presentation of the Rally GT 300 2027
Bultaco is returning to the market with a small trail bike that feels like “déjà vu” and is designed to be accessible. The Spanish brand had planned a comeback about ten years ago with the Rapitan; a foray into electric bikes…... A spark that never caught fire.
This time, Bultaco is sticking to a familiar, widely used, practical—but soulless—path. Its new Rally GT 300 aims to carve out a niche by banking on a rock-bottom price and its famous brand name.
A rebranded cousin
Bultaco was a benchmark in the off-road world of the 1970s. Its name is set in stone, but its new machine doesn’t stem from that past. Let’s get straight to the point: it’s a clone of the Leonart 300 Rally. Both “cousins” are based in Spain but are manufactured in China. This is an OEM arrangement—an increasingly common approach for brands seeking to quickly bring a machine to market without exhausting themselves technically and financially through in-house development.
The proof: it seems to have come out of nowhere and is already on the road. This motorcycle has only made an unofficial appearance so far, at an enduro competition in Spain. But there’s no doubt it’s coming. Bultaco is working on its revival, and official details will be released in a few weeks.
However, since the Leonart is already on the market, this gives us a glimpse of the broad outlines of this latest small trail bike. It will be powered by a 292 cm³ single-cylinder engine, producing just under 30 chevaux. A bike designed primarily for markets in Asia or South America, but one that will try to carve out a niche for itself among the TVS RTX 300, Honda CRF 300 L, Benelli BKX 300, Voge 300 Rally, Macbor XR3 250 Montana, and others.
The technical setup is simple, as is common on bikes in this segment. A conventional steel-tube frame, simple brakes with small-diameter discs clamped by 2-piston calipers up front and a single-piston caliper in the rear, an inverted fork, and a long-travel shock absorber for exploring trails, a high-mounted exhaust, spoked rims, and knobby tires—all wrapped in bodywork that evokes Asia more than Spain.
An affordable 300cc trail bike
In addition to quickly adding a model to the lineup, this strategy allows Bultaco to offer a motorcycle at a competitive price (we’re guessing just under 4,000 euros) with a fairly comprehensive feature set for a 300. The Rally GT 300 is expected to come equipped with a 5-inch color TFT display, a dashcam, crash bars, a luggage rack, a USB port, and full LED lighting.
So, how will the bike stand out from the crowd? Perhaps with a touch of patriotism……? A dash of curiosity…..? And marketing that’s up to the task.
