presentation of the DL 650 V-STROM Xpedition 2010
trail riding seems to be making a comeback. But these are no longer the days when simple, playful monos reigned supreme - today, it's the adventurer that's in the spotlight. Witness the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, Yamaha Super Ténéré, Guzzi Stelvio NTX and other KTMs. Suzuki, only present in the niche with its V-Strom 650, is attempting a foray with this more adventurous model: the V-Strom Xpedition.
aprilia had already explored this solution with its Pegaso Tibet, but Suzuki adopts a more road-going pretension while still having the scent of adventure. First, there's the engine, the excellent, lively and sparkling little V-twin that has never disappointed. Then there's the equipment, which makes you want to take off in your Indiana Jones hat. A set of Touratech-style aluminum hard cases can carry 82 liters of cargo. Mixed-profile tires allow you to go off-road (but not too much either, with 17-inch wheels and 150 mm of suspension travel...) and the lower engine is protected by an aluminum shoe connected to a tubular structure attached to the frame. All the protection you need. For the rider, there are handguards; for safety, ABS is standard; and for quiet mechanics, Suz adds a central stand. All as standard.
of course, you'll have to shell out a few extra bucks to get it out of the dealership, plus shipping costs to get it through the round, plus homologation in France, plus... Ah, flute! I forgot to tell you again that this is a Suzuki England model. But who knows, given the craze for this type of machine in recent times, maybe this Xpedition will be able to reach further afield than the British.
