presentation of the 1000 MT-X 2026

CFMOTO is reaching two very strategic and psychological milestones in 2026. The brand is unveiling its hypersport project with the 1000 SR-RR, and its trail offering is stepping up a gear with the new 1000 MT-X. This poses a very serious threat to the competition, with features that the public will be looking at closely. With these two machines, the game is changing dimension.

However, this is not obvious at first glance. The 1000 MT-X looks exactly like the 800. This is not a flaw, as its appearance is rather attractive, very off-road-oriented, with flattering shapes and volumes. Except that it would have been nice to have a redesigned look, even if only slightly, to show a more elevated, more muscular, more "1000" stature.

The upper deck

Let's face it, CFMOTO is playing with words, or rather numbers. It's not really a 1000. The twin engine would make it more of a small 1000 or a large 900. The most powerful of the MT-X models has the 946 cc engine of the 990 Duke, RC-R and upcoming Adventure. A 56 kg twin cylinder (only 3 kg more than the Yamaha CP2) allows the machine to claim 111 horsepower. This is a comfortable figure, achieved at 8,500 rpm, and above all, it puts this trail bike in the same league as the Honda Africa Twin, BMW F 900 GS, Triumph Tiger 900, Ducati DesertX, Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE and shows the Voge 900 DSX who's boss. Now you understand the manufacturer's level of commitment.

The engine delivers about ten horsepower less than the Katoche roadster. However, it has more torque, with 10.7 mkg, reached at a lower speed (6,250 rpm). The throttle response should be very appreciable (if the Bosch injection is well calibrated from the start). One of the bonuses is the weight. Only 1 kg more than the 800. With a dry weight of 199 kg, the 1000 MT-X is within the usual range for its category. And with a full tank? It weighs in at 222 kg.

In terms of equipment, CFMOTO sources from recognized manufacturers, which is a guarantee of confidence for the user. European customers are still wary of certain exotic names. With this MT-X, you get Kayaba suspension, Brembo brakes, Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires, and a Bosch 6-axis inertial unit.

This brings us to the electronic load of this trail bike. It's quite reasonable compared to the overabundance found on the most popular machines. The rider will have 5 riding modes at their disposal, angle-sensitive traction control, cornering ABS, a shifter, and tire pressure monitoring. A large 8-inch vertical TFT color screen allows you to monitor all of this.

As is customary for Chinese machines, it also features comfort elements that are sure to impress. An adjustable windshield, seat, and handlebars, hand guards, deflectors on the fork head, heated grips, a heated monoblock seat, smartphone connectivity, USB and USB-C ports, tubeless spoked wheels... To really appreciate its potential, the 1000 MT-X is sure to go a long way with 22.5 liters in the tank. It has a claimed range of 450 km.

Let's stick with the technical details for a moment. The 320 mm brake discs, M4.32 4-piston radial calipers, 48 mm inverted fork, fully adjustable suspension with generous 230 mm travel, 21- and 18-inch wheels, and a seat height that's not too extreme (830 mm, or 870 mm in the high position).

A game changer in its class

The CFMOTO 1000 MT-X is a turning point whose full significance is not yet fully realized. Yet it marks the dawn of a new era:
- It is the first powerful Chinese 1000cc trail bike (the Morbidelli T 1002 V hasless than 90 hp).
- It is ahead of the 990 Adventure (still in the pipeline), while the MTs are still lagging behind the KTM trail bikes. Here, the clone is ahead of the original.
- It should cost 30% less than the competition.

All that's missing is for the 1290 engine from Mattighofen to land at MT so that the brand can really make a splash. Anything is possible now.

Apparently, and based on tests, it’s close to perfection—just 1 kilo heavier than the 800X, which makes all the difference. But with 19- and 17-inch wheels, that would lower the seat height, making it more accessible to a wider range of riders, not to mention that most people will use it 80% on the road and 20% on trails.
In that case, a low fender would be much more appropriate, and it would look even better.
It would make for a great GT, even if the travel is reduced to 210 mm and the “comfort” saddle height is maxed out at 830 mm.
220 mm of ground clearance is enough for all-terrain riding or sidewalks, lol.
Like the Kove 800 GT, which costs €8,799, but with less power and without well-known brands.
It’s €9,990 in Spain with a 4-year manufacturer’s warranty, even though they have a 21% VAT rate. It’s a real shame that in France we get a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty and 2 years on certain parts—but no labor—for €10,500.
In France, at €9,999 with a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty, it would be a steal—I’d buy it right away.
I was really tempted by the Honda Transalp 750, but now with this 1000X—if they offer it with these modifications—I’m sold, because for me it would be perfect lol

The most surprising thing, in the end, is that CFMOTO is releasing a maxi-trailer based on the new 950cc engine before KTM does, without going through the 890cc engine first.

In any case, we already know that the quality is at least on par with KTM’s, since the 790cc and 890cc engines are all manufactured in China.

The only question mark, ultimately, is the reliability of the new engine block and certain components—a major drawback in previous versions.

It also remains to be seen whether CF Moto will be able to tune and optimize the engine as well as KTM does. Apparently, fuel consumption is already reported to be higher than that of the same 130-hp KTM engine found in the Duke. Tuning the fuel injection and engine response—all of this remains to be seen, as do delivery and after-sales service. For the price, the offer is certainly tempting. Rating : 3/5

I'm almost tempted, but I'm a little wary of the reliability of these KTM engines, and I'm not too keen on the look of those tanks on either side.
I see that it's already available for "pre-sale" (Magasin Moto in Fréjus) for €10,599.

Otherwise, the future QJ Motor Rino 900 ADV (2026 or 2027?) looks pretty good too...

CF Moto is gaining momentum with a motorcycle that rivals Euro-Japanese models. The days of cheap, rough-and-ready products are over.
For those who want to know more about this motorcycle, including manufacturing details, a complete engine breakdown with detailed views, and information on the quality and brands of bearings and alloys, You'll be surprised by the quality.
In short, if you want it, you'll buy it with full knowledge of the facts. Here is a link to the MT Tech channel, which is dedicated to dismantling and detailing motorcycle engines.

Hello Delta2,
I find your comment a bit simplistic. You probably don't need 100 hp, but maybe you don't travel all over Europe, or maybe you prefer a smaller engine size. But to make such a radical judgment...I'm sure most motorcyclists who travel on bikes larger than 450cc will be happy to "show off." Have a good trip, my friend.

The 4 and a half is enough for an average biker. I've been riding for 50 years and I don't need a bike over 100 honeys to show off Rating : 4/5

Although I agree with the principle that "you don't need a big bike," especially if you're doing TT, there has to be bikes for all tastes.
CF Moto has the excellent MT450 for when you don't want to take on a big bike.
But if you're traveling with a passenger and a cat, a 1000cc has its charm. These mammoths actually serve as GTs, which they have replaced in the same way that SUVs have replaced station wagons.
98% of these bikes will never see the dirt roads, let alone the mud.
The MT 1000 will not be a show-off bike like some German or Italian bikes can be, since it is Chinese and not expensive enough.
