kawasaki's 1200 ZRX is one of those roadsters that doesn't shy away from fashion, nor from hot streetfighters. Time glides by without a scratch, even if there aren't many left to defend this classic style: Honda CB 1300, Yamaha XJR 1300 and Suzuki GSX 1400 remain the last to defend this bastion. But even for this steely mount for Gentleman Riders, it's sometimes wise to adapt, to evolve... and so the ZRX adopts many modifications for 2009.
far from the bleeding-edge impulsiveness of a Z 1000, the ZRX has been reworked without in any way denying its original spirit, that of the powerful machines of the '80s. And without deviating from its classy design, imbued with muscle and nostalgia. Retouching is light, caressing the line rather than modifying it. The new fork head is reminiscent of the old GPZ. The radiator gains new, massively styled scoops. The swingarm, still reinforced from below, adopts a simplified tubular profile. And despite its desire to keep its authentic values as intact as possible, it can't help but treat itself to a few modern goodies, such as crystal turn signals, an LED taillight, petal brake discs, Y-spoke wheels, and above all, the adoption of fuel injection (derived from that of the ZX-10R) for its big 4-cylinder.
this is not the only improvement to the engine. Improved cooling, revised cylinder head, larger valves, camshafts with different profiles and more efficient valve springs. All this for a power output of 110 hp, a good ten hp less than before. Strange, isn't it, in today's race for power, for a manufacturer to calm the ardor of a boiler. But on the ZRX, the maximum torque of 11 mkg is obtained 1,000 rpm earlier. Characteristically, the 4-legged will certainly be more manageable and even more available in this new version.
pre-orders for the 2009 version of the ZRX 1200 are already available, with delivery on February 1. The only small problem is that this model will be reserved for the Japanese market. There are no plans for its arrival in Europe.
