presentation of the 1690 ULTRA LIMITED FLHTK 2016
the Electra Glide Ultra Limited is the pinnacle of the Harley range, just before the CVO. An expression of Grand Tourism wanting to break free of limits. And Project Rushmore offered an abundance of improvements in 2014. Four years of listening to customers, gathering comments and ideas, providing feedback, and in the end, a discreet leap forward in every respect. The 1690 Electra Limited "generation 2" will seem little different, as delicious as ever, but its performance is in a different league. What's it all about?
well, it starts with a journey into the heart of the Twin Cam 103. You look at it, from near and far, and see no difference except its majesty. And yet, if you knew what Harley put inside... Water! Liquid cooling, hoses, radiators. Everything that would make purists howl. But the manufacturer has gone to great lengths not to offend anyone. The twin-cylinder is still predominantly air-cooled; only the cylinder heads are water-cooled.
Coolant is routed through the cylinder heads into the area around the exhaust valves. As for the heat exchangers, they are remarkably well concealed in the lower fairings. The compression ratio has been increased to 10.1:1 from 9.6:1. The airbox offers greater flow and an improved cam optimizes low-end torque. It's a win-win situation: less heat in traffic jams, 10.6% more power and 10.7% more torque. The 1688 cm3 Twin Cooled High Outout now boasts 14 mkg of torque at 3,750 rpm. An improvement of almost half a kg over the previous Twin Cam 103. Far from the 10.7% announced, which left us hoping for 15 mkg in all. Well, these are just numbers. We all know what this engine is all about.
More anecdotally, the clutch springs are firmer, but the hydraulic clutch control allows the same lever effort.
a touch of watering in the engine, and a scalpel stroke in the fairing. Harley also dares to modify its timeless "Batwing" fork head. 3000 tests later, a central air intake is cut under the windshield, to equalize air pressure and reduce turbulence around the rider's helmet. It opens and closes at the touch of a button. Then it's a cocktail of practicality and style that subtly modifies the Limited's peripherals. The Tour Pak trunk is more compact, yet offers 4% more capacity. The slimmer suitcases also provide more storage space. These pieces of luggage open with a single press. What's more, they can be locked with a One-Touch button, just like the fuel filler flap, Jukebox and glove compartments.

Let's stay with life on board and discover how comfort is evolving. For the rider, as we've seen, there's a full complement of instrumentation, heated grips and cruise control. It's on the passenger side that the gains are made. The seat is 2.5 cm longer and wider, the saddlebags are lowered, the backrest is redesigned in height, width, angle and shape for greater comfort, the speakers are shifted and the armrests adjusted. With all this, it's impossible not to please the lady.
the year of change should almost have changed the name of this Touring from Limited to Unlimited. After optimizing the engine, comfort and entertainment, Harley also turned its attention to the chassis. Lighter, stiffer wheels, certainly. A 49 mm fork, yes. Fine-tuned damping, OK. And for braking, the Reflex system combined with ABS. In simple terms, front and rear brakes operate independently below 40 km/h. Above this speed, linked braking is activated. Above that, linked braking is activated and an electronic management system distributes braking between the front and rear.
Lighting has also evolved, with a Daymaker LED headlamp complemented by halogen fog lamps. In addition to offering greater luminosity, Daymaker technology adds a surprisingly modern touch. In all, these eyes distribute 2136 lumens to pierce the dark. Do these figures mean nothing to you? Neither do I.
While retaining a maximum of the style that makes the Electra so proud, this hymn to the open road now offers much more for a minimum of inflation. An increase which is, in any case, virtually transparent, given the amount of money required for the right to cruise on such a liner. Sitting on the 103 High Output Electra Glide Ultra Limited Rushmore, there's no longer any excuse for not enjoying yourself over thousands of kilometers.

Finally, an objective commentary on HD.
A lot of riders test without any real objectivity.
I'm 60 and I've been riding motorcycles since I was 16, so I've had several bikes of different makes.
For two-up riding, the Electra is one of the best motorcycles, especially as a passenger, and the bike's performance is more than sufficient for our regulatory constraints.
The plusses of Harleys are: build quality, looks, rating, reliability and, of course, there are clubs all over the world. To try it with a passenger is to adopt it, and a little madness doesn't hurt in this world where... Rating : 5/5 Respond to amiral
A reply a little late but ... !
mine does the same thing (1450 electra 2002), it's normal, you have to wait a little, because the petrol is no longer liquid in the carburettor, it's vaporized because of the heat, nothing to worry about, but rather chia... you have to wait 5 minutes, that's how it is in summer when it heats up too much, just as the oil rises to 100 degrees (normal) Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
who has tried it successfully? does it work
other than harleys?
thank you very much Rating : 4/5 Respond to arcadius

when it's hot, and the engine is hot, the motorcycle stopped in neutral, the idle speed starts to turn faster! the dealership can't tell me why? Have you ever had this question?
i'd like to know because it's unpleasant Rating : 5/5 Respond to huortp
This function allows your rear cylinder to cool down.
To deactivate it, after starting the engine, turn the throttle in the opposite direction for a few seconds. The speed limiter should flash red or green. Red function deactivated, green function active.
Look in the tech doc.
Have a good trip Rating : 2/5 Participate in the conversation
it just makes a few concessions to the competition, that's what's needed, we don't want more, otherwise we might as well buy a jap and its insipid engine (electric)
this hd, as so often, is a delight, and you don't need to be at 160 to enjoy it
that's the charm of HD

Day and night
in the sun in the rain
on freeways on main roads on secondary roads in town.
Simply brilliant, really good touring.
Comfort, torque, power and above all pleasure.
And the touch-sensitive GPS and radio are brilliant.

This bike is my dream and I'm currently taking my A licence at the age of 60
My question is the weight of the bike, especially for manoeuvring it at a standstill
Is there any method or other to let me know the best way?
Thank you in advance for an answer
Yours truly

On the other hand, there's no glovebox, despite what the journalists say, the space being taken up by the water tanks.
Well, I'll leave you to it and run off to order one. That's Harley for you... Rating : 5/5 Respond to Flhr73
brand certainly doesn't live up to its standards.
what are you to think of a new, top-of-the-range motorcycle with a 2-year warranty whose engine breaks after 20,000 km and only 8 months of use, with a repair that will require 5 weeks of downtime? no commercial gesture, it's a high price to pay for beauty!
in conclusion, if you take it on vacation, be sure to take out repatriation insurance Rating : 1/5 Respond to fred
