has the time of great adventures come to an end? Where is the world heading if epics are disappearing? Even the Paris-Dakar no longer recognizes itself: it set off from the city of light to fall asleep on the pink lake... Tomorrow, it will cross South America. Even the trails are getting lost, abandoned to excess, sent back into the rut by the law of street-fighters and the power of hypersports. Is adventure just a dream?

not according to KTM, or Yamaha for that matter. While the Japanese manufacturer is still defending the scent of hot sand with its recent XTZ 660 Ténéré, the Austrian brand is further strengthening its position in the conquest of the dunes. Its weapon: the Adventure, revised and improved for 2009. Corrections or improvements? Just enough to make it the queen of adventurers, with the aim of thumbing its nose at the BMW R 1200 GS when it comes to fords, mud and rocks.

new paintwork, fine styling tweaks and a reworked dashboard are all welcome extras. But they are less evocative than the mechanical improvements. New mapping and a new crankshaft have been installed to make the engine more flexible, reduce vibrations and increase available power. The 990 Adventure now offers 106 horsepower (+8 bhp) and a spoonful of extra torque. Maintenance of the LC8 has also been improved. ABS is still on board, and can be disengaged for off-road escapades.

note the disappearance of the S version... which makes way for an R version. Special colors, upgraded suspension and 117 horsepower. Enough to see the horizon ahead sooner than expected.

French Model 2012
I've had this bike for 5 years and I still love it just as much. I do a lot of committed off-roading and if you've got a bit of enduro technique, it's incredible to see where you can go. I regularly come across enduro bikes deep in the woods and the guys hallucinate. You can make some nice jumps over the bumps without it tailgating, but you have to dismantle or attach the center stand, which wants to unfold by itself when you land.

The best thing is that with the same bike, you can also go for a ride with friends on the roads, and thanks to the engine and a very nice chassis, you don't look ridiculous on the main roads. You can also ride on the freeway, as you're very well protected.
The only limitation I find is that at sustained speeds, from 170 180 onwards, it becomes imprecise and tends to wobble at the rear (perhaps due to my tkc80 tires, which are more geared to off-road riding)

it's a motorcycle like no other. It can do it all, but it's not made for large spaces, ... cities, and you have to listen to it. The LC8 is demanding in terms of maintenance compared to the Japanese.
it eats a little oil and likes fuel, but what an engine and what a cycle. I've been dreaming about it since it came out, it's been mine for 2 years, and I've found my bike.

Can anyone tell me if there's a way to lower the saddle on the 990? Since there's no other way to lower it

Hello, it is possible to make a lower saddle at topsellerie.com
You send the saddle by mail after having chosen the model on line; I am low on legs 1m63. There's also a way to lower the shock absorber by changing the two flat fasteners. (I have a suzu bandit 1250.)

It's a versatile, high-performance bike, the only small fault being a few problems with the gear selector, which is set a little too high, resulting in false neutral and a little difficulty in changing gear without the gearbox cracking slightly, even after adjusting the selector, a little advice: exchange the throttle, remove the intake butterflies and replace the mufflers, which originally weighed 18 kg, with Akra mufflers weighing 5 kg, and to finish off, fit a radiator grille for the summer. It tends to heat up, but it's still a fabulous bike. It's my 3rd adventure, after a series of 32 bikes. Rating : 5/5

motorcycle of exception, motorcycle of exception, surely! just like its range. it's thanks to a 500c4 that my wife and I are still alive. Rating : 5/5
