presentation of the 1200 V4 RR 2019

When was the last big British sports car? 10 years ago? What about the Triumph 675 Daytona? No, I was talking about a big sports car. Then you have to go back to the 955 Daytona, in 2006. And since then...
Since then, the arms race has become fierce, and only Superbike efficiency has prevailed. But the time has come again for exceptional machines, those with exacerbated sportiness that make a mockery of WSBK regulations. For pleasure, for luxury, for prestige. And in the UK, this now has a name: Norton's V4.

don't think GSX-R, CBR, R1 or ZX-10R. Still less the Panigale or RSV4. Forget the track. Immerse your mind in the Tourist Trophy, seize the moment when the British pull first, and let the Norton 1200 V4 RR captivate you. A superb machine with a distinctive personality and fleeting eyes. From motorcycle to prestige. Because that's all this British machine aspires to. With this machine, you're treated to performance, quality in both materials and craftsmanship, and then you conclude on a prestigious note.
This sports car was first offered in a very sporty, top-of-the-range SS version, with a dry weight of 179 kilos, a price tag in excess of 50,000 euros and a total of 200 units. Here, Norton presents the second batch. At 37,000 euros (approx.), the V4 1200 RR is almost affordable, except that the weight climbs to 199 kilos.

rest assured, the machine won't suffer much. Norton has accumulated a great deal of experience in transposing high efficiency to its sports bikes. Why do you think the brand has been so committed to the TT lately? This V4 is the result. And its name immediately identifies its engine. And it's very different from the block used in the race. Rewind.
At the Tourist Trophy, the Norton prototype was powered by the 1000 cc Aprilia RSV4. Things are different here. It's still a V4, but made in England, designed in partnership with engine manufacturer Ricardo. At 72°, it's more open than the Aprilia's 65° engine. Bigger too, with a displacement of 1200cc, this distiller boasts a very serious 200 hp at 12,500 rpm. Big watts, but nothing exceptional given the engine's displacement and architecture. With the exception of the CBR 1000 RR, all 1000 four-cylinder hypersports bikes also produce 200 hp, with 17% less displacement than the Donington block. On the other hand, the British cudgel is richer in torque, with a maximum of over 13 mkg. If required, a racing kit allows you to add 10 hp and drop 8 kilos. Technically, the titanium intake valves and variable-length intake system are particularly noteworthy.

But it's not just the striking plastic and powerful in-house engine that will stir the emotions. The Norton 1200 V4 is equipped with a high-flying chassis. The frame is a latticework of aluminum tubes, assembled and polished by hand. No less than 26 hours are required to give it its sparkling appearance. Its slender appearance doesn't detract from its strength, as it uses the V4 as a stiffening element. Derived from a competition bike, this lady offers multiple adjustments, such as the column angle (23.9° factory setting) or the swingarm pivot point.
Aluminum and carbon fiber for the Norton. The entire bodywork is created in this material.

the 18-liter fuel tank is also made of carbon, reinforced with Kevlar and chemically treated to avoid any problems with fuel. The V4 1200 RR is fitted with lightweight OZ forged aluminum wheels; as an option, you can request carbon wheels, like those fitted as standard on the SS. The difference between the pairs: 1.7 kg.
An exceptional machine has to ensure that its ground connections are as efficient as possible. Here, as so often, the manufacturer Öhlins is called upon. For this British machine, the choice is a fine one: a 43 mm diameter NIX 30 inverted fork and a TTX GP shock absorber; fully adjustable, of course. Sweden also supplies the steering damper.
As for the brakes, they're still formidable. 330 mm discs are gripped by Brembo M50 4-piston radial calipers. There's a 245 mm disc at the rear. To complete the system, both the discs and the master cylinders come from the aforementioned Italian equipment manufacturer.

norton makes us fantasize with its 961 Commando, a retro range whose name conjures up great grips, and which smells of a machine that can be ridden manfully, without artifice or sweetener. For the 1200 V4, it's a different story. It's all about technology, with the full panoply of modern electronic assistance. Norton doesn't leave its 200 hp unattended. On board, you'll be taken care of by a keyless ignition system, a large 7-inch screen as a dashboard with 3 display modes, traction control, anti-wheelingtraction control, anti-wheeling, a 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit to optimize the sensory work of the electronics, cruise control, a shifter and a standing start assistant. The whole package!
And a little special feature: have you noticed that the Norton V4 1200 RR has no mirrors? They've been replaced by a reversing camera.

after selling 200 units of the SS in a short space of time, Norton went on to produce 250 units of the RR version of its 1200 V4. Bewitching and sultry, the British model joins the clan of highly refined, beautiful motorcycles, closer to the exceptional than to the passionate. It's a time for dreams(Midual Type 1, Ducati Panigale V4 R, Kawasaki H2R, Ariel ACE R, Brough Superior SS 100, Lotus C-01, Massimo Tamburini T12, etc.) and the Norton wants a piece of them.
