We're in for a treat in September, with no less than four grand prix on the program, starting this weekend with the round in Aragon (Spain). But it's not all about performance and the track... Let's take a look behind the scenes.
Thailand to break the routine
If it is the 18th meeting this season, the Thailand Grand Prix will set the ball rolling for the next two MotoGP seasons. The Chang International Circuit in Buriram, which has been part of the calendar since 2018, will now be the scene of the first race of the year. An innovation, among others...
Brno Circuit needs to rebuild its reputation
The Masaryk circuit in Brno, Czech Republic, will make its return to the MotoGP calendar in 2025, after an absence of four years. The circuit, located some 200 kilometers southeast of Prague, has hosted some 50 Grands Prix since 1965, giving it a legendary status. Initially, the track measured almost 14 kilometers, but was reduced to 5.4 kilometers in 1987.
Brno, a track we'll be rediscovering next season in MotoGP.
The traditional Brno event, which disappeared from the calendar in 2020, is now scheduled to run continuously until 2029. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala expressed his satisfaction at the return of the iconic race, underlining the importance of the event for the country: “Motorcycle racing has been a tradition on the Masaryk circuit in Brno since the 1950s. MotoGP is a prestigious global event that will bring tens of thousands of visitors to the Czech Republic.”
To concur, Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of promoter Dorna, was quick to point out that the Brno Grand-Prix was one of the most spectator-attractive events on the calendar.
MotoGP 2025 rider grid:
Finally, the MotoGP 2025 season will see a new Spanish rider in the elite ranks, the ninth in the person of Fermin Aldeguer (main photo). He will be making his debut with the Gresini team, and more specifically with the same technical staff that currently works with Marc Márquez. A promising start for the 19-year-old.
Fermin Aldeguer, new Gresini driver for 2025
I am very happy to join the Gresini family. It's an incredible opportunity to make my MotoGP debut with the best bike on the grid and with a fantastic team that has seen many famous riders pass through its ranks. I hope to get to grips with the GP24 very quickly. We'll have to take it step by step, but I'm looking forward to the first Test of the season in Valencia.
Aldeguer will be one of three rookies this season, alongside Japan's Ai Ogura, who will race for Trackhouse, and the newly announced Somkiat Chantra for LCR Honda. Chantra replaces Nakagami and will support Johann Zarco. Two vacancies remain (currently 20 out of 22 confirmed riders) for the MotoGP 2025 grid to be finalized. We still don't know who Pramac, under Yamaha control in 2025, will rely on to structure its workforce.
At the same time, Sergio García, leader of the Moto2 championship ahead of Ai Ogura, revealed that he had received offers from Pramac Yamaha and Trackhouse Aprilia, but none of these had materialized. Without elaborating on the subject, he asserted that these decisions were beyond his control, as well as that of the teams concerned. Good things come to those who wait...
