Motorcycle specifications HondaST 1300 PAN EUROPEAN 2017 The ship of empire

it's the end for the 1300 Pan-European. After a career of some fifteen years with no real changes, the GT will disappear with a few last examples in 2017. Euro4 leaves it only this last breath, and closes a long chapter. It's time for the ST to evolve, and significantly so. It's the oldest car in its segment, its technology is dated, but its prestige doesn't care. The Pan is one of those vessels where time and mileage have only grazed the hull. Because Pan-euro owners are more captains than pilots. Statistics show that these are motorcyclists whose average age and requirements invite them to leave the wooden planks of hypersports and curl up on machines whose degree of finish must be as high as their comfort. The price is a slap in the face, its driving pleasure a delight. The ST is designed to be ridden well, for a long time, with serenity, but without looking like a pensioner's bike. Positioned halfway between the VFR and the Goldwing, the ST aims to offer the advantages of both machines. Does it have what it takes? The 1300 Pan has improved handling thanks to a shorter wheelbase, but this poses a small problem: at high speeds, the vessel lacks stability, with the front end feeling a little unsteady; nothing dangerous, but not very pleasant - a shortcoming that the 1100 didn't have. Admittedly, the ST's clientele isn't keen on pushing it to its last km/h, but there's a slight feeling of frustration, a little taste of unfinished business. However, the 1300's agility is far superior to that of its predecessor, almost equaling the rigorous behavior of an FJR. There are several reasons for this: the chassis is now made of an aluminum frame whose design is close to that of a sports bike, and much lighter; the engine (still a V4) is advanced and contributes to rigidity. The riding position has also evolved. The rider is closer to the steering column, and the handlebars are wider and closer. As with BMWs, the seat height is adjustable. A nice touch. Well-protected by the bubble, which can be adjusted with precision and comfort, you can enjoy grand touring, but you can't help wanting to have a bit of fun when the road gets playful. Reassured by the Pan's ever-efficient, powerful and responsive braking (with combined ABS), we hasten to discover the engine, which has changed radically. As supple as ever (it picks up at 1,500 rpm in last gear), it seems to have plenty of vitamins in its pistons. It leaves theold 1100 in its wake, with a vigor that's as useful as it is enjoling. It drives the bike via a cardan shaft which, like the rest of the transmission, is beyond reproach.
design remains a matter of taste, but when it comes to the ST, Honda engineers designed it with a clear objective in mind: to be beautiful (it is), and for a very long time, as the lady is scheduled to be produced for a decade. That's the life the 1100 has had, and it's allowed the manufacturer to accumulate a wealth of information. Criticism (good or bad) guided the designers, who seem to have created an excellent model. Many details have been improved or even rethought, the list of options has been extended, and the machine's handling and engine are much more efficient (except at high speeds). All this with a concern for finish that remains true to Honda's reputation for seriousness. In fact, when it first appeared on the market, it had only one real competitor: the BMW R 1200 RT.

i used to ride a Yamaha FJR 1300 what a disappointment aesthetics very nice forget the rest it can't match the pane very desus
I've ridden a 1200 RT not bad except for reliability, which for me is essential. Unfortunately, people say a lot about this, so I'm keeping my Pane, and for me, despite all the new technology, the Pane isn't any better Rating : 5/5 Respond to T 31 Bridgeston
I've ridden R1150RT,K1300GT,R1200RT liquid,road King 1584....And well I'm back to the pan!!!!
A handlebar riser, a free engine... What happiness. A true Grand Tourer! Rating : 5/5 Respond to Brignairot
Now I ride a BMW 1200 RT , But it's not worth my Pan
My Pan was a Puch motorcycle. Unfortunately they don't make them any more, I hope that Honda will soon produce the same type of machine because I'd be the first to buy it Rating : 5/5 Respond to Dan
In the Paris region, I have an ST 1300, 5 years old and 60,000 km: zero problems
Two magnificent, comfortable, reliable machines....what more could you ask for?

Very reliable and beautiful bike, I intend to keep it for a long time Rating : 5/5 Respond to Eddy
Of course, we all agree that we're missing the sixth gear regulator and maybe a reverse gear to take off if we're on a bit of a slope
We tried out the 1200 RT this weekend and we're keeping the PAN..
Bonne route à tous gazzzz Rating : 5/5 Respond to FRANCKYBOURGOGNE
the weight of a dead donkey at the Stop, the weight of a bike as soon as it moves and that reverse gear it misses! otherwise a real treat for a young retiree and his wife, who doesn't want to get off the bike anymore :)
surprisingly uncomfortable at high speed, as if the bike were dancing or rolling on gravel. a real sofa for madame, who regrets nothing. small modification with handlebar support to gain a few centimetres and comfort, that's all. here's to cool, twisty roads

First pan new in 2010, sold for professional reasons. I've just climbed back on my first love 8 years later, the only problem is that she's aged since then and is very difficult to move because of the weight.
But it's still my favorite Rating : 5/5 Respond to Mario

At standstill, however, the bike is tricky to manoeuvre. On slopes and hills, it's impossible to move on your own. Rating : 5/5 Participate in the conversation
- My question: is the PAN 1300 suitable for a small person? ( or is it adaptable? )
I have a TDM850 that can't be lowered, which is a real shame.
I'm looking for a comfortable, safe, reliable motorcycle with good protection and easy handling...
Thanks!

As a former owner of a k1600 gt, I ended up throwing in the towel because of too many electronic problems, so I went back to my previous bike and bought a new pan. it's top-notch, with reliability, range, protection, integrated panniers and rock-solid reliability
All it needs is a 6-speed gearbox and greater stability at high speeds

with a k 1600 gt between the 2.The comparison is quickly made 8000 euros difference, a fuel consumption of 6.5 liters on the bm, perfectible protection on the bm, very wide saddlebags that get in the way when you're on the move, and a host of electronic problems that have polluted me throughout my ownership of this bike. It's a shame, because on the k 1600, the braking was sharper than on the pan, and the handling was imperial at high speeds Rating : 5/5 Respond to raoul
so you'll go farther, longer and with fewer maintenance worries with the pan! Bon voyage!

I currently own a CB 1300 but I would like to change for a St1300 my big question is the comfort of the passenger. My wife and I are 1.80m tall
If anyone has any feedback in this area, I'd love to hear from you
Thank you Rating : 4/5 Respond to Pinponfg44
First of all reliability, apart from consumables, 2 headlight bulbs have been changed and that's it.
This bike is truly an excellent European tourer.
The engine is smooth, quiet, torquey and powerful when you want it to be. This engine is quite frugal on the road, at 6 liters or 5.5 liters on a cool ride.
equipment-wise, there's not much missing (I had a 12v socket and heated wrists). missing are traction control and heated saddles to be perfect in winter.
the sometimes-criticized chassis is excellent, and only the consequent point limits the tempo when you're approaching the limits. but frankly, you've already got to go hard.
braking is almost perfect, suspension is top-notch, this bike is very comfortable for the rider and even better for the passenger.
The rider position is very slightly dynamic, which I appreciated.
The electric bubble is appreciated, but could be a little wider.
The luggage capacity is considerable, and the 2 pockets are spacious.
Even after 13 years in the catalog, it's still a very safe bet in the European GT segment, and right on target. Rating : 4/5 Respond to fred

i drove the BMW 1200 RT: the weight difference didn't affect me, but in acceleration ... you have to turn the handle to get going.
I rode the Triunph Tager 1200 and the Kawa Versys 1000 ... too light ... but comfortable.
My pan ... irreplaceable, if I had to change it ... I wouldn't know what to get. I ride a lot, alone or as a duo, and it's a treat...

ideal for long trips, with a smooth, torquey engine that's extremely reliable.
as for stability, I've never had any problems at high speeds, either alone or in a duo.
not being tall, at 1.74 m and 57 springs, I had no trouble getting the hang of it.
very good machine at an affordable price.

I'm 57 years old and my first bike is a Pan 1300 ST from 2007, I'm delighted, of course today many machines surpass it but it remains a good bike just a little heavy I crashed twice at the stop my foot slipped without gravity for me and for the machine. An endearing bike economic reliable and comfortable.
I put over 30,000 km on mine in less than a year.
Solo and duo.
As for stability
i've got a perfect 3kg Pilote Road 3 mount and I remove the top case when I'm riding alone.
I'm a rookie, but I'm going to work with my bike and I'd like to change machines, but just to change because my Pan gives me satisfaction.
I hope to have helped you in your choice

To start with this bike, quite frankly, you won't have any problems if you follow certain rules. Be careful where you park! slopes, gravel, loose ground, I have a 1300 and I've had experience of bad parking.
As far as handling is concerned, it's no heavier than a moped with the torque of a backhoe, but be careful not to overuse it, because in a duo, restarting in second gear can be tricky and cause a fall. As for the rest, if you're careful, you won't have to worry about a thing, thanks to top-notch braking... whether solo or duo, I'd really recommend it, and I wish you a safe journey. I've had a 2006 ST 1300 for 2 years, with 60000 km, and I'm delighted with it.
A friend of mine has the same car, but from 2007. I've noticed that the exhaust noise isn't the same. On his, the noise is muffled and muffled \"Wrrrrrrrrr\". Mine's more "Brrrrrrrrrrr", but apart from that, the whistling is the same. The mechanics told me that Honda changed the engine noise according to the year for safety reasons!
Do you have any experience on this subject?
Thank you

I'm on my 2nd pan euro, the 1100 and since 2012 the 1300. I'm short, 1.69 m, and the admittedly considerable weight of the beast isn't a problem.
On the contrary, it means I have to be careful when handling it at standstill. I've never had any problems.
Personally, I've got into the habit of handling it from the right-hand side, with the side stand out (safety)
Don't stick to the machine, on the contrary, move away from it, and that way everything's fine.
I've kept the original saddle but fitted a handlebar riser.

I had a PAN 1300 which did 270.000kms without any problem.
The problem of swaying, I solved it (a little) with Metzeler Z6 by inflating them to 3.2kgs at the front and 2.9kgs at the rear. I drove it like a sports car (I followed Ducats at ease).
The tires are dead at 6600kms front and rear. The brake pads need to be changed every 10,000kms. I changed the 3 discs at 200,000kms because they were under rated.
Super machine.
I have a BMW K1600GT for now, but I think I'll go back to a new PAN. Too disappointed with the BMW.
The PAN goes faster in top speed than the BMW(many won't believe me)... I won't say how fast!!!

Honda certainly has the ability to design a modern pan capable of putting all the competition to the sword.
Why don't they? That the question Rating : 3/5 Respond to docdudu
Price-wise, with all options (custom seat and backrest, top case with brake light and luggage rack, heated grips, hand deflectors, armrests, decorative plates but without radio) it cost me 15500â'¬ inc. Fuel consumption around 7l/100. I'm 62 (1.73m and 67kgs) and have been riding for 40 years, and I think the Pan is the best bike I've ever owned.

As a couple, with my wife behaving really well, I don't notice this inconvenience at my cruising speed (140mph), or even when accelerating to overtake, I push the handle a little.... and bang out a rapid 180km/hour, to calmly return to my initial speed.
Honestly, a real pleasure. i've had it for 6 months, 2006 model. Before that, I had a 1800 GL, which I kept for a year and did 24,000 kms, and before that, I had a K 1200 LT FT for a year on my Gold.
No disappointment when it comes to my two ex-machines. A plus for the "K", its fuel consumption on the road, with two people, loaded and at sustained speed: 5.7 L/100, compared with 6.5 L/ for the Gold and at 160 km/h. I'd certainly go back for a Gold 2012 version, or the next one if the manufacturer replaces the air bag (which seems useless and expensive) with a few liters in the tank. an extra 5 liters is perfectly feasible, Mr Honda. See you soon Rating : 4/5 Respond to Corben Dallas

Super bike, economical, reliable, 5l/100
Only complaint is the weight when stopped
For stability on the freeway, use the rear-view mirror and fairing deflectors (approx. 300€ for 2 sets)
Handling is much improved
I intend to keep it for a while longer, as I've tried several bikes but haven't found anything better

immediate test at legal speeds in the down position or 2/3 cm up - it's fine!
test ride alone with the top case on a jet helmet in temperatures of 3° at over 200°, bubble raised 5/6 cm, impeccable. look over the bubble and the wind passes over the helmet (my size 186 cm), no turbulence or unpleasant noise in the helmet
which confirms the test I did riding an Ermax from Deauville, although narrower, which solved the problem of discomfort in the helmet by positioning the bubble to look over it-
Mr Honda, please deliver your motorcycles with effective bubbles, especially at the price of your machines
now I just need to get my handlebar riser to be as comfortable as possible - all this bought abroad

reproach: the high price and the poorly designed bubble that gives whistles and swirls that I didn't have on my Deauville with Honda's high bubble, so Mr. Honda revise your copy to give us a bubble worthy of this bike so that we don't have to look through it to get good protection, my height 186 cm. 1) the mirrors are a little too low for my taste
2) average fuel consumption of 7 liters at moderate speeds. My 1200 Bandit was only 6 liters
3) its price, but what a pleasure to ride it... Rating : 5/5 Respond to Philippe
Hyper-comfortable: long rides without fatigue
Good road-holding and heading on the latest models, provided you keep the windshield in the low position when riding fast, which provides ample, near-perfect protection (contrary to what journalists keep saying, who would do better to try out the models again instead of endlessly copying the same comments)
Reserve the medium or high windshield position for rainy days at slow speeds
Put round-section rear tires, suitcases and a topcase on a CBR XX 1100, renowned for its exemplary handling, and you'll see if there's any aerodynamic flutter at speed.
