presentation of the 1920 Super Glide FXD 2026
Harley is reintroducing the Super Glide after a very long hiatus. Yet this model and its origins are iconic. First introduced in 1971, the Super Glide is the progenitor of all FX models—the mother of many models over the decades. This Harley, created by Willy G. Davidson, pioneered the style of a “custom” motorcycle right from the factory.
Individual freedom
55 years later, the Super Glide is making a comeback in the lineup; initially as a limited edition—2,500 units—with a color scheme heavily inspired by the original model. Although it is not part of Harley’s Liberty collection, it too celebrates the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence as a special edition.
So many symbols, brought together in a dazzling display of chrome and unmistakable style. For the Super Glide is one of the most perfect expressions of the big custom bike: the most timeless silhouette in the category, very high handlebars, spoked wheels, a generously sized fuel tank, a quintessentially Glide center console, and an impeccably showcased engine.
With 1,923 cc, the Milwaukee-Eight twin will never cease to deliver power and an inimitable character. Far fewer vibrations than its venerable predecessor, yet torque at every rpm and a thrust so deep it feels like a bison is straining at the rear wheel.
For the Street Glide, the “Classic” mapping was chosen to prioritize a very flat and readily available torque curve. More than the 98 horsepower, what stands out is the 163 Nm at 2,500 rpm. Cruise at ease; the Street Glide will surge forward at every command.

Time has done its work
As it enters a new era, the Super Glide has adapted in terms of its engine and, even more so, its chassis. A transformation, even. Because it is now equipped with a Softail chassis, whereas it had been a Dyna since 1991. A particularly notable change at the rear (with the shock absorber hidden under the seat). The ride may throw some early-adopter fans off balance, but the Harley crowd will find it to their liking. A steel-framed chassis, a single brake disc at the end of the 49 mm fork, a very stripped-down riding feel but a good dose of well-hidden technology. What
Newcomer would imagine that this custom bike with such a classic look features three riding modes, tire pressure monitoring, and cornering sensitivity for its traction control, ABS, and residual torque management? The Super Glide has also realized with its return that a USB-C port is essential and has installed one on the front left.

The Custom
The Super Glide doesn’t just echo the colors and spirit of the original model. It also positions itself as one of the most affordable Harleys in the Cruiser family. Since the Fat Boy was thoroughly modernized in 2018, the Glide takes up the torch of custom style in its most obvious and common form.
Harley will only offer it in the United States and Canada—but let’s hope a non-limited edition will be available in 2017.

I’ve always kept an eye on Harleys, but hey, I’m Italian and all that!
Ciao Rating : 5/5 Respond to Calzo
As Greg mentions in his article, only 2,500 units of the motorcycle will be produced, and they will be available exclusively in the U.S. and Canada, so there is no price listed in Europe (in euros). Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
