presentation of the Superveloce 800 Testalarga 2022
While the Superveloce is undoubtedly one of today's most beautiful sports cars, it is also one of MV-Agusta's most prolific special series. The beauty is entering its 3rd season on the market, with 6 variations already in the CV: Oro - S - 75th Anniversary - Alpine - Ago - and this time Testalarga.
We're not going to praise the plasticity of this MV just yet. But while we're on the subject of plastic, let's drool a little over the fact that most of the parts made of this material have been replaced by carbon. The fairing, hoof, mudguards and wheel arch are all in black.
At second glance, the Testalarga copies the Ago model's design. Just a little tweaked for a more aggressive look. The spoked rims and frame are covered in a tint somewhere between gold and bronze. A few holes appear on the bow, officially to improve exhaust cooling. The bubble cap typical of Superveloce is back, although the Ago didn't want it. In the end, the line loses a little in purity but gains in dynamism.
Underneath, on the other hand, we're in the same league as the 800 S.
MV never misses an opportunity to recall the numbers attached to its legend. Whether it's the 37 to honor the manufacturer's world championship titles, or the 1 in reference to King Agostini. This time, it's a 3. Perhaps in reference to the number of cylinders in its engine... or rather to complete the memory linked to its patronymic: "Testa Larga" was the nickname given to the Grand Prix bike of the 70s, also a 3-cylinder. The sobriquet derives from the oversized cylinder heads. This Superveloce is intended to remind us of the 1973 model, a veritable victory machine.
An important year for the MV-Agusta group. It was then that the group split into two independent entities: helicopters on one side, bikes on the other.
Let's think of a few refinements for this special and, above all, VERY limited model. Only one model is on the program - and we don't even know if it will be sold or just built for demonstration purposes. A plaque on the fork crown attests to its exclusivity. The Testalarga gets a double-glazed clutch cover, the famous leather belt in the middle of the tank, vintage Arrow pots, a perforated red leather saddle, a quick-release fuel cap and a seat backrest.
Don 't expect any technical evolution. Like the others, the Superveloce Testalarga is built on an F3 800 chassis and engine. With 147 horsepower on tap, electronic assistants galore, a Marzocchi inverted fork adjustable from all sides, a Sachs shock absorber also fully adjustable, Brembo M4 brakes and 9 seconds to reach 200 km/h, you're in for a great session of sport and trajectory. All that's left is to figure out how to take possession of it.
