presentation of the Multistrada 1200 S Pikes Peak 2013
going hand in hand with the evolution of the Multistrada, the Pikes Peak version confirms and asserts its presence within the range. For the eyes, the most noticeable change is the new paint scheme, which moves from a "Ducati Corse" color to a more "MotoGP"-type look.
With a smaller carbon bubble and Termignoni carbon exhaust to complement the original, and 1199 Panigale S-type Marchesini forged rims, the Pikes Peak abandons GT accessories in favor of a sporty package. This makes sense when you're commemorating its performance in the famous race of the same name. Carbon parts such as front air intakes, mudguards, timing belt covers and side air extractors are also featured. The sporty spirit is completed by a special seat with red stitching.
deeper inside, the Multistada Pikes Peak "evo" houses the Testastretta II twin. No increase in power (with 150 hp, there's already plenty to go around), but a 0.6 mkg increase in torque. Ducati has reintroduced its Dual Spark technology, allowing each cylinder to benefit from dual ignition. All these engine improvements should make for a smoother ride and lower fuel consumption.
the Ducat' trail bike has gained a slight 5 kilos on the scales. But at 194 kilos unladen, it's one of the lightest in its class. Do we owe this extra weight to the electronic overkill? From the throttle to the suspension, it's all there: ride-by-wire, 8-stage DTC traction control, hands-free starting system, 3-stage Bosch 9ME ABS, Riding Mode system for 4 riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, Enduro), and the new Skyhook Suspension (DSS). Multistrada S models are no longer equipped with Öhlins, but with Sachs semi-active suspension. A battery of sensors informs the DSS system of the road profile, and the system responds by automatically adjusting the damping in compression or rebound, depending on the Riding Mode used. The latter now allows even more refined settings. Each mode can be completed with a selection of "rider only", "rider with luggage", "rider and passenger", or "rider and passenger with luggage". In short, 16 types of configuration multiplied by 8 levels of traction control that retain 3 ABS laws equals a suspension engineer assigned to your Multistrada.
in 2013, the MTS 1200 gains a new LED headlight, a warning system, a slightly redesigned front end and a major service interval increased to 24,000 kms.
