presentation of the 1200 CROSSTOURER 2012

let's face it, it was high time Honda came up with a new machine to reinvest in the trail-GT segment. The Varadero had fallen out of favor, and we're not ashamed to say good-bye to it, as it had a deserving career. But faced with competition that had become exceptionally fierce, led by an empress BMW R 1200 GS, the Soïchiro-based brand needed a machine that was a cut above the rest. And so Honda unleashed a big trail bike capable of holding its own against many, both technically and on the road: the 1200 Crosstourer.

Since its appearance as a concept bike in 2010, the Crosstourer has lightened and energized its lines. A small beak, fairing panels that aren't too big, comfortable but openwork tank side guards and a small engine cowl: the front end is making a statement! The Crosstourer needs to stand out from the crowd. And behind its styling lies a more than generous mechanical package, that of the VFR 1200.
Honda's approach to creating this hybrid between grand touring and rock is similar to the genesis of the Crossrunner: a sport-GT with trail suspensions. It's no coincidence that the bike's first name is VFR 1200 X! Let's take off all the plastic, the tank and the wheels, and discover the imposing frame borrowed directly from the big VFR. A double perimeter beam in heavy-duty aluminum, capable of withstanding more than 170 horsepower. As you'll have gathered, it's the 1237 cm3 V4 that powers this machine. This makes it the only V4-powered trail bike in its segment (the only other 4-cylinder is Kawasaki's Versys 1000, but it's an in-line engine). A highly accomplished powertrain, here adapted to a less sporty riding style. The camshafts have been redesigned to deliver more low- and mid-range torque, as have the valve timing and the shape of the intake and exhaust ducts. Having forsaken power for availability, the Crosstourer nonetheless produces 129 horsepower at a reasonable 7,750 rpm. Not enough to chase a Ducati 1200 Multistrada, but it doesn't care: that's neither its target nor its desire. Its stronghold is touring, with the added comfort of an automatic gearbox. More precisely, with the DCT evolution dual-clutch transmission. More responsive than the first version introduced on the VFR 1200 in 2010, this robotized gearbox allows the rider to operate in full auto mode (2 maps available, Sport or touring) or in sequential mode, with gear shifting controlled by buttons mounted on the left-hand comodo.

Honda 1200 CROSSTOURER 2012

it has been designed to travel far, long and wide. Well, almost everywhere. It may be equipped with spoked wheels and long-travel suspension, but you won't be venturing out into the desert or onto mountain trails with it. Its ground clearance of 180 mm, 55 mm higher than the VFR, allows for a few fleeting detours, but it's a far cry from a KTM Adventure, offering 261 mm (or even 301 mm in its R version).
On the other hand, taking a few side roads, then getting on the freeway and tackling the climb to Alpe d'Huez, that's something he can't get enough of. Thanks to an upright, natural riding position, 3-position adjustable handguards, an equally adjustable bubble, and some fifteen options, the crew can set off from sea to shining sea without a second thought. No worries on the drive side: it's handled by the VFR's single-arm drive shaft. This new generation of Honda's big trailers raises the bar on active safety. The S.U.V comes with combined ABS and traction control as standard. This calms engine power if the 150cc wheel starts to show signs of losing grip.

With its 1200 Crosstourer, Honda offers a worthy descendant of the 1000 Varadero, with more technology, power, technique and ambition. The manufacturer is not content to rest on its laurels, however, and now offers a true 'cross-over' range with the VFR 1200 X, the Crossrunner and the small NC 700 X. Faced with the road, but also with a host of contenders. Up its sleeves are two assets that the competition may envy: its big V4 and robotized transmission.

Hello, I have the 2018 crosstourer and so far I've only ridden it 300 km, I like it a lot especially the power it has, it has 31.ooo.- kms and is like new, I find it a little heavy to ride in urban areas fortunately I also have another royal enfield 650 for this reason is that my Honda I use it more pra get out of town, and I tell you I'm very happy with this acquisition. Bought new in 2016 in full 129hp version in the red and black livery that suits it so well. Today, my CT DCT has 73,000 kms on the clock and no mechanical worries! just consumables and Pirelli Scorpion trail 1 and 2 tires, which suit it very well. I bought the Honda side cases, which are expensive but fit well and look good when removed. For the top case, I opted for the Givi trekker, much larger than the Honda model. A few improvements have been made to enhance comfort: comfort seat, center stand, front mudguard extension, radiator grille, Givi high bubble, heated handle, long ranges, tomtom GPS, rear shock absorber protection, Touratech rigid mudguard extension. Givi cylinder guard and Marcellus panniers. At 50,000, I replaced the rear shock with an EMC, and it's night and day compared with the original. A delight in terms of comfort and roadholding. On the advice of a professional mechanic, I'm waiting for 100,000 kms to check the valve clearance, because according to him, if the mechanics aren't rushed, it doesn't move a muscle. I'm planning to replace the gasket, which is starting to let too many decibels escape from the original muffler. The battery is original! 8 years old, but I put it on Optimate every night. Yes, it's quite heavy when stationary, and it's escaped me twice because of unstable ground when I parked it, but as soon as it's running, it's a delight, and after many trips I can't think of any machine on the market offering me the same advantages (torque, V4, cardan shaft, DCT...) that would encourage me to change. The Crosstourer is a rare and little-known bike, but one for connoisseurs who are 15 years ahead of the competition in terms of technology. I'll review it after its 100,000 kms, but for now it's as good as new! Rating : 5/5

Excellent bike for touring. To date, 30000km without a hitch. However, it's much less comfortable and more fuel-hungry than my faithful Varadero, with which I've covered 95,000 km without any problems. I hope to enjoy this motorcycle for a long time to come, with its very pleasant engine and Dct system. Rating : 4/5

French franck Model 2018
What an engine! smooth, picks up under 1500 rpm even in 6, pushes at all revs and doesn't need to go too high! average fuel consumption of 6 liters, but for such a pleasant ride...
the DCT is almost perfect, except on descents with very tight hairpins, where it tends to apply too much engine braking, up to 1 sometimes, whereas I'd tend to use 2 with the clutch on a conventional gearbox, which can create a slight imbalance. There's a slight clattering sound when changing gears from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3, but I don't mind it any more than that, as my use is very little city riding, and it's capable of holding the 6 at 60 kph.
The bike is heavy when stationary, and requires a certain physique to move it, but becomes a real bike in motion.
It's not a bike for the little ones, who in my opinion will be quickly punished if they lose balance with its considerable height.
The chassis is flawless,
with shock absorption and handling worthy of a sports bike, even in a duo!
Precise, powerful braking with dual brakes.
Comfort is decent, with an upright riding position that's not too far back, and a good compromise between sportiness and comfort. I'm thinking of changing it soon. The protection is sufficient, despite my height of ninety-three, without turbulence at helmet level.
I bought it new and have already ridden 4000 kms on it, and frankly, I think I'll keep it for a long time!

Fabulous motorcycle in every respect The article describes this machine very well However, the DTC gearbox does the engine no favours, often under-revving it when you take up the throttle, so you have to switch to mode S to prevent the engine from knocking! And unless you play with the paddles, which take over the gearbox, don't rely too much on engine braking when approaching a roundabout! In any case, despite these minor shortcomings, I don't regret my choice! Rating : 5/5

Hi everyone, I bought my CT last summer (from 7eme avenue too...). What can I say, the bike is just great when it's running, on the other hand it's a bit heavy when stopped or at very low speed. If you're a bit short on stature, watch out for the fall... As for the DCT, it's a little unsettling at first, as you tend to reach for the clutch. But you soon get the hang of it. I've ridden 4,000 since I got it, and I can't get enough of it. Bravo to Honda, this machine is clearly a success. Rating : 4/5

Hello, I've just bought a used 2016 Crosstourer with DCT gearbox and I'm very happy with it. The only problem is the positioning and the relatively wide handlebars, aupparament I had a BMW 1200 RT where the driving position was ideal! I'm 1.72 m tall and the handlebars make my arms spread and my back ache after about 60 km. The handlebars should be more closed and set back slightly. Do you have this problem? Thank you for your feedback. Bonne route à vous Rating : 4/5

2014 model, 12,000 km per year, DCT model. This little-known bike is simply stunning! A pleasure to ride, once you've used the DCT, there's no turning back. I can't wait for the cruise control, a real must-have nowadays on the road, to be available. Have a heart, Mr. Honda! Handling, acceleration, engine noise from 4,000rpm, what a pleasure! The front suspension is a little firm for my taste, but I need more adjustability for solo driving. Given the limits, I drive almost exclusively in D mode, reserving Manual mode for the mountains, and S mode for the city if I'm titillated by an arsehole! As far as I'm concerned, the clutch lever is a thing of the past. Honda made the right choice and did a good job with its DCT.
I'm thinking of debriding the machine, 360â'¬ from Honda, 50â'¬ more per year from the insurer, plus the new registration, to get "a new moto"... GIVI airflow bubble perfect, at any speed, no wiggle, no more bugs on the teeth!

CT 2016 DCT what else?
French sixtyone Model 2016
I won't go into all the qualities of this machine, which after 4 years on the market has improved. So, I've acquired the 2016 model in full and it's nothing but happiness. I didn't try out the 2015 model in 100hp enough to compare the power, but I can say that the 3 sport programs of the DCT gearbox allow you to find the one that best suits your riding style. For me, it's mode 2 and it's perfect in all circumstances.
If I had to write down the details that bother me about my crosstourer it would be;
- the thumb switch for the headlight, because with the gearbox controls on the left-hand commodo, I had to place it on the code/headlight switch, but I find that it's less quick and intuitive to manipulate than with the index finger on conventional motorcycles.
- a cruise control would take the strain off the right wrist on long trips.
- A longer front mudguard, a radiator grille and a mud flap to protect the rear shock absorber would be welcome at the substantial purchase price, as Mr. Honda is a bit stingy. Heated grips are also extra.
- The seat lacks width for the rider and becomes uncomfortable on long rides, so I quickly replaced it with a wider comfort seat.

- Otherwise, the gearbox is wonderful and smooth, the (expensive) side cases practical and easy to remove/replace without detracting from the aesthetics, and of great capacity. The adjustable bubble is easy to adjust with one hand while riding, and surprisingly protective given its size (I'm 1.90 m tall), so there's no need to replace it with another model.
It's a pity the lighting isn't LED up front like the africa twin and the rest of the 2016 range, which is all LED up front. Still, it's sufficient at night. I think this is a marketing strategy, as there aren't many improvements left to be made to the CT, and the 2017 model will be differentiated by the addition of LED low and high beams.
Cleaning is easy, the most time-consuming part being of course the rims and spokes.
I ride it every day of the year, and despite the miserable weather, I'm happy every morning.

- DCT correction: great, all users complained that the touring mode was too cushy and the sport mode too sporty for touring.

- Adjustable bubble: not necessarily a good idea, as it's certainly inferior to the GIVI AIRFLOW, which we probably won't be able to fit again (same problem with the latest version of the Super Ténéré)

- Phew, no electronic suspension (a good adaptable one will always be better and more reliable)

- still no cruise control: a major shortcoming for heavy riders, especially when compared with the competition.

The bike's overall handling is top-notch. It kicks ass when you turn the throttle, especially after 5500 rpm. The plusses are handling and riding position. I changed the bubble, which now offers great protection on the freeway. Switching from first to second gear sometimes makes a noise. It brakes very well, almost like a GS without the price. Hello. Like Kronos I thought the 1200gs was THE REFERENCE so I bought the 2013 after 14 years on a vstrom 1000. Total disappointment to the point of wanting to stop riding. Laugh. I've been having fun and smiling again with this crosstourer for the past 5 months. The only downside is the weight when stationary, but it's totally insensitive to rolling. A bike to recommend. I let go of a BMW RT that I'd had for 7 years, thinking that I wouldn't find anything better. But I was wrong, because I found something different. Since I bought this Honda Crosstourer with the DCT gearbox, I've had a banana feeling every time I turn the wheel. I find the engine/gearbox/cardan trio perfect. And despite what I may read, I find the drive shaft perfect. And the gearbox, a real treat in all modes, but you have to use it. A standing start in D mode with the handle wide open, what efficiency! You can hear the gears shift like in F1, I love it! The only regret is the dryness of the suspensions, but don't rush out and buy adaptable suspensions, just a good adjustment of preload and damping, and it's much better. So, in conclusion, I love this comfortable, sporty bike with its torquey V4 and great exhaust note, even from the factory. Oh, and if you're a fan of lightweight bikes, don't bother. Rating : 5/5

correction: after q.q.months of research I found the recipe of happiness with this robotized box, in fact it is necessary to find what the automatism gives of good namely the starts 1, 2, 3. and the downshifts when there is need, then to use the right index finger to leave, as soon as the engaged speed corresponds. then with the thumb or the left index finger one goes up and down 1 or 2 speeds, according to the road, slope etc... in the current state of technology, and for a long time to come, it won't be possible for the electronics to adapt to the need to change gear, which our ears perceive as a nasty clacking noise, not harmful to the mechanics, by the way. once you've assimilated this, it's all good fun!if you let the automatic take care of everything, you get what some testers say (moto revue), namely that the cardan shaft doesn't work well with this gearbox. Of course, with a cardan shaft, you need to have the right gear engaged, but it's very easy to find it with this gearbox, which does more than half the job smoothly Rating : 5/5

I had a super tenere 1200, so I opted for the Honda Crosstourer 1200. For my taste, it's the prettiest in the segment. I've just done 20,000 km with it, so here's the result. First of all, the noisy drive shaft below 2,000 rpm after a visit to Honda, nothing to be done. Too bad now, I find myself with a noisy camshaft bearing at 25,000 km, which is not acceptable for a Honda. Rating : 1/5

after several years of love at the handlebars of my varadero, I changed bikes, but still with Honda. I was very satisfied with the torquey, punchy engine, the frame, fortunately stiffer than my varadero, the top braking, the comfort of the duo, the Honda finish! fuel consumption hasn't improved much, averaging around 6L, the original bubble is ridiculous, the weight at standstill requires a few precautions, but the balance is still very positive, the price with classic gearbox is right, and I don't see what it has to envy the GS, whose price with options is aimed at lottery winners. In short, I've signed on for a few more years. Rating : 4/5

I tried it with the DCT but it didn't convince me. I'm old-school and can't imagine riding a motorcycle without a mechanical gearbox. Some people will tell me that you have to move with the times, so let them get a scooter. I also agree with Mikael that the designers should have adopted part of the look of the Africa Twin, they would have made a hit, too bad :( That front beak serves no purpose other than to remind us of the GS, but why Honda ? It's true that this CT is by no means an enduro machine. But it has all the qualities of a GT with its comfort, performance and roominess, of a sports bike with its Memphis torque, and of a city car with its maneuverability.
I've had it for 2 months now, and frankly, it's made me forget the 1100GS and then the R1150RT I'd had previously.
That said, the dashboard is as complete as it is hideous, the duckbill is useless (not even for channelling cooling air), and the rear end is punishing when it rains.
But with the DCT option, you're introduced to a new way of riding, one that's very faithful to the rider's will and, I'd say, quite relaxing, especially in town.
So a good touring horse, not too expensive to maintain (except perhaps for the tire budget?), lively, safe and reliable.
As far as I'm concerned, Honda has hit the target 5/5. Bravo Honda!

I ride a CBF 1000 and tried out this Crosstourer yesterday.
It won't be my next bike.
Protection (legs, torso, hands) is woefully inadequate.
I don't like the speedometer unit.
The optional center stand on a 14,000-euro bike is a bit of a pity....
But its biggest drawback is its weight and high center of gravity. I'm 1.78m tall and didn't feel comfortable on it. A one-hour test ride was scheduled, and the bike was returned after 35 minutes.
Otherwise, the engine is top-notch, the drive shaft is totally forgettable and the finish is very neat.
But definitely not the bike for me.

Hello everyone

I'm surprised by Philippe Monneret's reactions to the crosstourer test ride. I tried it yesterday < with the manual gearbox >, bike being tested< at speed-motorcycles > in Champigny 94 <thanks Pascal>. it seemed to me very satisfactory it is necessary that I say to you that I have only very few reference motor bike I have an africa of 93 which I have just finished renovating, the crosstourer and much heavier, than my africa but it and lighter to handle!the engine cuts out no trouble parking it, and on the freeway with a passenger it's a little tricky! The engine responds to the slightest touch of the throttle, and frankly, this bike is a real winner.
I'd add that in this style of bike, it's made for long trips, but is just as maneuverable in town. In any case, what a comfortable ride, and for the passenger, a real pleasure to ride.
Ps for Philipe Monneret: you can't hear a thing, and that's good!

This bike is amazing, especially with its 130hp (in Belgium, engines are not limited). It moves and handles as well as a GS, if not better, and without the vibrations please (because a twin boxer still vibrates)
On the other hand, a huge disappointment, my health forces me to sell it (major back problem sciatica plantar fasciitis), it has 4320 km (it was 4320 km of intense pleasure), it is guaranteed until JUNE 2015.

I've owned this bike for two weeks, so like any new owner, I'm not necessarily objective.
I'm a newcomer to Honda, tired of the snobbish, pretentious atmosphere of a famous German brand dealership in Bordeaux.
Coming back to this bike, I find few faults with it, and I don't regret having let the salesman convince me of the auto gearbox option
In fact, it's been the subject of a lot of questions from biker friends I've met on the road
The weight is quickly forgotten from the first turns of the wheel, it's easy to handle in town, on small roads it's a delight, and on freeways it's king
I wouldn't take it out on the open road, given its weight and price

i was really counting on this bike to replace my africa twin, but it won't happen.
although very beautiful, this machine has a ridiculous car, today a trail is 500 KM at least, not high enough, no shoe to protect the lower engine, a radiator too exposed and unprotected and an exhaust too low that will fill with water as soon as you pass in a puddle.
mechanically, there's nothing to complain about, as is the cockpit, although I'd have liked a wider fairing for greater rider protection, especially around the knees.
it's a shame honda makes a city trail
