presentation of the 1100 MULTISTRADA 2008
ducati's wildest machine has been chosen to host a small revolution. A new milestone for the factory, less violent than the arrival of Desmoquattro, but interesting in more ways than one. 2007 saw the arrival of a new displacement in Bologna; and for the first time, Ducati engines exceeded one liter in displacement (except if you count the 1260 Apollo, released in 2 prototype examples in 1963). 86 cm3 more for the brand's largest finned twin, 1,078 in total, and here comes the 1100 Multistrada.
the 1100 remains faithful to air/oil cooling, 2 valves and 2 spark plugs per cylinder with desmo technology (a must). Derived from the 992 cm3, whose bore has been increased, the block is fitted with an oil bath clutch like the ST3 road bike. The charm is lost a little, but the flexibility of the clutch is all the more appreciable. More displacement = more torque and more power. The big Italian sports trail claims 95 horsepower and a significant increase in pulling power, with more than 10 mkg at 4,750 rpm - 1 mkg more offered at a lower rpm than before. The gaseous vein will benefit from the new cylinder head design, inspired by Testatretta technology. The angle between the intake (45 mm) and exhaust (40 mm) valves has been reduced, improving combustion chamber efficiency. The crankshaft and connecting rods have also been redesigned. What's more, the maintenance schedule for this new engine is announced with more frequent overhaul intervals. Thanks for the wallet.
ducat takes the opportunity to equip the Multistrada with new instrumentation, including a more reliable fuel gauge. There are no changes to the chassis or brakes, but silent-blocks have been fitted to the steering to reduce vibrations from the twin. The S version, with Öhlins suspension, will also be fitted with this new 1100 DS engine. And all we have to do now is wait to see a Monster 1100, an SS 1100, and why not an ST 3 1100?
