presentation of the RC 149 1966
Since Honda first entered the Isle of Man TT race with an RC142 in 1959, the brand has been particularly successful in the 125 cc class.
With the RC149, developed from the unreliable RC148, Soichiro's company launched the world's first 5-cylinder 125cc sports bike, introduced in 1966.
Equipped with a newly developed DOHC 4-stroke air-cooled five-cylinder engine, its maximum power output was 34 hp at a very high 20,500 rpm. The engine could rev up to 23,000 rpm.
Riding with Luigi Taveri, it won five of the nine races in the 125cc class this year and claimed the title. Honda was the first manufacturer to win in the first five categories (50cc, 125cc, 250cc, 350cc, 500cc).
