Naked

a beginner's bike and utility par excellence, this hard-working machine is a production staple. From training bike to CB 500 Cup, it does it all. The 8-valve twin may not be a model of smoothness, but it does have a fierce temperament when revved. It offers more mid-range torque than its segment rivals, but above all, it's a monster of reliability. Honda claims it can reach 300,000 kms. You don't have to go that far to enjoy it. City dwellers can use it for their daily commute as well as for a bit of fun, both with friends and in the Honda promotion dedicated to this model. Versatility, fun, and to make matters worse, the bike is super-economical, both in terms of maintenance and fuel consumption. The chassis copes with all riding styles, even sporty ones, without flinching. The same goes for the braking, which is adequate whatever the use. The main complaint comes from the rear shock absorbers, which are more detrimental to comfort than to efficiency. Agile and maneuverable in town as well as in sport, the CB 500 has benefited since 1998 from an S version to transform itself into a small tourer. Unappealing because of its ordinary looks, it's certainly one of the best tools for discovering motorcycling.

French Fazerman Model 1994
It's a bike that I knew would be good, and whose reputation is well established. Having always ridden Yamaha sportbikes, I wanted an all-round bike that could fetch bread and go to work. When I bought it, I can say that my sensations were beyond what I had imagined. It's an exceptional motorcycle, exceptionally reliable, with lightning agility and a little 500cc heart, but it blew me away with its acceleration and revs, even though it's only a twin-cylinder. Foolproof safety, forgiving of mistakes, it's the bike for all types of rider! On economy, up to the point of running out of fuel, I covered 425 km (the reserve is very small, so as soon as it signals, don't delay refuelling). The only "little" fault is a seat that breaks after 200km ++ This bike is a legend, and richly deserved Rating : 5/5
French Hiigaaro Model 2000
What can we say about it except that it's the best motorcycle in the world? It's playful, inexpensive in both maintenance and insurance, reliable, fun to ride, and capable of taking you to work every morning. Quite simply, it does it all. I've had it for 1 year and I don't regret my purchase, although in 2019 I could have gone for something more modern. But no, once you've tried it, you can't get rid of it. And in my opinion, it's the best driving school around. Rating : 5/5
French Chris03 Model 1998
Super-reliable motorcycle. Almost 40,000 km and, apart from normal maintenance, absolutely no problems.
Very easy to ride, with impeccable roadholding even in "arsouille" mode. The presence of a passenger doesn't seem to affect its performance. Just the seat, which could do with more comfort, and a useful fuel gauge.

Track bikes, courier bikes, leisure bikes, women's bikes, auto school bikes, stunt bikes, travel bikes, etc...
In use, a real camel (4'6 liters per 100), in maintenance it's only happiness for the wallets in skin of herisson (tires those are 50 with box, imagine the price) a distribution to 100000kms (record of this engine 330000kms). In mode arsouille frankly it moves, very good sensations, well enough to eat wankers in sports. In duo it's not so good, the suspension feels like a racket in big chaos (unpleasant), in solo mode it's okay. I've got an ixrace pot that's too noisy, but very nice sounding. I keep it for safety reasons, as the crateus can hear me when I arrive. I like the precision of the front drivetrain, even if the fork is soft.
It vibrates at a certain speed, but that's acceptable. Braking is okay, but of course there are no double discs. Basically, it's a basic bike, but to tell you the truth, it can do everything.
I've had bigger bikes, but I prefer this kind of displacement, the ideal compromise.
In any case, don't hesitate, you'll lose more money with this kind of bike: between 800 e and 1200e, you've got something decent.
Basically, the original model will satisfy you, and then some.
A guy said on the net that a 500 cb never fails, and it's true.
I hesitated for a long time over this purchase, I should have bought it before. Until now, I've never been a motorcyclist.
But this has been my everyday bike since February.
Bonne route à tous.

French Math Model 1999
Hello everyone, I bought a 1999 cb 500 with 47000 km. I didn't pay much for it and I'm happy with it, but it needs a little touching up (rust spots, peeling paint in places). So I did the necessary touch-ups, but now I've still got the collector to do, which is pretty rusty. I'd like to know if I can disassemble it without risk, or is it better to clean it directly on the bike? I'm thinking of sanding it down and painting it with 900-degree thermal paint - is that a good idea? And also change the muffler for a better look and noise if you have any opinions or feedback I'm interested
Thanks in advance :)

I got my license a week ago. Before I got my license, I was looking for a cheap motorcycle in terms of insurance and maintenance. I was recommended the 500 cb.
I found a used one from 1996
65000km... 1000 euros, the best! A few scratches but 3 times nothing and well maintained. i've been driving it for 1 week today, and it's been a real pleasure. 34hp unfortunately but perfect for learning nervous from 6500/tours pretty for a bike that's still 18 years old. I regret nothing it cost me nothing and it's perfect. I put a 14 sprocket on it to get more revs and more rpm, because the flange really does the trick ^^
Despite that, I had a lot of fun on this bike and I'm not disappointed!
I can't wait 2 years to get it unstuck :-)

I had a CB500 about ten years ago. I was happy with it, but after 2 years, I sold it to buy a Hornet: the sirens of its "40hp plus" were too loud! But how many times have I used its 97hp? So, this year, 2012, I'm back to my old loves: a CB500S from 2000, with 40,000km on the clock and in perfect condition, is in my garage: a 45-tooth ring gear (as opposed to the original 40) and Hornet-like revs have appeared. Fuel consumption, handling, reliability, a nice engine, inexpensive maintenance and insurance, and practical aspects (center stand, under-seat trunk, storage compartments in the fairing, etc.) are its (very) strong points. A somewhat hard seat and average rear shocks are its weak points. The scales are tipping furiously in the "right" direction! Happy riding, Julian. Rating : 5/5

Hello, I too have had this bike for 11 years now. I bought it with 17,000kms, vintage 1997 and I'm at 100,000kms riding it every day to go to work, summer and winter, and it's all original, even the pot. No surprises, no quirks, RAZ...
It's my first big cube and I don't regret my purchase.
Dismayed, I'm thinking of changing motorcycles to spare her a little, perhaps taking on Honda's new NC700S, hoping to be as satisfied as the Cb500 or Gladius.
I'd recommend this bike to beginners and experienced riders alike, and I can tell you it's a real player.

Hello,

I own a 2000 CB, it had 8574 km, in 4 months I've covered about 4000 km, so I've made up my mind about it. Well, it's a real pleasure, I find it comfortable (well, it's true, I have my own seat), the engine... quite sufficient, I find it smooth enough, no need to rev it up, especially within the authorized limits... In terms of maintenance, pfff, pinuts, strict minimum, insurance idem, fuel consumption if I drive quietly (respecting the limits), I get to 370 km before reserve !!! I think young people will find it a bit too much, but with my reflexes it's more than enough. I think I'll keep it for the rest of my life, and if it's indestructible, I'm not about to part with it. I'll have other bikes, that's for sure, but this one I couldn't part with. I'm drooling a bit over the new cb1100, but it's not in the same league, but we'll see. So, last word on my CB, one regret all the same !!! not to have had it sooner !!! Have a good trip and I'll pass on the \'V\'... best regards.

French rene Model 2003
A well-born, lively little medium-displacement bike. I had a second-hand model from 1998. It was replaced by the now defunct cbf500. It's a shame that Honda stopped producing such a medium-displacement, two-cylinder utility roadster for so long (7 years?). The NC700s has just been launched (680cm3 to be exact), but in a less comfortable position. The old 500 already had a modern, powerful engine (58hp), albeit too lively at high revs, and a bluffly easy chassis with very good brakes. The amortos were average, but thanks to a good seat, the whole thing was rather comfortable and stable at legal speeds. The (small) icing on the cake was the fact that there was already a practical storage compartment under the (tilting) seat. At last, you could equip this classic-looking motorcycle, with its legendary engine reliability, as you wished (city or touring). Rating : 5/5

I've had a CB500 for 1? years. It's from 2003 (last year of manufacture) and had only 760km!! and I got it for 2500? with bagster top case tank mat. What happiness. A real pleasure. Some will say that "this Brelon only has 60hp, that it's a calf" but I don't agree. I really enjoy riding it and still can't get enough of it ^^ I consider myself lucky to have one in such good condition. I'll keep it even if I have to get another bike one day! In fact, today she has 16500km on the odometer, the shock absorbers have gone soft, but she still runs like clockwork ;) long live the CB ! Rating : 5/5
I've had this bike since I got my licence, over 11 years, and I've covered 100,000km on it. It has a good 123,000km on the odometer. As Honda said, it's puncture-proof, nothing to complain about, no surprises. It's the perfect bike for learning, having fun and much more (for example, spoiling kooks with their big bikes). It's a real treat. And even though I've got an R6 and an FZ1 next to it, I still enjoy riding it. Rating : 5/5

bought a handful of peanuts (barely 3000€) she had 18000 kms;a 98 model with front and rear disc brakes. i put a home made potty on her...modified the air intake... i'm one of those who rides every day (real bikers!) and i can tell you that she amazes me every day. it's an easy bike par excellence, forgiving both youthful mistakes and confirmed blunders. As for the ar amortos, I'm planning to replace them with hagons (unbeatable value for money, according to many).plus, if you're a bit of a handyman/mechanic, maintenance is super basic, so super economical... I'll honestly have trouble changing them!
see you soon on the road, and above all, be careful and take measured risks!

that's it! I've finally bought my cb, having fallen under its spell at the driving test... Mine is from 99, it's the semi-clad version (CBS!) and it's yellow, in short, very attractive! 54,000km on the odometer. I've only done 70km (it's been 4 days since I got it!) but it's super smooth to drive and it's really peachy!!! the 130 is disconcertingly easy to aim!!! Be careful with the odometer! lol. But it's agile and pleasant! Voila! Rating : 5/5

175km/h?...at full throttle 4 maybe...mine "hits" +de200 (odometer).a pair of bitubo, 15w fork oil, 6mm shims on the fork springs and you're no longer afraid of anyone.it's an exellentissime becane, reliable, not greedy in energy and consumables.I almost changed it, fortunately, that didn't happen!
The same becane in 750cc and it would be perfect! especially for the duo where the "little" Cb proves to be a bit short...but with the speed limits you'd say....

Hi everyone!
I've had my CB 500 for 6 months now, bought it with 36000 KM. I'm really happy with it, no problems, just the usual maintenance. I've hit 190km/h, so the 175 makes me laugh. It's a really good bike to start with and get the hang of before moving on to something else. I'm planning to buy a Z 750, but I'm sure I won't be selling my CB 500, you get attached to that thing too quickly.
Cheers to you all and happy riding.

With over 65,000 kms on the clock, my '99 CBS stands head and shoulders above many a more powerful beaker in terms of rock-solid reliability, handling and an engine that just won't quit. After many journeys on all the roads of France, in the snow, in the sun, with 210 kms on the clock (!) on the toroute, on rides (more or less quiet) on mountain passes, or even in town, it has never failed me. Of course, I've already had my 900 CBRs do me on the outside when cornering, but the smile it puts on my lips is enough to make me happy. Apart from the battery regulator, which failed at 30,000, I've only had to change the consumables. Rust takes a liking to the fork tubes, and changing the amortos for quality components is a real plus. A gentle monster of the road, which will prove to you from the very first turns of the wheel that it can take you to the ends of the earth.
We hope to see you on one of these four, and we wish you all the best.

It's really a great bike... it doesn't consume anything (unless you're non stop at 10000tm) and it's not expensive to maintain! SMALL BUDGETS GO FOR IT! Cycle part is not bad: a little low from 4000 to 6000tm but then you feel it wants it. The torque, a little weak for my taste, makes me play with the selector and that I LOVE! Otherwise, overall comfort is there. It's like butter to drive, so it's great for beginners. It eats up the kilometers without flinching on either road or highway. Only drawbacks: vibrations around 140kmh and long journeys (over 300kms) a little tiring without a windscreen (the S version is a little more comfortable)
The sound of the twin-cylinder engine is a joy! I've had it for 1 year AND IT'S NOT NOW THAT I'M GOING TO CHANGE . bonne route à ts

the cb is huge! I've had it for a few months now, and the more I ride it, the more I like it: its engine pulls well (I removed a tooth from the gearbox output sprocket), it holds the road well if you have good rubbers (dulop gt501, and no problem rubbing your knee!), and it doesn't cost much to maintain, so don't hesitate! hi everyone! A little comment on cb taken to extremes... Indeed, a puncture-proof bike: I bought mine 25,000 kilometers ago, I now have more than 33,000 and it runs like a charm. Just to clarify, I ride very regularly with mine and I use it every day, and ... no problem. Mine doesn't really look like the original, but it's still the same bike. A friend of mine has his with over 60,000 kilometers on it, and he hangs the 200 (not the 175) with no problem. In fact, I'm up to 180 with my modifications...(sprocket, ring gear) so..
It's a really sima bike!

I bought mine (cb 500 s) in August 2004, just BEFORE I took my driving test... since then, it's been nothing but happiness. I ride it every day, even in the rain, and even when it's not snowing... It's a pure delight that only one indelicate motorist ruined for me by pushing me into the scenery while I was overtaking him..
Just so you know, I've already pushed it at over 180km/h, and I've recently eaten a gsxf 600 twice in a row on short 300 or 400-meter rushes... I wonder if the guy who had it before didn't tamper with a few things... ;-)
Anyway: great bike, on the road, freeway and secondary road...a real treat that lets you let off steam when you need to...one last thing...I know one with 327,000 kms on the clock !!!!!

The CB, more than a motorcycle, a mistress. Mine sleeps in the warmth of my hallway with its little 32,000 km (it's not even broken in yet!!), and what despair when my wife tells me "we're taking the car today because the weather's not so good". It's immortal, and as far as handling is concerned, I opted for Bridgestone BT 45s - they're cheap! The only worry I have is the rev counter (13000rpm it doesn't take them and yet that's what the needle says). ciao to all and bon route Rating : 5/5

Hi CBists. I've been having a blast on my CBS for the past 4 years. Nearly 60,000 on the clock, and still as much fun! It's a pity that Honda didn't see fit to provide it with real amortos (agony from 25,000!), and that some dealers are more interested in your wallet than your bike... She rides every day, in all weathers: watch out for rust spots on the manifolds and on certain corners of the frame. Make sure you give her good tires, she'll pay you back, especially on slippery surfaces! (Bridgestone average, Michelin expensive, Dunlop wears fast... it's up to you!) All in all, a motorcycle that outclasses all others, thanks to its economy, ease of use, reliability and ... the pleasure it gives you! See you on the marvellous bends that adorn our departementales. i bought my CB 3 weeks ago and I'm going to pick it up in 1 week. I'm young and my ecol bike was a CB and I have only one thing to say about the little Honda, it's got character and you really get a kick out of riding it while keeping control

i'm taking my driving test on monday, and i've bought a cb 500 straight away because at first i wanted a cbf but with their battery problems i've decided against it and what's more the cb is the tractor of the motorcycle, simply puncture-proof i've seen one with 271000 on the odometer and then the cb is a myth it's no longer a motorcycle

What can I say? What can I say? So many qualities (puncture-proof engine, low everyday costs (tires, brake pads, kit-chaine, gasoline) for a few shortcomings (chrome quality from 96/97 models onwards, perfectible rear shock absorbers). I bought an S and for 4 years it has never disappointed me. it may not have the 100hp of a hypersport, but when fitted with correct tyres it's nothing to be ashamed of :-) on the contrary, it leads the way more often than lags behind :-D I swapped the original bubble, Showas and pot for a Devil SB2, a high ermax +10 bubble and ohlins combo, as well as adopting the Honda lower fairing and fitted with Michelins Pilot Activ, which has been a joy since 8-). precision in curves, exemplary handling and sporty looks, not to mention the raucous Devil sound :-d Rating : 5/5
hi, i've had my cb for 4 years and i use it every day, it's really a treat, it goes everywhere (being reasonable, not in the chanps) and it offers nice sensations, for a 500. it allows to do top speed at nearly 200km/h (not 175), it's really a superb bike to start with! bonne route Rating : 5/5

it's a super bitch this CB... i solved the rear suspension problem by fitting EMC amortos which are adjustable in all directions. i also solved the carburetion problem by fitting 900 CBR carburettors and yoshimura camshafts and a micron circuit exhaust, i'm at 69.7 hp on the power bench. now the bandit 600s stay behind....... hi Rating : 5/5

Excellent machine! I've got an S, good protection, nice, dusty mill, good roadholding, inexpensive maintenance, ridiculous fuel consumption even when you're running into it. It's an ideal motorcycle, but I'm not going to part with it just yet. The more you ride it, the more you love it Rating : 5/5

the cb 500 is a very good bike and doesn't give anything back to a 600 bandit when accelerating, as long as you remove 1 or 2 teeth from the sprocket. What's more, since the cb is a basic bike, it's easy to maintain on your own. Otherwise, the chassi is fine, but you need to harden the rear end. Bonne route Rating : 5/5
