint, however, tries to hide all that's metal.

let's not spit on it too much. Despite its typically BM price tag, the single-cylinder 650 GS (the current F is a twin) has always been a fun, lively machine. Its versatility is a real asset, but its new wheels will surely limit its off-road escapades. Its dashboard is frankly more attractive, its fuel consumption is announced at 4.2 liters at 90 km/h, ABS is standard and it can be fitted with heated grips as an option. As the Bavarian manufacturer didn't spend a lot of money on R&D for this G 650 GS, the price remains affordable... for a BMW.

Superb bike, very agile and lively, comfort and riding position beyond reproach. What's more, it's a real camel; 4L2 per 100. Yes, a 650 that, in my opinion, stands out from the crowd of trails of the same displacement. What's more, it has a Germanic finish. Great bike, the only one of my size (1m60) to ride around the world.
It's been to Azerbaijan (right up to the Caspian Sea), Armenia, Georgia and even Syria.
You can drive on tracks (not too bad) and 1000kms of freeway, relaxed and painless at 140-150km/h).

after trying it out for several days as a loaner bike for a service (one of BMW's undeniable plus points), I'm disappointed with this machine. In my personal opinion, it's ugly. The seat is high and very hard (my bottom hurts in 30 kms). Not much info, not even a gauge on the screen. The sound is... well, unbearable. It's so light it's like falling on a curve. You can't really feel the machine. You have to dare to go for a trail-style ride (with the boot out). Protection is non-existent, and there's a lot of wiggle room on the freeway. Power is sufficient for all applications, but the extension is insufficient for highway use. Night lighting is satisfactory. Fuel consumption is closer to 5l/100 for motorway use (at 130km/h). It's equipped with heated grips and ABS, a very good point!

Top marks for one of the last of the Mohicans, a single-cylinder trail bike. It's so rare these days. Solid rear platform, windshield, comfortable two-seater saddle, options to match (as expected from BM...). Lightness, versatility, grosmono, all very tempting, for riding mainly on the secondary network and even a little off it. I live in the Philippines and with my wife we travel all over the archipelago, where the road conditions are unreliable, often even bad, and there's a lot of track. Over there it's the best, low consumption, comfortable and very good polivalence considering the very bad road network and rather slow speed. Pleiku Model 2011

After 12 years off the road, I'm back on the bike and I'm very disappointed. The G650gs just doesn't do it for me. It's not made for long highway rides, too much vibration, comfortable only at 110 km/hr. I didn't know about the single-cylinder engine and I'm really disappointed. I wish the dealer had told me more about this machine. What's more, everything is optional, and the so-called on-board computer is absolutely useless, not even a Decu fuel gauge from BMW. I'd put 4 not to put 5, but it seems to me to be an excellent bike in its genre. I'm familiar with the same single-cylinder scarver and the chassis of a comparable single-cylinder trail bike (the excellent Freewind 650, to name but one).
