it's finally here! For as long as BMW had been introducing its new Boxer to the various models in its range, the R 1150 R roadster had been growing impatient with the fact that it too could not enjoy the performance of the 1170 cm3. Patience has finally been rewarded: with this new mill, Munich's bourgeois roadster can now claim a new presence on its coat of arms. Attention naked, here comes the new R 1200 R.

bM's R-series roadster is THE classy, bourgeois roadster, a beautiful, thoroughbred machine designed to take you from the golf club to Roland Garros. Not really the kind of machine to get into a street brawl with wild street-fighters. With the 1200 R, things may be about to change. Because by upgrading to a new generation, the bike gains a hefty dose of anabolic power. From 85 hp, the distiller now spits out 109 bhp - an extra 24 hp is quite a push forward, and puts the R 1200 R in direct competition with the Ducati S4R. More power and torque (up from 9.8 to 11.5 mkg) are combined with a staggering weight loss (-20 kg). The color is announced: the R has very serious new ambitions.

however, it's not the wisdom of the design that would have enlightened us about its new performance. The R remains the elegant roadster that characterizes it. However, this new opus seems less inspired, less gentrified than the 1150. Some intrinsic elements have even disappeared. It's a pity that the superb chrome-plated dashboard has been replaced by a black plastic housing featuring the latest generation of BM instrumentation. The front mudguard is back to standard, the two small side-mounted oil coolers have been replaced by a single element in front of the engine, and the attractive split Telelever is back to its original design. A keen eye will have noticed the addition of a steering damper under the Telelever's left arm. The R 1200 R's steering must be particularly lively if this appendage is used on this roadster.
There's also a new exhaust system, a rear end inspired by that of the K 1200 R, the latest version of the Paralever swingarm, superb new rims, and depending on the angle of view, even a hint of the Moto-Guzzi Breva. Amazing, isn't it?

BMW R 1200 R 2007The outfit is beautiful, the name is noble, and underneath it all is a technological extravaganza. The R 1200 R heralds a new onslaught of silicon chips and other engineering bubbles: new-generation integral ABS, ASC traction control, RDC tire pressure monitoring, ESA electronic suspension adjustment, digital on-board electronics with CAN bus network... Genuine 7-series sedan equipment. All of which can be found on the Bavarian manufacturer's generous and expensive options list. BM does make an effort on the seat, however, offering you a choice of seat height free of charge. Then, between the electronic kickstands, windscreen, heated grips, panniers, GPS, cylinder head covers and all the rest, we're not far off the Redoute catalog.

for a roadster of such cachet, you can't help but be pleasantly surprised to discover so much mechanical promise, rather reserved for tougher machines. The R 1200 R proves that you can be sporty in a baron's suit.

French Ricoh Model 2008
A pleasure to drive, homogeneous, versatile and reliable. The only criticism is that maintenance is governed by OBD, which means you have to go to a BMW professional for major repairs. Rating : 4/5
French leon Model 2010
i had one from 2007 and 37000 kms stuck at the dealership for 2 months in the summer because of a broken CDI 900e repair, I went back to the Japanese. Rating : 3/5

As the proud owner of a 2007 model, I can confirm that it's a very easy bike to ride, whether for short daily trips or longer tours. Reasonable fuel consumption (4.8 liters per cent annual average), easy maintenance, maximum fun! Rating : 5/5

Superb all-round bike, a (high) bubble is recommended for freeway trips. Rating : 4/5

Hello,
I have just purchased a 2010 R1200R, which has no inscription on its tank
I have the BMW advertising brochure for this model dating from 2006 and the model shown has this inscription
Can anyone tell me if it's an option to have the tank with no markings or if it's a factory series as is?
Thanks for any info
Best regards

very good motorcycle does not consume pushes very strong light even for displacement with the stop a true mob the only defect which I would find the engine is not enough flexible with low rpm obliged to play with the speeds for example roundabout in second not more if it grazes a motor bike to buy if one wants pleasure it will give you some to resell good road with all and a small hello of brive la gaillarde Rating : 5/5
I hadn't ridden a motorcycle for 12 years, and my last bike was an enduro (KTM 520). I bought a 2009 model six months ago, and found it extremely easy to get to grips with, with bluff handling. After 4,000 km, I've got nothing to complain about: ease of use, terrific braking, super-elastic engine and fuel consumption just over 5 l/100 km. I was lucky enough to come across a superbly well-equipped machine, with handguards, carbon front mudguards, carbon rear wheelwashers, carbon REMUS mufflers (great sound), top case and panniers in the same color as the bike, white. And all this, of course, with all the original options: ABS, ASC, RDC, alarm, and I could go on.
The only major drawback is the vibrations, but you get used to it.
But apart from that, it's a really great bike, very endearing.

Nearly 12,000 kms on the odometer and it's been a real pleasure. This is my 12th bike and it's by far the one I've had the most fun with, whether for a ride or for sport. The bike responds perfectly, the roadholding is top-notch, and I'm not even talking about the ABS integral braking system, which is incredibly effective.
One regret: the sound of the original exhaust is frustrating without the speedometer on the dashboard (very useful, by the way), you'd sometimes be driving in 5 when there's still a gear left. After replacing the original silencer with an arrow race tech titanium, the change is radical and the pleasure bewitching.
Follow my lead and try BMW

I've had a BMW GS 800 for 2 years and I'm very happy with it, but it's a bit high for me. I tried out the BMW R 1200 R and have to admit, it's one hell of a beast. The power amplified by the cardan drive system (the bike feels as if it's being pulled towards the ground) and the engine torque are impressive. What also surprised me was the phenomenal front/rear wheel braking, and the anti-skid and tire pressure indicator are very reassuring. I think I'm going to fall for it! Rating : 5/5

I've just bought a second-hand model and the engine is very nice and the chassis very reassuring. it's my 10th bike in 13 years, the last 2 were already twins but from ducati. i don't regret my purchase as everything is very well thought out and well finished, as always with BMW Rating : 5/5
French Model 2007
Already 5000 kms on my R1200R bought in September 2008 (second hand with almost all options and only 3500 kms)
I can confirm the qualities of this bike: manoeuvrability, stability, braking, comfort, fuel consumption averaging 5.5L (city/county/road), well-balanced when riding as a duo... a bike that lets you ride far and long without getting tired
It's not the only good bike on the market, but it's a real joy to ride, so give it a try!

I find this R1200R chic and sober, but you shouldn't have tried it! I've had the chance to ride it several times (go to the BMW concession tests every year in March) and I've fallen under its spell... Today I'm thinking of breaking my piggy bank for a one-year old "Gris granit" used car. With its CHASSIS, literally glued to the asphalt, there's a unique feeling of SAFETY and RELAXATION. When you turn the handle, it moves air! But with a blend of STRENGTH and SOFTNESS
BICYCLE HANDLING,very low fuel consumption, almost equal to that of my 600 Fazer 99.it's amazing!
BMW is the king of the OPTIONS list, which is as long as your arm... It hurts your wallet
But ESA, heated grips (Mmmm in winter!), ABS and valoches (I could go on)
in short, a PLEASURE motorcycle, versatile, an INVESTMENT that I hope I won't have to regret.)

French Model 2007
I got my license in 1998, and I'm now 59
I've had Honda Transalp, BMW R1100R, Honda 800VFR, Harley Héritage Softel, Yamaha FJR1300, I'm going back to BMW on an R1200RT

All excellent machines, but my great pleasure was my R1100R 5 years ago, smoothness, comfort, finishings, I don't ride fast, I enjoy the nose to the wind, motorcycling for me is ride cool
More expensive it's a fact, but the quality is there
The options are expensive, but compared to Harley, it's still 50% less

French Model 2007
Hello everyone. Personally, I find this new Behemoth magnificent, also very expensive, I tried several times the previous model, the R1150R, and it is only happiness, an overflowing torque, an excellent comfort even for the passenger (currently nobody wants to go up behind me on my Z750), not need to change continuously gear to overtake etc... one opens and it sets out again, it is a large road which swallows Kms in great comfort.very expensive, but compared to an 800VFR (single-arm, chain, 800cm3 with Vtec that nobody likes), it's the same price. The BM has a single-arm and cardan shaft, Telelever and Paralever (excellent), 1200cm3, aviation hoses, etc. If the R1200R has the same qualities as its predecessor, I'll buy it without hesitation! Either you like bm or you don't. bm bikes are expensive, but they're reliable and built to last. what's more, the cardan shaft is virtually maintenance-free. What's more, they're comfortable and effortless to ride, and don't consume too much power
and like all bm bikes, they have plenty of torque

French Model 2007
12,000 € is expensive, ok, it's bm's list of options and exorbitant prices
but you can't push zero to 100 in 3.6 s and go faster than 200 km/h. so what?
a 650 bandit s zero to 100 in 3.6 s and 210 km/h
for 6300 €
okay, it's not the same prestige, and we're not going to talk about finish or comfort either, but what can justify such a price?
why not make simple, reliable products at affordable prices? especially since a flat is less expensive to produce than a four-cylinder? in short, a beautiful machine reserved for wealthy customers who want to ride a luxury machine.

Rating : 5/5
