presentation of the 999 2005
The spearhead of the Bolognese factory undergoes its first mutation, 2 years after its shock appearance. A transformation that had already begun with the 999 R model year 2005. The standard version follows suit.
In fact, there's plenty to go wrong. Aside from the conventional brake calipers, this 999 bears a striking resemblance to the R. It steals the R's new fork head without top gills, and its sturdy swingarm. A lighter, stiffer piece of aluminum taken straight from the 999 Factory bikes raced in the Superbike championship. The original bubble is higher, and the fairing is made of a new material that saves more than 1 kilo over the entire cladding.
Faithful and incorruptible, the Italian is still powered by the L-twin, which jumps to 140 hp. An increase of 16 horsepower reinforced by torque now in excess of 11 mkg. The twin has been given a vitamin boost. It now outperforms that of theAprilia RSV 1000 R, its neighboring but formidable competitor.
Fully adjustable, Showa suspension and fork, and Brembo brakes. No radial-mount calipers, but 4 pistons and 1 pad per piston for each caliper, plus radial master cylinders on each handlebar lever (brake and clutch).
A few kilos lighter, new Marchesini rims, a carbon exhaust cover - all the best for this superbike, which has saved itself a pleasant surprise: the price remains the same. Desire is always expensive, but it doesn't suffer from inflation.
Despite all these evolutions, the 999 is still entitled to certain criticisms, which some would put in the "authenticity" box. The gearbox is too firm, the seat lacks comfort, the suspension is as dry as it is effective... A Ducat' has to be earned, but we would have appreciated an engine with more character. It's become very powerful, but when it comes to sensationalism, we've seen better. Let's stop throwing stones - the Italian twin knows how to talk powder when you wake it up. Very lively and full to the brim at all revs, the boiler sends big watts to the rear tire

It's beautiful, but also terribly efficient. A real joy on the road if you like sporty driving. I think I'll be surprised once the running-in period is over. I could indeed exceed 6000t..
It's true that there are a few drawbacks: average comfort. Especially after a long day's ride... But that's normal for a sports car. Very decent protection. Except that the front mudguard is non-existent in case of rain. You'll need to budget for washing powder. Finally, it doesn't like low revs, and therefore city driving. Unless I haven't figured it all out yet. It could be
