presentation of the 1198 S 2010
Change of engine, change of pace, change of name, but not of habit. Like every new model in the Ducati family, the 1198 is seconded, or rather optimized, with a more efficient S version.
what's a few thousand euros more when you leaf through the 1198 S specification sheet? Once you've got over the initial jolt, you realize just how demanding the bike really is. After all, the S not only features Öhlins suspension instead of Showa, it also comes with on-board electronics to make the most of the 170 hp of the big Italian twin.
at Ducati, S stands for performance (the R stands for racing). What we have here is a beautiful motorcycle, designed to flatter the ego and set the clock ticking - the 1098 R Bayliss L.E. will do just that. As information on the 1198 cm3 engine is detailed in the standard 1098 specification sheet - click here - we'll concentrate on the on-board electronics.
No, not the fully digital instrument panel with its wealth of information, operated from the handlebars (tachometer in bar-graph or digital digits, speedometer, two trips, etc.).speed, 2 trips, selected traction control profile, air and coolant temperature, battery voltage, stopwatch, maintenance indicator, etc.).. eh oh, look at the road a bit...!).
It's not in front of your eyes, but after the handlebar, that the Ducati Corse's chips and programs come into action. The data acquisition system was already present on the previous 1098 S(it's optional on the standard 1198). Now, the S goes much further, adopting the traction control previously reserved for the 1098 R. Called DTC, this system uses the same software developed and used by Ducati Corse for its machines competing in the MotoGP and Superbike world championships. It offers a choice of eight settings, from plus to minus tolerance, to suit the circuit and riding conditions.
in addition to the electronics, the 1198 S is surprisingly slender for a twin. The new suspension, engine and carbon parts reduce the weight of the bike by 2 kg, bringing it down to 169 kg. You can expect a difference of over 4,000 euros between the 2 versions of the 1198. But when you like to have fun on the track...

That's it for the big lines, a bike that'll give you a lot, but you'll have to put your hand in the wallet Rating : 5/5 Respond to Renard 22
Hang on to your underpants, because this one shakes! !!!!This bike is a thrill machine, and should be reimbursed by the health system, because it's so good. I had her little sister, the 848, for 4 years, and it was already a great bike. Now I've got the white and red 2010 1198S, and it's magnificent, it's Christmas every time I go into the garage.
Because it pushes, and it pushes hard, the twin is magical, but beware, it can be just as violent on big downshifts, but who cares, the DTC is there! And it holds the pavement, it's a scalpel. One look at it on a curve and it'll throw itself, especially with a pair of Diablo supercorsa, all suspended by Ohlins, so all's well. Brembo is there for you, so it brakes very well. Add a full Termignoni line to feel like you're at the opera, or gain a few horsepower, and you've got the Grail!
In short, I'm madly in love with this machine, and it's mine forever Rating : 5/5 Respond to el loco 17
the only reproach would be the price!!! Rating : 5/5 Respond to ducat jo
