presentation of the Brutale 1090 R 2014
now that the Brutale range begins with the 675 and is confirmed with the 800, the 1090 asserts itself as the bull of the range. The target: the bloodthirsty; the tool: the big 4-legged 1078 cm3; the cavalry: 144 horses that gallop without mercy. Here's a muscular road companion, sticking to the 1090 RR's heels for a whole bunch of euros less. Wow! What's the catch!?! There isn't one. But if you look closely and pay attention to the name, you'll quickly see why the price is competitive with the competition. What's one R more or less on a 1090 Brutale?
To differentiate it from the RR, we've taken it easy on the paint and varnish coats, the radial brake calipers are no longer monobloc, the discs and pistons are smaller, and the anti-dribble clutch has disappeared. The suspension, meanwhile, has fewer adjustment options. The engine boasts 14 fewer horsepower but 1.2 mkg more torque.
On the other hand, its standard 1090 sibling is tempting, so why spend an extra 1,000 euros on this R? To get a nicer metallic paint job instead of a matte one, turn signals integrated into the mirrors, a red cylinder head cover and LED rear indicators.
2013 brings a weight reduction of 1,500 grams thanks to new rims, the adoption of daytime running lights with LED daytime running lights on either side of the dashboard, revised exhaust silencers, a grey engine finish and a new front mudguard.
less noble than the RR, but the heart of the steak retains all its flavor, especially as the sauce is as spicy as ever. The engine's purple cap is unmistakable: it's fire in there. 144 barrels of MV-style power will calm you down and stretch your spine. Just to make sure you don't hit the road just yet, the 1090 R retains 8-stage traction control.
Apart from the suspension settings, the chassis remains identical to the RR, with a trellis frame mounted on aluminum plates, a 50 mm Marzocchi inverted fork, a Sachs monoshock and the superb, eternal swingarm.
ABS is now standard on the Brutale. But how do you get such a racy machine to accept such a safeguard? By fitting a Bosch 9MP. An anti-lock braking system that's light, disconnectable and sporty. The choice is yours: Normal for road use, Race for racetrack use, or deactivated if you're feeling confident.
