presentation of the Multistrada V2 890 2025

The Ducati Multistrada V2 continues the twin road bike tradition. Admittedly, the big V4 sister has a lot going for it in terms of power, prestige and superior sales figures. But a twin-cylinder remains essential in the range. However, the new MTS is so modified that only the number of cylinders remains. Like many Ducatis, it changes state and principle, while continuing the spirit.

Let's respond to some people's fears straight away. The desmo and trellis frame? It clears the air. Whether you like it or not, these emblematic elements are becoming marginal in Bologna. The time has come to streamline engine production, say goodbye to certain principles and think about the future. That's what the Multistrada is doing with its new V2.

A universal engine for Ducati?

A brand-new powertrain, already shared with the Streetfighter and Panigale. If these spirited machines have lost some of their grunt, the trail bike will be much happier to welcome this twin full of new promise. For starters, it's got a few more horses. With 115 horsepower, its strength is up by 2 units. Torque is down slightly, from 9.6 to 9.4 mkg. But the most interesting thing about the Multistrada V2 is the arrival of variable valve timing. With this technology, at least 3/4 of the maximum torque is always available between 3,500 rpm and 11,000 rpm.

This 890 cm3 block is lightweight (just 54.9 kg), compact and future-proof, and has been adapted to suit the MTS's intended use. The first two gear ratios have been shortened to facilitate low-speed evolutions. The design of this new twin-cylinder also makes it possible to install a 2.0 shifter with a more pleasant feel and greater efficiency.

Ducati Multistrada V2 890 2025

As the technical aspects of this new Multistrada V2 saga will shake up a few conventions, Ducati has modernized the machine's design, judiciously emphasizing the change. At first glance, the identity is intact, although a sense of guile quickly emerges. It has changed far more than it lets on, and its fleeting features only hide it for a short time. Her eyes are finer, her beak less aggressive, her shoulders lighter, her bust more imposing, her tank more massive.... The lady seems to suggest that she has grown in stature.
There's a lot of plastic, blinkers that don't want to buddy up to the mirrors any more and take their place on the sides, ducts in front of the knees to bring fresh air to the rider, a completely redesigned bubble, and an imperceptible feeling of weight gain.

A totally false idea. For if the Multistrada V2 has grown in stature, it has done so alongside a serious diet. Combining a few figures, we can see that its weight without fuel is the same as the previous model 's dry weight (199 kg). A few calculations later, almost 9 kg would have been lost. But the parent company claims 18. Always the optimists, the Italians.

A completely new frame

The engine has certainly contributed to this change. But also the new aluminum monocoque frame. A light, minimalist structure anchored to the engine, it saves weight and takes up less space between the legs - no more tubes, no more plates, just a cylinder head and the bottom of the fuel tank. The manufacturer also took the opportunity to redesign the subframe and swingarm. The fork's diameter has been reduced, but it's still strong at 45 mm. Other peripherals (19- and 17-inch wheels, 320 mm brakes, Brembo M4.32 calipers) are carried over from theprevious Multistrada , and won't disappoint.

The Italian trail bike takes another step forward in on-board comfort. The seat height remains unchanged (830 mm), but is now adjustable and can be raised to 850 mm. The entire seat has been redesigned, giving the rider a little more legroom. Then, once you're on board, there's a whole new interface. The Multistrada was more than tired of the S version strutting its stuff with a TFT screen - now it's a new 5-inch slab for everyone, with new graphics and three types of display.

The electronics are more extensive, with cruise control, a USB socket, new controls, the Coming Home function, which leaves the headlights on for 30 seconds, and a new WET driving mode. As a result, the Multistrada V2 features 5 Riding Modes (Sport - Touring - Urban - Enduro - Wet) to orchestrate the various riding aids: cornering ABS, 4 power levels, DTC traction control, DWC wheeling control, and EBC engine brake control; all adjustable to several levels. And let's not forget to mention the hill-start assist, self-locking turn signals, automatic warning in the event of heavy braking, and LEDs for everything that lights up.

The S version adds Skyhook semi-active suspension, Minimum Preload function for lowering the rear end, multimedia connectivity, and twice as many colors to choose from.

With its new V2, the Multistrada has seen the opportunity to (almost) completely renew itself without losing its multi-make spirit. The engine character will certainly change, but enjoyment should improve. However, we still don't understand why heated grips are an optional extra on a bike that's as much about touring as it is about everyday riding.

Ducati Multistrada V2 890 2025

890 Multistrada V2 riding modes:

sport : delivers the full 115 hp with a direct, spirited response. Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Wheelie Control are reduced to a minimum, and the ABS, set to level 2, allows controlled rear wheel lift to maximize braking performance, while retaining the Cornering function.

touring : releases its 115hp power, but the delivery is smoother and more progressive. Higher DTC and DWC intervention levels meet the needs of touring use. The ABS is set to level 3, the safest and most cautious thanks to rear wheel lift detection.

urban : power reduced to a maximum of 95 hp, with particularly smooth, progressive response (Low Engine Mode). DTC and DWC are set to high levels, while ABS is set to level 3.

enduro : limits engine power to 95 hp with a dedicated Engine Mode (Offroad), for a more dynamic and direct response than in Urban mode, at equal power. The DTC and DWC systems are set to the specific offroad level, while the ABS is set to level 1, suitable for off-road use on low-grip terrain. In this case, ABS cornering and rear-wheel intervention are all deactivated.

wet : designed for driving on wet roads. This mode limits maximum power to 95hp, with particularly smooth throttle response (Low Power Mode). The preset level of electronic controls is set for maximum safety on wet roads.
