Motorcycle specifications Kawasaki1000 GTR 2004 Queen of the Tour

Touring

launched in 1986, the GTR has built a reputation as a carefree tourer. Aesthetically reworked in 1994, it's mainly the noise standards that have caused it trouble, scaring the life out of its once expressive engine. Not really detrimental for normal use - it's a gate with a passenger and freight: the machine struggles a little when called upon on the freeway. The chassis is efficient, but old-fashioned, and this is reflected in the weaving at high speeds.

Above all, the GTR is the archetypal tireless workhorse. Journalists have made no mistake, and it's the one you see everywhere on the road of the Tour de France. Although a little heavy at slow speeds, and handicapped by a tight turning radius, the GTR boasts impeccable roadholding, a highly protective fairing, excellent comfort, a practical and discreet drive shaft, record range thanks to the largest fuel tank on the market (28.5 L), and a sturdy pair of panniers (although not great aesthetically)... so find a GT for this price that offers as much! The aging Kawa tourer suffers mainly from its outdated design. For the rest, the GTR is one of the most efficient tools for the job. It may not look like much, but it knows how to roll up its sleeves.

Hello colleagues
It's not too complicated to write a positive review of our favourite bike, even if I have one or two minor complaints, such as overheating in hot weather, the weight when riding at low speed, and the difficulty of putting the bike on its centre stand, no doubt due to my arthritis problems, that's about it
Otherwise, it's a comfortable bike that I was able to buy for a ridiculous price and in magnificent condition
Just a few tires to change, and that's it
You don't get too tired after hundreds of kilometers on it
I don't ride as often as I used to, mainly at weekends, and that's just as well, because driving up the queues to go to work in Paris, especially with my suitcases, makes me afraid of hitting the mirrors
That may sound like a lot of criticism, but I love our garnet-red '98 1000 GTR with just over 50,000 kms on the clock
Bonne route à tous .

having owned 2 GTRs, I'm satisfied with a well-built, reliable motorcycle that's easy to maintain, with a range of 400km that's rare for a bike weighing nearly 300kg
heavy at low speeds, with its slightly reduced turning radius, it's better to anticipate manoeuvres in town, but it's a GT tourer by design

Hello, I recently bought my very young Kwa GTR 1000 cc. From 1999, it's a Bordeaux color. I've always been loyal to the brand, but I stopped riding two-wheelers about 30 years ago. I needed a machine worthy of the name to get back in the saddle. I'll be celebrating my 55th birthday in a few days. I fell in love with this bike. I'm getting ready to hit the road in a little while, heading for Annecy to visit my daughter - a 900 km ride! I plan to stop in Troyes, halfway along the road. I wish you a good trip too. JMP. I came to the GTR for my 50th birthday... and here we are, big doubts at the start, quite a few problems with it at the start, I redid the clutch etc, changed the suspension and the bike has completely changed, a superb tourer, comfortable, reliable, almost indestructible if you take care of it, I got it too expensive but who cares, it has 55000km and I did 6000 just this summer. So it heats up a lot in the legs, it's heavy, but it's really been made for the road, a real joy, an engine that purrs, that eats up kilometers, that doesn't flash an electronic warning light every 5 minutes, that costs little, really, to maintain. I'm reluctantly parting with it as I'm going abroad, but it's a real pleasure to drive! Rating : 5/5

in 43 years ( already !! )..of riding..16 motorcycles of all kinds, models..always favoring road bikes..when I could get the A3 license..so I started with BMW 800 GS..excellent..then came other flats..also the first K100 with fuel injection..= too young probably..I came back to the flat..and then my first used KAWASAKI 1000 GTR..what happiness with its sixth gear (which sometimes you forget!!)..and that unique torque..I couldn't keep it..because I was always attracted by other models..and then I came back to my second GTR..1986 model..which I kept for 14 years..I had to change the carburetor manifold which cost me more than the KAWA..and now the garages..are trained in injection..I hope, never 2 without 3 to find another GTR..because there's nothing better for me, for its handling..its torque..its acceleration..a road car worthy of the name and economical..I KIFFE..small detail..in view of the years..its weight prevents me from putting it on center stand..but it took me a long time to understand that I was getting old..cordially. Hello, I've just bought a 2001 KAWASAKI 1000 GTR
First purchase to get back in the saddle with my wife at 57. What a pleasure to find this type of bike at very affordable prices

I'm looking for the technical booklet so I can do a lot of things myself. I can't find the 2001 model, is that normal?
Thanks a lot

1989 motorcycle in perfect working order if I push the handle it responds,
for two-up rides I find it great, just a little heavy at very low speeds at walking pace it has 140,000 km on the odometer fuel consumption at correct speed 6.5 to 7 liters per 100
biker friends, have a good ride and take care of yourselves!

Hi boys. I have an anvil nicknamed Connie from 1992 with nearly 128,000 Km, Ermax high bubble, which runs well, if not for the weight that comes on board during tight maneuvers and "hello" to put on the central!!!! 294 kg, fully loaded and without top case. The fuel consumption is still 8 liters per hundred on average, so 330/350 kilometers, which is not so bad, but for short trips on small roads, it's nada! Bon vent. Rating : 3/5

Hi everyone,
I own a 1000 gtr from 1987, 128,000 kms, not a wrinkle, supple, powerful and robust, it has never failed me, hyper stable in curves (to make some sport bikes pale) super comfortable with a remarkable range, well after the line is aging, but when you squeeze the handle, heads turn on the sound of this good old block inherited from the 900 Ninja. One more thing that's important, excellent for two-up riding, and if you look after it, you won't be changing it anytime soon

I bought this GTR in 2001, and it's a real pleasure to drive, except for the weight
i've crashed twice at standstill and it takes a bit of trickery to get it up on its own...breaking each plate and footrest...

i had to change the original bubble after it was damaged by super 95 which ate it away - impossible to order an original bubble find one on Erwax

once I did 1000 km in a day - a bit tired but great...

it's 43,000 m and runs like clockwork

hi. I've had my kawa for 6 months now and I'm very happy with it. You have to know how to handle it when slowing down because of its weight, its little fault but once on the road it's a pleasure, its big fault is that you can feel the heat from the engine when you're riding in town, when you stop at a traffic light I advise you to keep your pants on, not your shorts ^^. A great bike for two-up riding Rating : 4/5

i own this bike year 2004, I do what it rightfully belongs: escort cyclist, nothing to say that qualities on a net 90/100km / h 420km only blem the maneuver at the stop with my 1.70m but with all other qualities we forget its harmful side at the stop, I made handlebar risers the impec, I had 4 new bmw heaps !!!! and the blem with it, the dough what, a gtr is worth 2BMW anti bmw!! the new one won't be worth the old ones, i think we're getting into the dough side ect... at least with the old one when the rear tire is worn it's all worn, we'll see with the new one, not the same width = price. i'm 58 years old i've had bikes with the best protection=gtr a super vêlo Rating : 5/5

Whether solo or in a duo, this bike loves to go for a ride. Comfortable, powerful and not greedy. Once you've fitted the foam grips, it's bliss. Let's hope that Kawa will come up with a new model with the same quality/price ratio as this good old GTR. Take care and enjoy the ride Rating : 5/5

This is my second GTR in 14 years!!!!
What a pleasure!
To solve the vibration PB on the grips, I put foam grips
I no longer have muffler PBs since I replaced the originals with compatible ones
On the other hand, I have a dead exhaust manifold PB. If anyone can tell me where I can find a used one, I'd love to hear about it, because even compatible ones cost the earth.

A super machine, with 92 and 57,000 km, no worries, a delight in the mountains and on the roads (long journeys). Equally at home solo or in a duo. Apart from the pins and needles in my hands, it's all good fun! For those still in doubt: when she's gone.... It's hard to keep up with her for that long !!!! On the one hand, you don't have the comfort for it, and on the other: how big is your tank? ;-)
One regret: Kawa has stopped producing. Too bad it would have looked good against the R1150 RT, R1200 RT, 1300FJR and 1300PAN. A makeover, a 1300 cm engine and it would have been back on the road for many more years of riding pleasure
Take care and enjoy the ride!

model 94 ( 80.000 klm ) indeed the manifold has leaks with time jutilise de la patte pour pots ça tient relativement longtemps mais se sont des petits trous. je n'ai plus les pots d'origines et j'ai usine les chapeaux de carbuts (il existe un bon cite www.gtrmania )pour ceux qui veulent recuperer un peu de couple a bas regime ou ceux qui veulent les reglages des premiers modèleses non flanges. i've got a high bubble (secdem) for the big gabaris. anyone who's got something to prevent handlebar vibration, i'm all for it. otherwise, a very good, low-maintenance beaker that doesn't do vice hits. for those who like to ride in all weathers, fast and carefree.
