presentation of the 250 SX 2016
With enough power to excel on all types of track and terrain, and its ultra-light chassis, the 250 SX has one of the best power-to-weight ratios in motocross. The unrivalled power of the ultra-light two-stroke engine makes it a serious competitor to the most complex four-stroke engines. For 2016, the 250 SX features numerous improvements, new colors and graphics, but retains the chassis and engine specifications of the 2015 model year.
frame
the 250 SX's modern frame, featuring profiled chromium-molybdenum steel tubing, combines maximum longitudinal stiffness with optimum torsional stiffness.
linkage/shock absorber
the 250 SX's linkage system features a high initial rate progression curve for optimum stability. The top-of-the-range WP 5018 shock absorber guarantees exceptional responsiveness and damping characteristics. Compression and rebound damping can of course be adapted to suit track conditions and rider preferences.
fork tees
for 2016, the upper fork tee features a new rubber damping system for the handlebar clamp to reduce the level of handlebar vibration. The fork tees retain front-to-rear adjustability according to rider preference.
fork
the WP suspension's adjustable inverted fork with closed cartridge has a diameter of 48 mm and offers excellent damping characteristics. Compression and rebound damping are adjustable.
wheels
the 250 SX features ultra-light CNC-machined hubs, top-of-the-range Excel rims, new lightened spokes and aluminum spoke-heads for maximum stability and minimum weight. Dunlop's new MX tires (Geomax MX 32) have been developed with the KTM racing team in the USA on the basis of factory tests and the racing experience of seasoned riders. They guarantee perfect traction and exceptional performance.
brakes
high-tech Brembo brakes have always been standard equipment on KTM off-road bikes. They are combined with redesigned, lighter and more heat-resistant wave-type discs manufactured by GALFER. The ultimate solution in braking technology. 63g lighter at the front, 32g lighter at the rear.
engine
the KTM 250 SX engine combines unbeatable power-to-weight ratio, exceptional performance and great handling.
cylinder
the cylinder of the 250 SX is equipped with a sophisticated TVC (Twin Valve Control) exhaust valve.the valve can be changed quickly using two springs (supplied), allowing power to be adjusted to suit the circuit and the rider's preferences.
carburetor
the 250 SX is equipped with the tried-and-tested Keihin PWK 38S AG carburetor, which produces a perfect air-fuel mixture over the entire operating range under ordinary conditions. at extreme temperatures or altitudes, the setting can be adjusted using the nozzles and needles supplied, following the manual's list of settings.
clutch
the KTM DDS (Damped Diaphragm Steel) clutch is equipped with a diaphragm spring allowing the use of an internal rubber damping system. Together with the ultra-light bell and Brembo hydraulics, the DDS clutch offers maximum reliability, excellent modulation and reduced lever force.
air box
the new airbox design offers optimum protection of the air filter against clogging and maximum airflow, enabling maximum performance. Quick replacement of the dual air filter - without tools and in seconds - has long been a KTM standard.
handlebars
the 250 SX features a new NEKEN tapered handlebar in high-strength aluminum, mounted on a new clamp with shock-absorbing gasket and offering two handlebar mounting positions. A large anti-shock pad mounted on the handlebar protects the rider in the event of an accident.
saddle
perfectly ergonomic, the new saddle features a tough foam plastic core for comfort and durability.
graphics
a new graphic design with clear lines underlines the high standards demanded of a state-of-the-art off-road motorcycle.
bodywork
kTM engineers have gone to great lengths to design an ergonomic, functional package that perfectly harmonizes bike and rider, right down to the smallest detail. The front mudguard is a perfect example of how molded plastic components achieve maximum stability through well-designed structure and fastening.
