Motorcycle specifications HondaST 1300 PAN EUROPEAN 2017 The ship of empire

Touring

it's the end for the 1300 Pan-European. After a career of some fifteen years with no real changes, the GT will disappear with a few last examples in 2017. Euro4 leaves it only this last breath, and closes a long chapter. It's time for the ST to evolve, and significantly so. It's the oldest car in its segment, its technology is dated, but its prestige doesn't care. The Pan is one of those vessels where time and mileage have only grazed the hull. Because Pan-euro owners are more captains than pilots. Statistics show that these are motorcyclists whose average age and requirements invite them to leave the wooden planks of hypersports and curl up on machines whose degree of finish must be as high as their comfort. The price is a slap in the face, its driving pleasure a delight. The ST is designed to be ridden well, for a long time, with serenity, but without looking like a pensioner's bike. Positioned halfway between the VFR and the Goldwing, the ST aims to offer the advantages of both machines. Does it have what it takes? The 1300 Pan has improved handling thanks to a shorter wheelbase, but this poses a small problem: at high speeds, the vessel lacks stability, with the front end feeling a little unsteady; nothing dangerous, but not very pleasant - a shortcoming that the 1100 didn't have. Admittedly, the ST's clientele isn't keen on pushing it to its last km/h, but there's a slight feeling of frustration, a little taste of unfinished business. However, the 1300's agility is far superior to that of its predecessor, almost equaling the rigorous behavior of an FJR. There are several reasons for this: the chassis is now made of an aluminum frame whose design is close to that of a sports bike, and much lighter; the engine (still a V4) is advanced and contributes to rigidity. The riding position has also evolved. The rider is closer to the steering column, and the handlebars are wider and closer. As with BMWs, the seat height is adjustable. A nice touch. Well-protected by the bubble, which can be adjusted with precision and comfort, you can enjoy grand touring, but you can't help wanting to have a bit of fun when the road gets playful. Reassured by the Pan's ever-efficient, powerful and responsive braking (with combined ABS), we hasten to discover the engine, which has changed radically. As supple as ever (it picks up at 1,500 rpm in last gear), it seems to have plenty of vitamins in its pistons. It leaves theold 1100 in its wake, with a vigor that's as useful as it is enjoling. It drives the bike via a cardan shaft which, like the rest of the transmission, is beyond reproach.

design remains a matter of taste, but when it comes to the ST, Honda engineers designed it with a clear objective in mind: to be beautiful (it is), and for a very long time, as the lady is scheduled to be produced for a decade. That's the life the 1100 has had, and it's allowed the manufacturer to accumulate a wealth of information. Criticism (good or bad) guided the designers, who seem to have created an excellent model. Many details have been improved or even rethought, the list of options has been extended, and the machine's handling and engine are much more efficient (except at high speeds). All this with a concern for finish that remains true to Honda's reputation for seriousness. In fact, when it first appeared on the market, it had only one real competitor: the BMW R 1200 RT.

A motorcycle in capital letters, stable, comfortable, with unhesitating engine response and a great deal of gratitude, that's La Moto. Rating : 5/5
French Gilou0276 Model 2014
I've owned a 1300 Pan with ABS since 2014. It's a great bike and very comfortable to ride. I agree that it's a bit heavy to maneuver at a standstill with my small frame (1.71m) but you get used to it very well. On the other hand, where I disagree, as you mentioned in the weak points, is its lack of stability at high speed. This is not at all the case with my 2014 machine, because even at very high speeds this bike is on a rail and doesn't move. There's no weaving and no front-end shedding like on the first Pan Europeans. Hello motorcyclist Rating : 5/5
French Seb32 Model 2010
Apart from the weight at standstill, which is substantial but no longer noticeable after the first few km/h, it's almost perfect. Perfect roadholding, almost complete protection against rain and wind, discreet but voluminous luggage, an engine that's not too brutal but that delivers on demand, and of course rare reliability. On its own, it's almost a sports bike, but as a duo, it's close to a Goldwing. It's my first motorcycle since the A2 to A upgrade, after having had the excellent Kawasaki VN900 in a clamped version. I don't know if it'll be my last, but I'm likely to be riding it for a long time. Rating : 5/5
French Patrick Model 2002
Bought used at 8500 kms, today 140000 kms CLEAN, absolutely no intervention (neither mechanical, nor electrical, nor bodywork) Very very reliable motorcycle. Accepts "cushy" driving and sporty driving from one foot chock to the other on the rear or front wheel, no problem, it accepts... In short, a GT that's hard to replace (if not impossible) Rating : 5/5
French pan13 Model 2010
Very good tourer. At the heavy stop +300kg I put green air filter, iridium spark plug, drain valve, washable oil filter, GI-PRO speedometer, angled valves for tire pressure Only hitch: lacks a gearbox 6, cruise control 5 (option at 2000€ and found only in the USA), heated grips (options 170€), speedometer (not optional but GI-Pro at 100€). Rating : 5/5
i own a ST1300A 2005 bought new,,,18 years on the road and 166000km on the odometer superb mechanical maintenance and reliability,,,added a V stream windshield seat modification ...change the battery once the original has worked 16 years, yes the weight at rest difficult for short legs,,but once in motion very easy to ride....and at 65 years it will be my last Motorcycle for several more years Rating : 4/5

French Model 2017
I'm 64 years old, I bought my pan in 2008 with 30000km. 15 years later, with 170,000 km under my belt, I'm amazed at the solidity of this bike. despite frequent peaks at 180/200 kmh and wearing out my tires on the sidewalls in 6/7000 km, as well as the brake linings, I've only had the minimum maintenance, i.e. oil change every 15,000, spark plugs and filters every 25,000. I've changed the fuel hose between the 2 tanks, 3 fork seals and I need to consider the front discs. Its biggest flaw is maneuverability when stopped
Very reliable, fast and economical bike.

i've been riding an ST 1300 A for eight years now, and there's nothing better out there
i used to ride a Yamaha FJR 1300 what a disappointment aesthetics very nice forget the rest it can't match the pane very desus
I've ridden a 1200 RT not bad except for reliability, which for me is essential. Unfortunately, people say a lot about this, so I'm keeping my Pane, and for me, despite all the new technology, the Pane isn't any better

I bought a new pan european in 2011. 70000 km later I got rid of it for a new bmw k1600 gt! 2 years later I fired the BM too many breakdowns, zero reliability and I took one of the latest models released is a pan of 2017 and only 6400 km. Rating : 5/5

I had for 5 years 1300 ST and made 225000 km with no cost, but due to an accident I had to part unfortunately

Now I ride a BMW 1200 RT , But it's not worth my Pan

My Pan was a Puch motorcycle. Unfortunately they don't make them any more, I hope that Honda will soon produce the same type of machine because I'd be the first to buy it

Superb tourer and in fact becomes almost a ballerina once started...you have to be careful at standstill, but like any good tourer, the rest is pullman...no vibration, only smoothness, and darting only due to the top case in solo....like many other motorcycles I've had before....You've got to stop saying it's poorly designed...it's nonsense journalists...of course Mr Honda doesn't know how to make motorcycles everyone knows it !!!! Super bike! I agree with the guys about the missing reverse gear and the weight at standstill, but otherwise it's all good! motorcycles should go 20km/h faster than cars, as I was practically ordered to do when I took my driving test! Rating : 4/5

This bike is so cool. I've got an old granny from 2002 that makes me and my partner very happy
Of course, we all agree that we're missing the sixth gear regulator and maybe a reverse gear to take off if we're on a bit of a slope
We tried out the 1200 RT this weekend and we're keeping the PAN..

the weight of a dead donkey at the Stop, the weight of a bike as soon as it moves and that reverse gear it misses! otherwise a real treat for a young retiree and his wife, who doesn't want to get off the bike anymore :)
surprisingly uncomfortable at high speed, as if the bike were dancing or rolling on gravel. a real sofa for madame, who regrets nothing. small modification with handlebar support to gain a few centimetres and comfort, that's all. here's to cool, twisty roads

Pan de 2002 abs bulle électrique etc grise 115000 km toujours partante 500 km d'affileS juste arrêt essence et rien pas mal aux pattes aux bras et pourtant 59 ballets . Great bike for chomping at the bit. Inflation pressures of 2.9 and 3.2 improve the floatation when riding fast or even very fast... but when there's no wind it doesn't move and if you stay within the recommended speeds, no worries. As for the weight, as long as it's moving, it's a bike. You can load up the mule and there's plenty of room. It's got a great future ahead of it. 5.5 l condo, if you don't play the donkey...for me, there's nothing better than the competition. i just bought a Pan 1300 ST at the end of 2017 and I'm a bit apprehensive about stopping it because of its weight. It's been 42 years since I got off my BMW R50 and what a change! The weight scares me when manoeuvring at low speed. How to overcome anxiety at 69.... Rating : 4/5
The Pan-European is an incredibly balanced machine. As soon as you're on the road, the weight is forgotten. But it doesn't disappear. The machine demands anticipation, and a distinct inertia when changing angles is unavoidable. However, the homogeneity of the whole makes for a delectable ride.
At standstill, however, the bike is tricky to manoeuvre. On slopes and hills, it's impossible to move on your own.

Hello momo and hello to all, happy owner of a second pan of 2009 since last July (I regretted too much the first) I installed a booster seat and there finished lumbar pains (at 64 years it happens) from the top of but 1.80m the position naturally incited me to a much cooler driving (the 80km/h arrives), an investment that I do not regret and which does not modify in any way its velocity from the first turns of wheel.Bonne route à tous. Hi, I'm 1.65 m tall.
- My question: is the PAN 1300 suitable for a small person? ( or is it adaptable? )
I have a TDM850 that can't be lowered, which is a real shame.
I'm looking for a comfortable, safe, reliable motorcycle with good protection and easy handling...
Thanks!

Hello, I agree with Raoul
As a former owner of a k1600 gt, I ended up throwing in the towel because of too many electronic problems, so I went back to my previous bike and bought a new pan. it's top-notch, with reliability, range, protection, integrated panniers and rock-solid reliability
All it needs is a 6-speed gearbox and greater stability at high speeds

Following on from a 600 CBF, I bought a 2002 Pan that had hardly been ridden at all. Aside from concerns about the bike's weight, it's a total pleasure to ride, even in urban areas. I don't feel the float on the freeway, although I've tried!
So: pleasure motorcycling.

Hello everyone Well, I re-signed for a new pan this afternoon
with a k 1600 gt between the 2.The comparison is quickly made 8000 euros difference, a fuel consumption of 6.5 liters on the bm, perfectible protection on the bm, very wide saddlebags that get in the way when you're on the move, and a host of electronic problems that have polluted me throughout my ownership of this bike. after 5 years of riding a BM 1150 Rt, which literally ate away at my hand joints because of the constant micro-vibrations, I returned to my old Honda love and bought a 2006 Pan European. A magnificent engine that runs smoothly, consumes no oil and even after 60000 Km without any technical problem gives me pleasure every day. Instead of the recommended BT 020 tires, I fitted Michelin Pilot road 4s. The bike is transformed, even at high speed. I don't think I'll change, but if I do, for whatever reason, I'll choose the Pan European 2016 without hesitation. Willypan Rating : 5/5

i bought a pan 13 new in 2007 and sold it in 2013 after 153,000 km of loyal service.

First of all reliability, apart from consumables, 2 headlight bulbs have been changed and that's it.

This bike is truly an excellent European tourer.
The engine is smooth, quiet, torquey and powerful when you want it to be. This engine is quite frugal on the road, at 6 liters or 5.5 liters on a cool ride.
equipment-wise, there's not much missing (I had a 12v socket and heated wrists). missing are traction control and heated saddles to be perfect in winter.
the sometimes-criticized chassis is excellent, and only the consequent point limits the tempo when you're approaching the limits. but frankly, you've already got to go hard.
braking is almost perfect, suspension is top-notch, this bike is very comfortable for the rider and even better for the passenger.
The rider position is very slightly dynamic, which I appreciated.
The electric bubble is appreciated, but could be a little wider.
The luggage capacity is considerable, and the 2 pockets are spacious.
Even after 13 years in the catalog, it's still a very safe bet in the European GT segment, and right on target.

Hi there,
i drove the BMW 1200 RT: the weight difference didn't affect me, but in acceleration ... you have to turn the handle to get going.
I rode the Triunph Tager 1200 and the Kawa Versys 1000 ... too light ... but comfortable.
My pan ... irreplaceable, if I had to change it ... I wouldn't know what to get. I ride a lot, alone or as a duo, and it's a treat...

ideal for long trips, with a smooth, torquey engine that's extremely reliable.

I've owned two of the three bikes you mention, Jusdemule. I got my license at 60 and started with a Suzuki DL650, marvelous handling and a fantastic engine, but a bit limited for long trips (>500 km) with a duo. I switched to the Pan 1300, which I only kept for a few months: heavy, not very well balanced with a high center of gravity (the V4 engine), a tiring position for the hips and hands. A very good engine, but not a fun bike. I switched to the Gold, much more maneuverable despite its weight, and incredibly comfortable for long trips. You have to define your program. The GT makes sense if you travel a lot. Do you like total protection? Do you travel as a duo? Straight roads or tight bends? Good or bad road surfaces? If not, why not buy a second-hand trail bike, even an old one like a Transalp, Versys or v Strom, which will give you the chance to gain experience as a biker, and then move on to something bigger. You won't lose any money because it's easy to resell, and I bet you'll even want to keep your trail bike as well as your GT, which I really should have done. The proof is that I'm buying a BM 650 GS to do what Gold doesn't really like. Rating : 3/5

Hello
To start with this bike, quite frankly, you won't have any problems if you follow certain rules. Be careful where you park! slopes, gravel, loose ground, I have a 1300 and I've had experience of bad parking.
As far as handling is concerned, it's no heavier than a moped with the torque of a backhoe, but be careful not to overuse it, because in a duo, restarting in second gear can be tricky and cause a fall. As for the rest, if you're careful, you won't have to worry about a thing, thanks to top-notch braking... whether solo or duo, I'd really recommend it, and I wish you a safe journey.

Hello,

I'm on my 2nd pan euro, the 1100 and since 2012 the 1300. I'm short, 1.69 m, and the admittedly considerable weight of the beast isn't a problem.
On the contrary, it means I have to be careful when handling it at standstill. I've never had any problems.
Personally, I've got into the habit of handling it from the right-hand side, with the side stand out (safety)
Don't stick to the machine, on the contrary, move away from it, and that way everything's fine.

I've kept the original saddle but fitted a handlebar riser.

Best regards,

Hello
I had a PAN 1300 which did 270.000kms without any problem.
The problem of swaying, I solved it (a little) with Metzeler Z6 by inflating them to 3.2kgs at the front and 2.9kgs at the rear. I drove it like a sports car (I followed Ducats at ease).
The tires are dead at 6600kms front and rear. The brake pads need to be changed every 10,000kms. I changed the 3 discs at 200,000kms because they were under rated.
Super machine.
I have a BMW K1600GT for now, but I think I'll go back to a new PAN. Too disappointed with the BMW.
The PAN goes faster in top speed than the BMW(many won't believe me)... I won't say how fast!!!

I sold it for a BMW RT 1200 RT , because of criticisms about its handling and its declining rating. The BM is 1OO kg lighter , which changes the handling problems . The Pan is still a very fine motorcycle, in terms of comfort and finish. The BMW has no faults, apart from its 2hp or dyane 6 engine noise, it doesn't make its weight felt, remains stable at a standstill, and straightens up like a ludion, but the electronics are hardly reliable and can play nasty tricks on you... and expensive, although the after-sales service remains efficient and accommodating.
Honda certainly has the ability to design a modern pan capable of putting all the competition to the sword.
Why don't they? That the question

I've had a new Pan 1300 for 6 months (6000kms) and I'm delighted with it. Very comfortable and well finished. A delight on the road. Very maneuverable and easier than my previous Deauville 700. No swaying, as long as you pay scrupulous attention to tire pressure (2.9 front and rear). This summer I made stages of over 400 kms with passenger and luggage without any fatigue or difficulty, even in the Alpine passes.
Price-wise, with all options (custom seat and backrest, top case with brake light and luggage rack, heated grips, hand deflectors, armrests, decorative plates but without radio) it cost me 15500â'¬ inc. Fuel consumption around 7l/100. I'm 62 (1.73m and 67kgs) and have been riding for 40 years, and I think the Pan is the best bike I've ever owned.

Good, sound machine. It's true, a "little weave" at high speed (180 km/h), but radars are constantly "increasing" and almost everywhere, so all it takes is a normal passenger 1.65 cm/ 62 kg (sandbag) - sorry ladies.... - and it all disappears. As for me, I'm more likely to ride solo than with a partner, because I blend in.
As a couple, with my wife behaving really well, I don't notice this inconvenience at my cruising speed (140mph), or even when accelerating to overtake, I push the handle a little.... and bang out a rapid 180km/hour, to calmly return to my initial speed.
Honestly, a real pleasure. i've had it for 6 months, 2006 model. Before that, I had a 1800 GL, which I kept for a year and did 24,000 kms, and before that, I had a K 1200 LT FT for a year on my Gold.
No disappointment when it comes to my two ex-machines. A plus for the "K", its fuel consumption on the road, with two people, loaded and at sustained speed: 5.7 L/100, compared with 6.5 L/ for the Gold and at 160 km/h. I'd certainly go back for a Gold 2012 version, or the next one if the manufacturer replaces the air bag (which seems useless and expensive) with a few liters in the tank. an extra 5 liters is perfectly feasible, Mr Honda. Hello, the 1300's non-stability at over 150kmh compared to the 1100 has been proven, but a simple and effective remedy is possible: change the bike's trim.By adopting this racing technique (applied by a dealer in the Marne region of France), I climbed to over 200 km/h without any of those nasty eddies that destabilized the bike. But I believe, having had both, that the 1100 was much more accomplished, so let's give the 1300 time to mature, and in a few years it'll be on a par with its little sister. Rating : 5/5

before stopping the bike from 1999 to 2004 I had 3 st 1100 and it was perfect reliability and homogeneity to make dream the bmw istes (of which I am momentarily); inevitably tempted to return to HONDA can one know if there was a campaign of recall or modification to regulate this concern of stability which in any case seems real?
It's hard for Honda, but all they had to do was not get customers used to perfection!

Proud of my machine nothing to say 48000 km
it's not very unstable at 210 215 and
with the high bubble alone and top case with wind if not with two nothing else it is made for that 230 comfortable with one hand very little wind with the high bubble

very maneuverable in town and good roadholding
perfect braking, a real bike

too much bad publicity on this bike you have to ride it to give your opinion criticism is easy

motorcycle that is hotter in the leg than the st-1100, the digital dials should be darker hard to read in the sun. it consumes like my st-1100 (1999) is about 5liter to 100 at 120k/h. It is comfortable and more maneuverable than the st-1100 but more fragile to the wind I have already driven 11500km since May it is a model 2005 Rating : 5/5

After owning 3 1100 STs, I can confirm the excellence of the 1300 ST (Bridgestone pavement). I cover 23,000 km a year, and in winter I install the deck Liveliness, sobriety and comfort are present at all times. However, Mr Honda, couldn't you increase the caster angle and optimize the evacuation of hot engine air for the summer? Rating : 5/5

I'm thinking of buying a pan european 1300. Its lack of stability at high speed, which I read about everywhere, scares me a bit, especially as I'm not a really experienced biker. What do you mean by high speed? Any advice or suggestions? Thanks Rating : 5/5

i've had mine for a week now, and it's just great. easy to ride, and i'm not an experienced biker. i just got off a deauville, and i was apprehensive about the weight, but when you're maneuvering by hand, it's completely forgotten. it's a perfectly balanced bike, as proof, i put it on the center stand more easily than the deauville which is much lighter. a biker without much experience shouldn't be afraid of this bike, except if he wants to play hard with the handle, there it causes, and it's better to watch the speedometer
bonne route à tous.

I'm lucky enough to be able to try out lots of machines of all styles and from all manufacturers
The Pan 1300 ABS I rode for 10,000 km blew me away
I'm a demanding person, but I can't find any fault with it, as long as you bear in mind that the beast weighs a full 330 kg
It's easy to handle and extremely stable when the tank is half-empty, and I never have to fill it up again.

I was the proud owner of the ST 1100 for 9 years. For the past 1 week, I've owned the ST 1300, May 2003 model, without ABS and electrically adjustable bubble. Today, I tried it for the first time in a duo with a bit of wind, bubble in high position, and original top case. It's a real ordeal, with so much turbulence between the 2 passengers. In my opinion, this turbulence is due to
1° the bubble is too high
2° the top case being too far back.

From '94 to '99 I had an ST1100, then for a change I wanted a sports bike, a 600 Yam R6, and since yesterday I've just gone back to the ST 1300, ... Fabulous, .... that's all. Rating : 5/5

I don't regret my choice of the 1300 ST, although I do have three shortcomings
1) the mirrors are a little too low for my taste
2) average fuel consumption of 7 liters at moderate speeds. My 1200 Bandit was only 6 liters
3) its price, but what a pleasure to ride it...

Superb machine, a little heavy when stationary, but very maneuverable once on the road (more maneuverable than the CBR XX 1100 I had before)
Hyper-comfortable: long rides without fatigue
Good road-holding and heading on the latest models, provided you keep the windshield in the low position when riding fast, which provides ample, near-perfect protection (contrary to what journalists keep saying, who would do better to try out the models again instead of endlessly copying the same comments)
Reserve the medium or high windshield position for rainy days at slow speeds
Put round-section rear tires, suitcases and a topcase on a CBR XX 1100, renowned for its exemplary handling, and you'll see if there's any aerodynamic flutter at speed.
