who remembers the Quota? It was a big, Varadero-style trail bike that Moto-Guzzi presented in 1000 cc form in 1992, several years before the Honda, and which heralded the evolution of trail bikes into large, road-going machines.
Many years later, Moto-Guzzi returned to this niche. 2008 saw the arrival of the 1200 Stelvio, a direct competitor to the BMW R 1200 GS, Aprilia Caponord and Suzuki V-Strom. Its name was not chosen at random: the Stelvio is one of the most spectacular mountain passes in the Alps, with its many twists and turns.

a machine with an adventurous look, but designed more for the road than for trails. The engine, obviously a twin with side-mounted cylinders, is nothing less than the new 1200, with 4-valve cylinder heads as on the Griso 1200 presented the previous year.
The specifications include 320 mm brake discs with Brembo radial calipers, a new frame, 50 mm fork tubes, 19" wheels at the front and 17" at the rear, and a height-adjustable windscreen. But what inspires us most is the bike's capabilities, which rival those of the benchmark BMW R 1200 GS.
