affectionately nicknamed "Calif", the California is an essential piece of Moto-Guzzi history. The equivalent of theElectra Glide with that typically Italian charm. Designed to cruise to the thumping beat of its 2 huge bowls, the bike makes itself desirable by its own rules. First, there's the engine: a V2 bursting at the seams, alive and kicking. The effort of its innards betrays its age, but its behavior leaves no one unmoved. Riding is an art, and the big piston strokes sprinkle it with joviality. Comfort is present and the bike brakes well. The finish is good, although it's worth keeping an eye on certain components. The only major complaint is the gearbox, which is hopelessly slow. The Calif can go fast, but it doesn't like to. Its trick is to take you to the ends of the earth at a leisurely pace that will thrill you as much as it does. If you're curious, don't bother - the California, like many Guzzi models, is aimed at connoisseurs and enthusiasts. Its bewitching engine will quickly turn you into one of them.
