presentation of the SS 100 Salt Racer 2020
Brough Superior adds a fourth model to its range, just as sublime as the SuperSports 100, Pendine Sand Racer and Anniversary - not to mention theAMB 001, which the manufacturer builds for Aston Martin. Aimed at wealthy aesthetes, the Salt Racer presents itself as a high-end sports bike.
At this level of luxury, a motorcycle is no longer a matter of everyday considerations, performance or capability. Admiration meets dream, luxury meets mechanical delight.
With its daringly styled forkhead, road-glinting engine hoof and spurred stern, the Brough Superior Salt Racer is as evocative as it is provocative. Haute couture or jewelry? Probably somewhere in between.
The big French twin blows through a novel exhaust system, raised like a scrambler and adorned with thermal stripes. Delivering between 100 and 130 hp on the S.S. 100 roadster, one would have hoped that the design workshops would have doped it up a bit to match its athletic image. But the Salt Racer is faithful to the power of its siblings. Just what you need for a gentleman racer, far removed from the prerogatives of a pure sports bike.
If the Salt Racer's technical features are the same as those of the brand's other models, its mechanical passion will swim in happiness. The whole machine can only be designed with noble or prestigious components. The Fior fork made of magnesium and aluminum, the titanium frame, the mass-produced parts, the machined engine sides, the alcantara seat and the Beringer dual-disc braking system are perfect illustrations.
This Salt Racer is not for us, but for our fantasies. Money isn't even an issue when it comes to this kind of bike. Buying one is like financing an apartment, scratching it inadvertently is like pulverizing an iPhone. Speed glides over prestige.
Brough Superior is planning a production run of 300 units. Very few will hit the road, as this kind of work would be better off in an art gallery or private collection.
